How Do You Choose a Show Name?

I’d take the “I’m a” off and go with Little Teapot

I really like Constant Comment, or what about Tea Time? A friend of mine has a horse whose name is Tee Time, but to keep with the tea theme you could just change the spelling (:

My gelding came with a registered name but my mare didn’t. She had the barn name Bella but I didn’t really warm up to that and named her Ruais (Gaelic for Rhapsody) for her barn name. So her show name will end up being “Bella Ruais”.

She’s my beautiful Rhapsody.

Go with what makes you smile when you hear it!

I’m not sure if you’re interested in the British side of tea and tea time, but incase to you are…

High Tea
Devonshire (a form of the tea meal)

High Tea just seems too fancypants for the geeky little thing. I’m leaning more towards “Afternoon Tea” if I went with something along those lines. While I love a good British high tea (especially since it’s an excuse to get dressed up!) it feels too fancy, if that makes sense?

Crud, now I want to get dressed up and go have tea at the Empress. Haha!

To play with the “Tea and Toast” idea and combine it with High Tea, what about “Tea and Crumpets”? Wee bit of stereotyping (as I’m sitting here eating a crumpet with jam and sipping earl grey, haha)

There you go, Tea at the Empress! Unique. But I still like I’m a Little Teapot.

I LOVE I’m a Little Teapot! That’s my vote. And he is so freakin’ adorable. Have fun with him.[/QUOTE]

Agree with this! He’s super cute OP, so what if the name “wouldn’t be well received”? It’s cute, he’s cute, go for it if you like it! =]

My british friend did casio songs before it was cool under the name Timothy Winchester and he wrote a song I love called Tea and Cake.

He is adorable! Love the idea of shortening the name to simply “Little Teapot” - but all of those suggestions are super cute. Must admit, I am a bit partial to Teddybear Picnic, too. How cool that you and the boy have tea company connections!

Well my one horse I picked up when I didn’t really have room, so we called her Jello because no matter how full you are there is always room for Jello. And her show name was Jello Shot because I really had to be drinking to take on another horse before surgery.

I still haven’t gotten a good show name for my one made so I am just using her registered name.

Another was named Zydrate after a song in a movie. Then there was Couture a very delicate TB who we named that because she was classy. My pony’s barn name is Puck as he is mischievous, and the kids show him under the name Paddington Bear because I loved the book, but I will show bhim under the name What The Puck.

barring offensive names, you are the only one the name has toimpress or make happy, so if you like I’m a Little Teapot, GO FOR IT!

I have a few decade old tradition of using a “musical” theme - so far I’ve had:
Felonious Monk (a riff on Thelonious Monk and yeah, next to nobody got it, I didn’t care)
Straight No Chaser (see Thelonious Monk for song)
Kings and Vagabonds (horse in my profile pic, line from Elton John’s “Can You Feel the Love”)
London Calling (the Clash. 'Nuff said)
Throwing Copper (album name by the band Live)

Are these names slightly esoteric and out of step with fashion? Hellz yes! Do I care? Hellz no! Does it give me a cheap thrill when somebody gets it? Hellz yes! Do I care if you don’t get it? Hellz no!

I mean there are so many things we don’t have control over or need to comply with some silly requirement. This isn’t one of them. Pic the name you like and don’t worry, be happy<— gratuitious use of more song lyrics.

Couture TB - LOVE that you named a horse after a song from Repo! It’s actually one of my favourite movies/musicals :stuck_out_tongue:

Teddybear Picninc is winning out among my friends, followed closely by someone’s suggestion of “Bear With Me” (the double entendre of it makes me split a gut laughing, and the person who suggested it didn’t even think of it, haha), Java Bean Supreme, and I’m a Little Teapot.

DMK - yay music names! A friend had a mare named Carmina, and she showed under Carmina Burana. Another friend events her mare as Wish You Were Here and their saddle pad for cross country has the Pink Floyd logo on it

Java says thank you for the compliments. They made him feel better after today’s CTJ moment in the ring :stuck_out_tongue:

I love Teddybear Picnic. That’s always been on my list of names I think belong on a cute pony.

I showed my first horse (a 15.1 Chestnut roam Appy!) as A Little Pissed Off for a season. Because my Dad always said if I got a horse he was naming it ALPO or Elmer’s! Besides, it actually fit him well when jumping!

I did change it to Encoded Message for the rest of his career.

I like Tea for Two! And he is adorable!!

smacks hand on forehead for missing such an obvious good choice as Wish You Were Here…

(possibly edges out DSOTM as favorite Pink)

I like I’m A Little Teapot!!!

I keep a running list of show names for “my next horse.” I only tell people the ones that I’ll realistically never use - the ones that I really really like and want to use I try to keep to myself so no one thieves them from me. So far, there’s no horse registered with USEF that has either of the names I want to give my next jumper OR my next fancy hunter.

Most recently, however, I decided that it would be fun to get a bitchy mare and name her Girlfight.

I keep a running list of show names for “my next horse.”

Me too

I also like “Tea for Two”

I like this. A lot of people will naturally go to “I’m a little teapot” without the I’m a part anyway. I also wouldn’t care what other people think. The name is for you…not them.

I’ve only given two horses names and they suited them and me. for the first, he was “Just for Fun” because honestly, I was getting back into riding and he was an entry level, plain sort that was a good guy. The second had a show name of Perfect Alibi and I HATED that, so I knew it was changed. Interestingly, I had him named the second the vet check was satisfactorily completed, but then he had to live up to it before I bought any name plates (By Request). That took a about 6 months of struggle…but the name is right for him. The other two had registered names that didn’t bug me and nothing was calling to me, so they have kept their registered names.

Forgot to update with the final decision, woops!

Java is now AKA “Bear With Me”! <3

This is a double entendre. On the one hand, it literally means “please bear with me, I’m a green bean”, and on the other hand, my nickname is “Bear” so when I show him he’ll have a “bear” with him.
