That color is beautiful. I could never pull off something like that on my coppery chestnut, but think it would be smashing on a seal brown or bay.
I like @soloudinhere 's attitude about color!

I have the Berry one. I bought it for my bay. He willl look smashing. I can’t see it on my new palomino… @soloudinhere are yours super yellow? Post pics! I want to love it but also have a black coat I expect I will wear on her.
I have a palomino who is varying shades between almost white and super yellow - and a buckskin who is kind of a medium buckskin color.
gasp
I looooove the berry and burgundy! Oh, oh, so nice! I say, do it! You are making me rethink my future clothing choices…
The color is pretty. Oddly enough, the thing that bothers me about the coat are the zip pockets with the little metal tabs showing. :ambivalence:
Po-tay-toe, Po-tah-toe - Burgundy, Merlot, Primitivo(?) or Pomegranate - I think the color looks great on bays.
DH’s Strawberry Waaaay-Roaned-out also wore it well.
I don’t wear black show coats so no funeral look over here. I like deep greens and darker navy. I mainly do hunters so those coats get used in the few dressage competitions I do as well. Maybe one day I’ll branch out and do a subtle piping… that to me is going out of my box lol.
I think it depends on how dark it is. If it’s darkish, I would totally go for it. If it’s too bright it will look a bit overly dramatic! Also, maybe minimize the related bling if you are going to go with such a dramatic color.
That’s definitely where I am leaning. It will need to be deep color - like @Silverbridge 's fabulous Dillards find. And I will do black tack, plain black boots, plain black helmet, plain white pad and a very subtle silver beaded browband if I go with this. I am really not a bling person, but I do like colors.
I have the berry one too. I wore it at my first recognized horse trial, because of a tailoring disaster with my navy coat. I didn’t really want to stand out that much (I ride a paint so I stand out enough!) I think I was the only person there not wearing black or navy! And the dressage judge hated us! I’m sure it was because of the coat! (Ha ha, just kidding, if I could have picked any judge to NOT have in my first recognized competition it would have been her.)
I’m a traditionalist at heart so I would say “neigh” but if you love it, go for it!
I have the same coat in a different color. The metal tabs bug me – but i just tuck them into the pockets and viola. no little distracting dangly things. it works well.
Well, I was a scribe at a dressage show where someone who happened to be a friend wore a gorgeous green coat on her paint. Her scores completely tied with another, and the judge awarded her the win, commenting on her tasteful and professional turnout compared to the other rider.
I have point-blank asked several R and S judges what they think about coats of non-standard colors, and all have said that they enjoy seeing diversity as long as the turnout is tasteful and neat. Maybe not all, but many dressage judges enjoy seeing something different in the ring. It sets you apart, and such a nice opportunity to be set apart Paint and all.
My whole outfit has no black. Brown saddle and bridle for the yellow pony (my previous was buckskin, I didn’t come up with this whole outfit for a 3yo, lol) and cream breeches/saddle pad/gloves with brown boots and helmet, plus the burgundy coat. I quite like my outfit! I just need to decide what color to bind my pad in. I think I might just do all one color cream to keep it mild.
Oh My God. Can you please please please send me a picture of your turnout?? It sounds absolutely stunning! These posts make me think of rearranging my own turnout… I’d love to have examples. I guess to anybody, if you are very pleased with your turnout and colors, I’d love to see a picture! I PROMISE I won’t share them with anybody/on any forum or social media,it’s just for my own viewing pleasure and decisions. I’m quite dressage fashion challenged… Sad but true.
That is a pretty jacket if you have the right coloring. It would look lovely with pale grey breeches. That burgundy range of reds looks awful on me unfortunately, and I can just see how it would match my face after a ride on a hot summer day.
I wear a navy jacket and helmet, tan breeches and gloves, cream saddle pad. That’s pretty daring for around here At the moment my boots are black, but I’m wrestling with my conscience about springing for the beautiful navy and brown ones that came across my email feed last week… pretty much the day after I bought a new pair of black ones of course.
Good to know. I really bought the berry coat for when I wanted to play dress-up at schooling shows and combined tests, and not necessarily to wear in recognized competition. But I do think it will look smashing on my bay!
I saw that one in person on Friday. Nice, deep burgundy color. Really stretchy. Its really lightweight too because its mesh. It doesn’t look see through from a distance. I tried on an XL, thinking maybe I’d need that because of my chest. Nope, need the L so I think it runs a bit big.
Someone talk some sense into me. I don’t need this jacket, but I so want it!
What size do you wear in horseware? I tried on the AA coat but thought it ran really small so I’m wondering if they changed the sizing?
All I have that’s Horseware are a few of the Flamboro polos. I think they’re size L (not home so I can’t check). I don’t think this jacket is made by Horseware. The brand on the jacket was Alessandro Albanese, which may be why the sizing is different than other Horseware clothing. I’m an hourglass figure who’s rather short-waisted with long arms and legs.
I wear a EUR 42 Pikeur Sarissa jacket. My old Pikeur Diana was a 16 long (think that equates to EUR 88).
