Honestly, I have trouble dressing myself - so throwing my horse into the mix really complicates things. Since so many of y’all are obviously good at this I would love some help on what to buy for my new boy. He is a very light cream palomino paint. Heavy on the white. Most white horses look good in bright colors but his palomino parts are so light that I think bright colors overwhelm him. Help!
A friend has a mare colored much like your guy, and she sticks to brown/cream/white for her mare (with occasional black accents to match her black saddle and bridle). I suggested these Ogilvie saddle pads and she is planning to order at least one of them. She is particularly partial to the chocolate pads and has been able to find coordinating shirts and vests shirts in similar colors, and also found a set of chocolate colored polo wraps (although I don’t remember where).
I would avoid greens and anything with a green undertone. It’s very hard to get stains out of white horses and there is a yellow/green residue that lingers, even when you can’t see it consciously.
Light blue looks wonderful on palominos, and for your boy I’d make it subtle, not a “jewel tone”
An understated lavender would also look wonderful.

My late horse looked best in navy with light blue. He also had a navy blue ear bonnet with light blue trim but he wasn’t wearing it in this photo since it was taken in Dec.
I bet that icy blue with tan border would look great on my guy! Thanks so much! I’m definitely adding this to my Christmas list.
I actually have this pad, and it looks stunning on my dark orange toned palomino, but just sort of meh on the paint. It looks amazing on that bay, though.
I should definitely try a chocolate pad.
Sky blue perhaps?
He is very cute!
I feel like this thread will be the place someone would know: are there dressage saddle pad brands that tend to run shorter in the drop? I am short, hence my dressage saddle is short-flapped. Looking at an upgrade from the Dover I’ve been using but going thicker/fancier also means running into bunching.
Mattes has small pads, but hard o find outside of the hufglocken website. They are having a 30% off sale with free shipping .
If you really want to go down the wormhole, look at the customization feature.
Have you tried a cob size? Most of the fancier retailers offer different sizes.
The sky was nice enough to coordinate with my outfit for my lesson yesterday. This morning I’m breaking in the ES Total Eclipse pad.
The pony sized Equinavia/Horze pads work well on my mare/smaller saddle. They’re not thick but they’re nice. I added cheap braid trim to my show pads for a little extra (not too effort, just a zig-zag stitch).
I love this thread so much! It gives me all the happy feels.
I’ve never been much of a fan of the color green but my new chestnut mare has turned me into a convert
*Currently she’s not wearing the matching wraps because she’s five and it’s winter so patience is in short supply but we’re getting there
Wow, I love her face marking!
