Anybody got any good suggestions? I’ve been wearing jeans (I trail ride in a Western saddle) but it is getting really hot and humid down here in the Coastal South. Has anyone found anything cooler to ride in?
Riding tights. Hands down. I haven’t ridden in jeans in years…and I’m a plus size gal. I wear riding tights with big shirts in the summer. Comfort is everything!
I think Kerrits or Tropical Rider makes a boot cut jod as well as traditional breeches cut.
Boot cut Kerrits. I haven’t ridden in jeans in years.
yoga pants! or running/athletic wear… SO breathable and a fraction of the price for usually the same material. The only time I actually wear riding pants is when I am in a lesson or showing…
I love my Kerrit’s. They wear like iron, keep their shape, stay nice in cool in 95 degree weather. I like the Kerrit’s flow rise riding tight, but the other styles look similar. And I splurged and bought a Kerrit’s Icefil shirt, it is so lightweight and lovely! I sound like an ad, but really, I’m just a customer
I bought Kerrit tights as well and they are holding up great! They work really well for trail riding and lessons in the sun!
Kerrits with pockets or maternity khakis.
Seriously, I’m not pregnant but kept wearing those riding.
No waist band or belt digging in. Very comfy and sturdy, and pockets. Love them for trail riding.
Yep - Kerrits!!
Oh my, picked a used pair up at a tack sale a few months ago now.
I LOVE THEM. soo soooooo so comfortable! and cool, and did I say comfortable?
And yes, they wear wonderfully, I have been wearing them CONSTANTLY, like 3-4 days a week, some long rides - I wash and dry them all the time, always come out looking great (okay - mine are crazy purple).
I even tripped and FELL in them (was being “helpful” and carrying a bag of shavings at the feed store and tripped over a pallet) - any way, managed to bust my knee wide open - but not a MARK on the tights! Can’t even see where my knee hit the pavement.
I have been meaning to order another pair or two.
I sometimes wear shorts with my suede chaps. It sounds crazy but it’s pretty cool–cooler than jeans and when you take the chaps off–heaven.
Same experience here. I’ve tripped, snagged, washed, etc… and they look good as new 4 years in.

So, I went to the local tack shop today and bought two pairs of tights. One is the Kerritts ice fil tight and the other is the Irideon Synergy tight. I’ll report back on how they ride. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.
Following. I ride endurance and have been debating if I should go for the ice fil tights. All my tights are the Kerrits flow rise. I love them!!!
I normally wear jeans when trail riding, but I have been known to wear large loosefitting surgical scrub tops for comfort.
Has anyone tried this, a ladies gaucho split skirt? It looks loose and airy, and much less revealing than tights

high 80’s with high humidity today, not too bad yet, but warm enough, and I get overheated real easy. Have to wear as little as possible to get all the air movement possible for heat dissipation. just light shorts and ridin boots, and straw hat with string to help shed the tree branches. The shorts can be dispensed with when out in the woods where no one is around to object. The horse flies are bad though. Have to keep after them, kill enough of them and they thin out for a short time, until more arrive. It muscle activity that generates heat, and I find it easy to generate considering the work I’ve done. Then all my ancestors came from cooler climates as far back as I know, (england, germany, holland, scotland, etc.) and I sometimes wander if that has something to do with it. My parents moved down from MI when I was a few months old, 49 years ago. When I have to work in the heat, I have to wear no more than necessary for maximum ventilation and then have cool water handy. If the humidity were less it wouldn’t be so bad, then a loose white covering would work good. But in such a highly humid environment anything that shields me from the air movement feels oppressive. In spite of that I enjoy field work and growing good food. I got in a good ride on my paso mare this afternoon, and she just loves getting out for a good run, it’s obvious. But most of my time now is spent digging stumps. That is running a trackhoe; it’s a good stump pulling machine, they’re pretty rotten and the biggest ones roll out with only a few minutes work on them, but there’s hundreds to do.
Those gauchos are kind of cool and retro looking. Like something Audra would wear on The Big Valley:)
I have to admit, I went on an organized trail ride yesterday and chickened out on wearing my riding tights. I just felt too naked. Wore Kerrits crossover breeches instead and they were pretty good. Will wear the tights when it’s just my friends and I out for a spin.

I would die in all that fabric. Like two stove pipes. And it lets in horse flies and such.
I rode in Kerrits tights yesterday with a tech-fabric polo top, untucked, so it covered my bum if anyone’s offended they are free to look at something else
Just any Kerrits or are there specific summer ones?
These? http://www.statelinetack.com/item/kerrits-microcord-bootcut-tight/E009640/
Okay, here’s my report. I rode in my Kerritt’s ice fil tights today and they were
AH-MAZING! Really. Really, really comfortable and kept me cool and comfortable. I’m going back to the tack shop tomorrow for another pair.
