How do you carry cellphone or iPhone while riding?

I have a Spibelt and I love it but it does make actually using
the phone a bit problematic.

The Tune belt looks good I just wish it was colorful like the Spibelt. My Spibelt has colorful peace signs all over it.

The irideon synergy tights have a pocket in the back of the waistband that perfectly fits an iPhone. I was sceptic all, but tried it the other day on a. Bareback ride and it worked without being annoying. I wouldn’t want the phone there though if I was doing anything that might result in me falling though as it seems like a safety hazard. I also, after much searching, finally found a case made to wrap sound my boot. I think it might be by horseware, but I’m not sure.

Equissentials will put a cell phone pocket on the outer thigh of their riding pants for a small charge. I asked them to make it big enough for an iPhone, and that is what they did. If I am trail riding and rain is possible, I put the phone in a ziplock sandwich bag and then in my pocket.

I’m confused by those of you who ride with the phone in your bra. How do you not ruin your phones with sweat? When I’m working a bunch of horses I’ve found that my phone gets wet/misty when it’s in a breast pocket or even at the top of my arm. I can’t imagine how it would look if I stuck it in my bra…and I don’t think I sweat much more than an average person. Though I am not well endowed, so maybe there’s a shielding property real boobs provide that I’m not aware of (and wish I was!)

Most of my breeches have pockets that I use for my phone, and I also have a couple of arm bands - one I use around my arm and the other I use around the top of my boot. I used to aim to keep my phone up high so I could have ear buds in, but now I just play my music on speakerphone and I can hear it fine from pretty much any spot I put it (pocket, arm band, etc.).
I carry my phone in my bra when I’m desperate, but I have actually destroyed a phone by having it short out from sweat after continuously having it in my bra while riding during the summer. I wouldn’t recommend this, unless you plan on not ever getting sweaty…

I stick mine in my jeans pocket. It’s very slim and lightweight, so I don’t really notice it.

I use an velcro arm holder, sized specifically for the large iPhone5.

I also got tired of trying to ride in headphones, and having them stick on the saddle when I dismounted and rip suddenly out of my ears, plus having only one in, meant that the other one was loose, and while it might have started the ride neatly wound up, it would never stay there.

So, I have a small bluetooth earpiece that streams music, as well as lets me talk. Do I look like a self-important granny in wal-mart with it it? Yes, yes, I do. But, I love being able to listen to music or podcasts/audiobooks with it on low volume while I am doing chores or riding. I ended up with the most basic one that would both stream music and let you talk – Costco had it for about $29. I have been dumped with it on, and had it stay put.

The only thing I don’t like about the armband (well, there are two, really) is that it looks ridiculous if anyone ever snaps a pic, and it gives you a weird tan line. And, also, it is hard to access the phone to do anything with it.

Which is probably not a bad thing, as it discourages texting while on horseback . . .last time I did that, the Princess ran me into a tree. Sigh.

SPIbelt user here. Can hack, do trots, gallop & jump school without issue. Doesn’t work so well at sitting trot (the absolute only time it bounces a bit) but I don’t wear it if I’m doing a dressage school.

I just got one of these, which velcros around my boot:

LOVE!!! I don’t even notice it is there, even after a 2.5 hour fox hunt. Fits my iPhone with otter box beautifully. Magnet open/close so it’s easy to grab to take pictures.

I would not put a cell phone in your bra, all those EMF waves going into sensitive breast tissue, too risky for cancer. Doctors just figured that a young girl with very aggressive breast cancer was caused by her carrying her cell phone in her bra all the time. Your not even suppose to let a cell phone touch your head while speaking into it. Arm or leg band would be safer I think.

Yep, another vote for the sports bra

I have my iPhone in a LifeProof case and use the belt clip on a belt most of the time. Sometimes, I just shove it in the top of my tall boot or half chaps.

I like the idea of the govelope… Plus supporting something obviously horsey, made in the USA, etc. But I need to see if all my breeches have belt loops

ROFL, like riding? Sorry, don’t mean to pick on you, I just had to giggle a little when I read that one. That is definitely a hazard though, don’t want a phone sitting on your spine when that hits the ground! Don’t forget armbands don’t know if they are on your leg!

iPhone in protective vest

I was lucky many years ago when I bought a Phoenix safety vest made by Tipperary when at Rolex. This was in the late 90’s and my vest is not what you think of when you think of Tipperary. There are no laces on the sides.

My vest looks similar to the Rodney Powell vests or the Lamicell vests with a zipper up the front. There are large “tabs” that have velcro that you wrap around to the front to adjust the fit. What makes this vest different is that the large “tabs” each have a pocket. I can keep my iPhone in one and my keys in the other or a map in the other if I am trail riding. Actually I usually keep my one key on a large safety pin that I pin to my belt loop. With the iPhone in the front pocket, it’s easily accessible and it is out of the way in a fall plus the vest padding is between you and the phone.

I don’t know why they stopped making this vest design because it is perfect. The cover of the vest is custom colors and comes completely off for washing and has shown almost no wear in all the years I’ve fallen in it and washed it and worn it. The only thing negative about it is that the padding inside is of the old type, not the newer and probably better type. However, a few years ago I called Tipperary, sent them a photo of my vest and they sent me new padding (still the old type).

I am going to bring this vest with me to Rolex this year and see if any of the vest makers would consider making something like it. It is very easily adjustable and comfortable and practical.

Haha, fair enough! I’m sure you can guess tht I meant jumping or doing other things that increase my chances of falling beyond the normal risk.

I like Armpocket…sizes to fit even the largest smartphones, and I bought the large size strap which will fit on my arm if I snug it all the way down but will also fit around the top of my calf, which is awesome. I used it all the time when I was an intern and on call - never lost it, even galloping around a couple hundred acres of cow pasture in Kansas.

Thanks for sharing- that looks perfect!

Wanted to post an update - got my Armpocket today and it’s perfect! I got the i30 with the large band. It fits an iPhone 5s with an otter box and zips closed so it’s nice and secure. The size is perfect to wear just above my knee.

I’ve had free time today (odd), and di lots of research. I ordered the SPIBelt off of Amazon so if I don’t like it, I can send it back. We shall see…

Awesome ideas here and there is no way I could’ve done all of this comparison shopping without this group.
The Spibelt is great. IPhone with otterbox fits in the small one just fine and I can’t even tell I am wearing it. I am going to get a new bluetooth so I can talk and ride safely.

I like these that strap to your boot. Just wondering if they really stay good and closed during the force of all kinds of stresses but mostly when getting tossed off. You said you’ve worn yours fox hunting and it hasn’t become dislodged so might give it a go. Back In The Saddle has it for a tad cheaper: http://www.backinthesaddle.com/itemdy00.aspx?ID=6,386&T1=B64502+BL+L

My phone is in a protective flip case and I’ve been just putting it into a small fanny pack and riding with it around my waist at the small of my back. It does fine, there but you do have to be stopped to get at it, but it is zipped into the pack and won’t fly out.

I had the same worry with just a magnet closure. Plus I always thought magnets near tech stuff was a no-no… Ended up getting the armpocket with a large band so it fits around my leg. No way is that thing coming open at the wrong time.
