Horse Pre-Race ? Pentosan?

One of my clients wants to order Pentosan from Horse Pre-Race. Anyone have anything to share? I thought a while back (several years maybe) that they were shut down? Anyone gotten Pentosan from there?

I purchase Pentosan from HorsePreRace. The company information is very sketchy, but the Pentosan I’ve received has done the job well, with no side effects. I know of several others who are purchasing theirs from HorsePreRace as well, with positive results.

Just ordered some two weeks ago. Shipping $ to Canada is outrageous, but the price of the pentosan can’t be beat, so I deal with it.

The FDA got after them last October, but nothing seems to have come of it.

They were never shut down as far as I know. I’ve been buying Pentosan from them for a few years without problem, and I believe there are others on COTH doing the same. If you search, you might find previous threads about it. Works for me!

Just ordered some today. They are having 10% off.

I’ve had many friends order Pentosan from prehorserace. Have never heard of a problem. I ordered some myself a couple months ago. Working fine.

I’ve also ordered from them and horsemedsonline and not ever had an issue and love the results from the Pentosan. Their shipping is fast, their prices are great and every time I’ve had a question I’ve always gotten a fast response.

Tell me more about pentosan. How is it given, when is it given, how often?

Awesome price and cheaper than horsemedsonline right now.

My vet actually prefers it over Adequan for his Belgians that he uses in pulling competitions. It’s got a loading dose series given IM one 6ml dose per week for 4 weeks, then as needed there after(I do every 2 weeks for my Boy). I do the Pentosan Gold for the added glucosamine.

I also use the HPR pentosan and have had no issues. It seemed just as effective as the compounded stuff I was getting from Wedgewood but without the lumps and discolorations that I experienced while using the Wedgewood stuff.

Race Horse Meds also has pentosan with no rx required- probably similar to horse pre race:

You can buy it from heartland veterninary with an rx:

Or compounded from Wedgewood or other compounding pharmacy with rx.

Race Horse Meds is the same company.

I buy pentosan from HPR all the time, no issues. Although my last order of one vial of pentosan and one tube of omeprazole, they sent me no pentosan and 40 tubes of omep. Whoops! They sent me the pentosan immediately and told me to keep the tubes.

So 39 free tubes of omeprazole? Wow!

I did have one problem with the HPR pentosan where the top came off the vial when I drew some out (the rubber cap came out with the needle), so I lost the remainder in the bottle. I contacted HPR and they sent me some extra the next time to make up for what I lost. I thought that was pretty good of them.

Right? I sent them a photo of the box with all the tubes worrying they might tell me I had to reorder the pentosan but nope. I was more than happy to send them back just to get the right order but they fixed it immediately and told me not to bother returning them.

That will last me a year LOL!

Why two names and websites for same company? That’s just dumb and sneaky and reminds me of Dover having different prices and item numbers for the same thing…

My company had 7 websites for the same company/store (I put a stop to that right away lol). It was an SEO thing, and judging by the way HPR lists products on their site using keywords, I suspect they have a crappy SEO or marketing person trying to game Google to get found in searches.

I just ordered three bottles of Pentosan Gold. Here’s hoping I get 120 tubes of omeprazole by mistake!

WOW! Pentosan with no RX needed - and for less then I have been paying. Thanks!

As for the question Tell me more about pentosan. How is it given, when is it given, how often? , I give l 6 ml IM injection, twice monthly. My mare has a few small arthritic spurs in her hocks and this keeps her going really well. I can tell if I’m a few days late, she gets stiff and a bit sucked back in her warm up. As long as we stay up on the Pentosan, she goes beautifully (currently schooling 2nd/3rd level, working 4 to 5 days/week).

I haven’t tried Adequan on her - since Pentosan works so well. My older horse got the full gamut of “what works best” - Legend, Adequan, Polyglycan, and Pentosan, and he went WAY better on Pentosan and competed through FEI (with a late dressage start to his life, so he was in his teens by the time he was FEI). Oral supplements did nothing. I swear by the stuff! He was never lame, just got a bit stiff in the hocks and through his back when he didn’t have his PentAussie.

I think of it as a joint lubricant, something to just make everything run a little smoother and happier.

Curious about the dis-coloration with pentosan…My Grey horse gets "stains"on his neck so I changed injection site to hind end.

I use the pentosan from HPR, and have nothing buy good things to say. My horse is moving better than ever. We moved up a level (to fourth) in dressage this year, and I really think it’s because he was more comfortable in his hind end. I’ve tried the regular, gold, and platinum and have decided gold is my favorite. I don’t know that the platinum works as well as the others, but I have had good results with the regular and platinum.

I give a shot every 3 weeks as that seems to work best for my guy. You will begin to feel how long you can go between injections.
