I ordered the lavender and light grey from Amore, I have a new chestnut and I am tired of my black/rose gold ensemble from the past few years. I do wish they had kept the 4 button front, but can’t beat the price.
OK—nothing very unique here (navy)—but I love navy on a bay. After having to retire my bay mare . . .my new guy had to wear her “hand me down” colors for his first schooling show. Despite him being black—I thought it was a bit matchy! Some regrets —he rolled in the mud so hard that morning, I ran out of time to braid. And couldn’t find my navy fly bonnet. Shirt, hat and gloves are the matchy-est I will ever be!
Beautiful horse! i’m with-you on color combo, i like blue on a bright bay and navy or midnight blue on a dark bay or sun-faded black.
I’m starting two new horses. One a bright bay (with a splash of white on his belly)…so blue. But the other one…he’s gonna be tough. A varnish appy. and browns just don’t do him right. Black is too severe. I’m stumped. I think maybe he needs color. Going to try a plum - brown combination. (halter first). I’m not a purple person, so i don’t even have a purple saddle pad (and i have 30 or 40 saddle pads)
It depends on the base coat, but years ago I saw a burgundy saddle pad on a varnish app and I haven’t stopped thinking about it. It suited the horse SO well. I think plum is the right direction!
hmmmm…burgundy huh? well, that’s a good thought. There are some pieces of leather tack that can be bought in a reddish tone. His name is Ajax, i’ve a pic of him modeling a spots halter over on Mustang Shopping Anyone in off-course topic. I think his base color is a medium brown, reddish brown. All his dark spots are so small it’s hard to tell. He looks freckled…
What about chocolate and/or dark/burnt orange on him?
Thank you eightpondfarm! I have managed to have all bays in my horse life so I have lots of black, white and navy gear! I feel like grays can wear ANY color and look great. I think Chestnuts and bright bays are tricky (thus my collection of navy stuff). This new black horse opens up some other color possibilities! His browband has some teal in it so I may try to go that direction with him.
Would love to see a pic of the varnish appy to help think of colors for you to consider. I am not sure what varnish means----is it like a caramel color? Liver chestnut? I do think a plum might look stunning on a liver chestnut. What about a pale sky blue?
Is the varnish appy base black or base red? If base black, perhaps charcoal or med/dark grey with black/silver accents would look nice. Navy might also work. If base red, what about rust/brunt orange?
[Pics snagged off of Google]
he’s more reddish undertone, but not as red as that photo you posted.
Until you get near he looks pretty white actually. His summer coat is more white than is his winter one. But once you get close you get to see all the brown freckles. He has Egyptian god eyes too.
He is gorgeous—lovely head too! I really love how his ears are darker colored-- and that makes me think that a medium brown or caramel colored pad would look really nice on him. A shade of grey that blends with his grey on his coat. What a pretty guy!
He does! Eep! I love him! How big is he? I’m a hunter rider that strayed into this thread, but I appreciate Apps and matchy colors. He reminds me of my first trainer’s old App that he used for up/down lessons. #SAINT
Do you want colors that “blend in”? Because that makes everything nearly invisible…or do you want colors that pop a bit? I would try dark hunter green or bright navy.
Oh thank you! and slp2 thank you…annd Knights_Mom thank you
He’s 16h, which is really big (for me 14, 15 is my sweet spot)
He’s not young. Was a wild stallion until about 6 mos before i bought him from BLM. He’s not young, btwn 12 and 15…it’s taken a while for him to lose his wild -and he’s quite tame now. So just starting.
His appearance is impressive enough because he has size and movement, but his personality is not vibrant at all. He’s a quiet fellow. Not imposing. So i think something that pops might help with an overall impression? I have no idea whether he will proud-up under saddle …that’s a big question mark. My guess is he will be one of those good, quiet, obedient older geldings.
Ooh, I hope he turns out to enjoy being a tame pony. I love his presence. As to color, what about dark teal?
I am admittedly not a dressage rider but O M G are all of these photos gorgeous! You all look amazing and now have me wanting to go out and buy all the things.
Here’s my question…which manufactures also make CC pads like this? I know that Lemieux does and they are lovely. I also have a bright blood bay 2 year old and would love color suggestions for next year!
Please keep all these lovely photos coming!
Most of my pads are from Equestrian Stockholm or PS of Sweden, and they both make jump pads.
NOTE: I’ve found the PS of Sweden pads a bit more slippery and I have to use a thin rubber shelf liner between my saddle and the pad or it slides back.
Oh I think every company does jump pads in the same range of colors and materials as the dressage pads!
