Horse hair jewelry?

I know there have been other threads on this, but I’m looking for recommendations from folks who have actually gotten horse hair jewelry made.

I am quickly approaching the time when I believe I will be putting my first horse down. I’ll take basically all of his tail, but he’s got cool highlights that I’d like to have in whatever I get made, so I don’t want to waste them on jewelry that won’t last.

So what have folks on here gotten? What companies/people would you recommend? Ideally I’d like something with horse hair and silver, thinking a bracelet, even if it’s just a braid with caps on the ends and a clasp to hold it on my wrist, possibly a key chain, maybe both? But I’m open to anything, and honestly don’t mind spending $$$ to get something I love, as this is my baby.

Look at the menu with all that can be made out of horse hair:

In my opinion, Kleio is the BEST resource for horsehair jewelry. Alice Sinkner at Kleio (http://www.kleiojewelry.com/) is a delight to work with, and her work is just phenomenal. The braiding is very intricate, and she uses high quality materials. She can customize your jewelry any way you want, and she will post your piece on her website as she’s working on it so you can see how the hair looks with the beads that you’ve chosen. She is located in Canada, but there were no complications in getting the bracelet shipped back and forth or with payment. I’m sorry that you’re facing some sad times ahead; but for me, it’s a comfort to have a part of my horse with me all the time.

I have a very simple round braid bracelet with a sterling clasp from SECequine on Etsy. She was very easy to work with, and it was pretty cheap. I wanted something I could wear almost daily, with my leather nameplate cuff bracelet.

While I don’t own any (yet), I have friends with Lou Petty’s work. REALLY nice. http://loupetty.com/

Pony locks made a beautiful bracelet for my DD.

from another thread…not jewellery, but pots. http://www.horsehairmemorypots.com/

High Hopes Designs. I had a beautiful bracelet made; it’s a square braid with a square sterling silver tube and clasps. I hadn’t seen the square braids anywhere else. She has lots of design choices.
Just went back to her site. In addition to bracelets, she has key chains, necklaces, watch bands, browband inserts and rings. I loved the rings!.

A friend had 2 bracelets and a key chain made for me from a woman here locally and I was really impressed. They were only about $12 a piece. I have the rest of my boy’s tail and am toying with getting one more REALLY REALLY nice one since prices all over the place. However, I was surprisingly shocked at the quality of work this woman did and just love them. She doesn’t have a website, but I could send her email address to you. I may have one made for my mom for Christmas with the tail of both her horses.

I second Pony Locks!

I’ve seen this one advertised in various places, and their stuff looks amazing.

I wold totally get something if I wasn’t already maxed out on what I wear.

I have two bracelets from PonyLocks, and was friends/coworkers with Penny, the owner, before she started the business. I’ve also bought numerous gifts for other people from her. I have NEVER been disappointed - my “once in a lifetime” horse also had lots of highlights in his tail, and she captured them perfectly without being asked, in a bracelet that has held up for years since his death. For another pony, she held onto the tail hair for us for over a year until we were both ready to have bracelets made. She does a fabulous job, has lots of options, and I can promise that they hold up very well (and I do not take good care of my jewelry).

I have a bracelet made by this lady and will soon be sending her some more hair for another bracelet. She is a very nice lady and does very good work.

We have had great success using Pony Locks before and Penny was great to work with.

We recently got this bracelet and love it for it’s timeless elegance:

Pam is nearby and was also super great to work with. It would be hard to go wrong with either of these ladies.

I have several pieces from COTH’s own SpacyTracy and they are all gorgeous. The latest piece is tail hair in a resin piece in my heart horse’s “colors” on a leather bracelet, so it’s very durable and I’ve been wearing it daily.
