How are your 2011 yearlings doing?

I know, not everyone wants to share their awkward babies, but I noticed that there hasn’t been a thread yet about our foals from last year. How tall is everyone? Any surprises with personality, colour, or development?

Please share!

Guess I can start us off…

I have only one foal from last year, and she’s been a surprise across the board. She was born big, and was tall as a foal through weaning, but I assumed with her breeding that she would slow down. She’s 11.5 months and I sticked her at 14.3 in front a couple weeks ago. Looks like I might end up with something a tad over my desired height maximum…

Born looking like this:

As of this past weekend, looks like this (getting some love from the BO’s daughter):

Her little bum frosting has also started doing this:

She’s registered as an Appaloosa Sport Horse, is out of a heavily Plaudit-bred mare, and by a son of Royal Senna.

Just love her!

Twist my arm! Juliet is 15 hands at 13 months. These were taken Friday.

Just about a week after turning one, mine was 14.3 1/4 in front and 15 3/4 behind.

He’s since had his mane pulled, and obviously isn’t as shaggy, so please no comments on his field-kept-ness

He’s about 85% TB, by Gatsby, out of Funny Cat (Tomorrow’s Cat/Pleasant Colony)

Can’t wait to see him after he sheds out!

![]( will share! I only had one foal last year, a filly by Benno’s Dream, out of TLF Crown Jewel (Crown Heartbreaker).
I took this photo a couple weeks ago, she is butt high and not shed out yet. She stands 13H at the wither.

I’m not playing!! :no::no::no:

My two yearlings are an embarrassment to their bloodlines and breeder (me!). Hideous giraffe-y things with no width and noodle necks. I know this is temporary but until then they’re secreted out the back paddock until normal horseyness is resumed.

I’d be pretty darn happy with the way mine looked if only she weren’t still as hairy as a yeti in the middle of winter.

She is taking forEVER to shed out. It’s driving me crazy.

I went to see her over the weekend, brought her inside, shortened her mane, spent a good half hour grooming, she stood quietly the entire time, no fidgeting, no calling for her buddies (even though they were screaming for her!!), just quiet, sweet & demure. She hasn’t changed a bit, personality-wise. She’s a quiet, stoic one, just like her mom.

I then took her out back into the fields & wooded trails for a handwalk, she was a gem. Spooked once when a big bird flew out of a bush right beside her, but as soon as she hit the end of the leadrope, she stopped & stood, eyes wide “moooom, wtf was THAT??”. On the way back toward home, i asked for a trot & she happily floated alongside me, no hopping or playing, no cantering, just a nice, quiet forward trot.

I could not have been more proud of her. She is an incredible filly. I simply cannot get over her temperament - i raved about my 2008 baby’s temperament when he was her age, but she truly makes him seem downright HOT in comparison!

She’s a bit on the small side, though - I will stick her on her 1st birthday next week, but i think she’s around 13.3hh at the moment. I expect she’ll finish in the 16hh range.

I am really pleased at how my yearling is looking - he is 15.2hh and looks so much like his dad - his dad is almost 18hh.

Here is my yearling filly, I am not sure how tall she is but probably around 14.2-15 ish hands.

I am so grateful she made it through her first month, and even more so to have her here, a year later.
She is Licotus - Rohdiamant - Akzent II

Boy Tracy - she’s a beauty. Not the same species as my yearlings …

Tracy - I agree with Sunnydays on that!

I’ll play!

Such classy yearlings!

I have two Balou yearling fillies, only one of which is ready for public viewing  The one that only a mother could love at the moment has surprise belly spots! When she had her spring spa day last week I noticed them

My yearlings are looking very nice at the moment although a little bit ribby. My Pointmaker-Florencio-Lafitte filly was gorgeous as a foal, but turned into a wooy behemoth over the winter. No definition to her legs since her coat was so long. She doesn’t have the smallest ears, but they were huge with the extra bit of hair.

My Banderas filly was beautiful all winter, she’s just one of those.

The Pointmaker, Luciana is going to a breed show on June 1, we’ll see what the judge Dinah Babcock thinks of her. I think she’s lovely of course. When I learn to use my new camera, I’ll post a photo of both fillies.

I normally don’t share photos of yearlings that aren’t show prepped, but I think this colt is pretty special (and yes, his mane is now GONE as of Friday  ). I dragged him out of the pasture and took some cell phone photos. This is my yearling Section B Welsh colt, Clanfair Gold Rush, “Simba”. I love, love, love this colt… even if he’s going through a gangly stage. I took him to a show on Saturday (spur of the moment), and he came home with a blue ribbon  Such a good boy too.

My girl is a tad over 15hh at a year, bloodlines Jazz-Rohdiamant-Wiesenbaum xx. We think she’ll top out no more than 16.2ish…at least that’s what I’m praying for. That’s the perfect height for me. She actually looks great right now other than needing to fill out, you look at her from the side and she’s very nice…from the front, needle thin:lol:!!! I’ll try and get some good pics of her.

Just got new video of one of mine in Germany. This boy is soon to be going to his new home in Finland. He is a Quaterback out of a Prince Thatch xx/ Argentan mare.

Geez mary Lou, he’s got some ping in him huh?! Lovely stuff.

Gen - LOVE the bum on that buckskin! Awesome.

Tracy, your Licotus still has me drooling!
