Wow! Thanks for posting cswoodlandfairy. That is a beautiful trailer! And it gives me hope that I’ll find one I can pull with an old Suburban (when I find one).

I’ve had 2 Bisons.
While I didn’t love my 2001 3 horse slant for various reasons, I do LOVE my tiny 1996 2 horse. It’s a great little steel trailer. About 3,500#, 7ft tall, tiny area for tack. It’s not fancy, but it’s spacious inside for such a small trailer.
I also have had two Bisons and am very happy with them. The first was a 1993 Thourghbred And my current one is the 2003 Trail Horse. I bought the 1993 new and used it for 20 years—loved that trailer! Sold it for almost what I paid for it when it was new. I did buy the 2003 used but it had hardly seen the road. Was mostly stored in a heated building so it was in like new condition. I really like it too!

No direct experience with the trailer, but a friend of mine has a formerly-difficult-to-load mare and I see them in their Equi-Breeze at trail rides and things all the time. My friend loves it, and she’s had it for a couple of years now. Still looks great.
I have had direct experience with Tom Scheve, who is one of the nicest most helpful people I’ve ever had the pleasure of dealing with. He answered all my questions and I really wish I could have ordered an Equi-Breeze from him. It was just a little out of my price range. But if money had not been a concern, I’d have had one!
Thanks pAin’t_Misbehavin’! Great to know that someone has dealt with Tom Scheve and had a really good experience. I’ve been looking at the used market for a year now and can’t find what I want/need, hence why I’m looking at new. I blame that on the 17.2hh monster I have.
I am looking at a 2001 3H Bison slant now. Good to know. Maybe I’ll get the Trail-Et instead.
I have a second hand Trail-et. Love it. Worst brand name ever, though.
I just sold my 2000 2+1 and let me tell you, there is almost nothing on the current market that is the same quality! Shetron is the new Collin -Arndt company. Same people, different name. Made in NC. All custom and not cheap. As in, significanlty more than the 4 star I ended up ordering. Had them been closer to me though, I would have gone with them as my 18 year old trailer looked amazing.
I’m bumping this thread because I’m looking again. Two or three horse with SHORT LQ. Must be 7’6 at least, because I have a tall, stout ISH. I have had two incredible Four Stars, but they were giant, and I sold them (and they kept their value–sold them for as much as I paid). I’m trying to downsize…and it’s hard to find a smaller one in my price range. I want something that I can haul 4-5 hours to events, schooling, etc. about once a month. This thread has been helpful, and I’m leaning towards Merhow, but there are NONE close by that I can look at–I’d have to buy them w/o seeing them, or fly/drive to see them.
Does anyone know anything about this brand? Harmar Dixie Star. I understand Harmer makes several versions (Dixie Star, Trail Rider, and Road Rider. I’ve never heard of them, but there are couple nice ones that I might consider–just wondering if anyone had any insight.
Thanks!
Everything I have heard about Harmar has been a do not buy. They certainly aren’t in the same league as Merhow. You might also want to consider Adam, Trailers USA, and Shadow for a custom layout.
Thanks! I also just found a used Sundowner straight load which is intriguing. I’ve never had a straight load, but I know a lot of people swear by them for big horses.
I have a 2010 Eclipse, 2 horse, straight load. At the time I was looking it was nearly impossible to find an 8 foot high trailer, without paying thousands to make them taller. Trailer companies were not offering an 8 foot option. Eclipse offered the 8 food tall as standard. It was also nice to “design your own trailer” and get exactly what you wanted.
I love my trailer, as does my horse. It’s open, airy, lots of windows and doors on both sides. I’ve hauled extensively in it now for 8 years and had no issues. I don’t care for the hitch connection it has as well as the older style where the connector sits down on the ball and the two sides clamp over the sides. It’s harder to tell on the Eclipse hitch if it’s actually locked in, or just sitting on top of the ball. While sold as “safer” I still like the older style hitch.
I heard Eclipse trailers went into hard financial times several years after I purchased my trailer, and I heard that the quality declined. I think that’s where the complaints started. The company was purchased by another individual and they have restored and improved the quality - can’t remember what the new brand is but the outside of the trailer looks almost identical to the old Eclipse. However, the 8 foot tall option is now “extra”. But other brands have also added the 8 foot option with additional costs.
I love the Hawk’s, and when/if I replace my Eclipse with another trailer, it will be a Hawk. I love the trailer quality, and options, and many of my friends have Hawk’s and give the trailers fabulous reviews.
Eclipse is now River Valley under different ownership.
As for Hawk, I looked at many while I was shopping, and could not get past the amount of rust everywhere since they use steel both inside and on the frame.
Bumping to ask: looking at a 2020 Head to Head. Opinions? Ive never owned a Kieffer, and haven’t heard good or bad about them.
Have heard good and no bad about Keiffer, not specific to that year or model just in general.
