horsie birthday present for an 11 year old girl?

Any suggestions for a relatively inexpensive birthday present for a horsie 11 year old girl?

Issues are:
-she doesn’t own/lease a horse, just a lesson rider

  • barn limits horses to 1 treat per day
  • I wanted to get her a sparkly crop- not allowed to ride with a crop
  • her mother and I both work at the library, so books are kind of out

But, I had thought about getting her the first pony club manual (library doesn’t have them).

Any other suggestions?

a colorful saddle pad

a grooming brush or curry comb (if they groom the lesson ponies themselves)

cool horsey socks to wear with her boots!

A Breyer most like her favourite horse? Can’t help suggesting it, never grown out of loving them!

How about a new helmet cover? Or a heart-shaped curry comb in pink or purple glitter colors?

Some ideas

My 11 year olds like (all items came from local tack shop - but look through Dover catalog too)

Pair of socks I got that came with markers and a while horse head design on them – they colored the socks.

Horse themed t shirt to ride in

their own saddle pad

horse earrings or horse shoe earrings

horse paint by number (one of my favorites as a kid rider)

if she shows:

  • hair bows for braids
  • horse pin for her chocker

hope that helps

At that age I was pretty actively putting together a Breyer horse collection. They are still pretty inexpensive, although back in my day they were $7. !!!

Another vote for Breyers.

Saddle pads are good as long she gets to tack up and untack the pony.

Riding shirt like all the “cool” kids at the barn wear - Joules or Ariat.

D Manual for Pony Club - great suggestion and filled with useful info.

Horse Calendar in the discipline of her choice. Eventers have a great one so I’m going to assume everyone else does too.

When is her birthday?

Another vote for a Breyer. That is what I gave my 10yr student. Hey I’m 27 and I still like to get breyers as gifts!

Too funny about the Phantom Stallion. We got the ENTIRE series and several other horse series at the library. When they all came in one of my co-workers said “whose ordering the kids books now, iechris?”.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, I’m going to check out the Breyers and am thinking maybe some horsie earrings.

A saddle pad in her favorite color, with her initials! maybe matching helmet cover to go with it and anything else that matches.

there are lots of cute riding shirts too.

or a breyer horse too

Get her a subscription to a horse magazine either one geared toward kids or her interest.

Saddle pad or Breyer vote here too. Though I got my DD her own grooming kit for when she takes lessons. I still collect Breyers and always will, even comb the garage sales for them as well.

So, are horsey movies out?

I mean…dude. The Black Stallion (and the Black Stallion Returns!)?

And one I can’t for the life of me remember was set in Australia and this girl’s dad worked at the track or something and died when a horse stomped him (seriously, wigged out in a stall and reared up and stomped him). And she and her mom and her siblings move out to some old house in the country (and she’s understandably upset about all of this) and of course there’s a wild Brumby stallion that she manages to catch and tame, etc.

I loved that movie.

While Breyer is always good, I like the book or magazine ideas (there are several ‘adult’ horse mags geared to kids), clothing, calendars or even a gift card to the local tack store.

I would have loved a Breyer, especially one of the Breyers that is a well known horse.

I also like the saddle pad idea, I used to lesson with an 11 year old and she really did love having her own tack for the school horses. Made her feel like she owned at least a little part of the horse experience
