How do you put your name on your crop?

I left my beloved Fleck crop on my trunk and I think it went to live with another family. :frowning:

Is there a trick to affixing one’s name to a whip that doesn’t involve duct tape?

I’ve always wanted to try nailing a small saddle or bridle plate in to the handle. It would be covered while you’re holding it… Just not sure it would stay put/if there are nails small enough for a handle.

Could try leather stamping the swatter part. A few girls at the barn write their names on the swatter which isn’t really noticeable from afar despite being written in silver.

I use one of those printed address labels, the ones that come with the numerous organizations’ fundraisers you get in the mail at this time of year. Wrap with a few layers of clear shipping tape over the label. Mine have lasted for years.

Depending on the material used, You could use a wood/leather burning tool to burn in your initials into the swatter. I probably wouldn’t do it on a patent leather one though. They sell them at michaels.

I got sturdy labels from LabelLand or you could make your own, and wrap around the crop right below the handle.

I ordered various sizes of those rub-on monogram/initials from one of the many sellers on Etsy or FB. Put one on the back of my helmet and a 1" circular one on the swatter of my crop. You really don’t notice it when riding, but it looks classy and subtle.

P.S. you want something that can’t be removed folks!

And there is a business idea - etched monogrammed poppers!

I don’t worry about permanent at my barn. Stuff doesn’t get stolen intentionally. Left out and forgotten or left at the ring or truly accidentally taken, yes.

SquishTheBunny makes amazing Crop ID’s that stay on the crop and look very fancy. I love mine.

You don’t just buy High Viz orange crops? No one takes mine…

I was just checking out the monogram end caps at swanky saddle. I don’t know how easy they are to apply, but they look sharp.

I use a silver Sharpie and freshen it every few months. I write it on the rubber handle where my hand covers it. I did that immediately upon recovering my beloved Fleck that I thought was lost forever.

They look wonderful, but mine fell off after a few months - and I didn’t use my crop more than 1-2 rides a week. A little disappointing, because I was going to get more if they worked.

I’ve had a shop burn my initials into the popper (for free even, by the late lamented Miller’s); invisible from a distance but very clear close up. Didn’t stop that crop from growing feet even so, but I guess there’s more than one “AMB” in the world.

Really Cabaret SK? Mine held up though out the New England winter, then buried in the ring because a kid took it and left it there for 6 months.

I used a label maker to print out my initials with a neat little box around them. I then attached this to top of the metal knob on the crop. I used this crop exactly once at a show and it disappeared never to be seen again.

So I’ve given up!

Yup! And this was a crop used sparingly and stored in a climate controlled tack room. As far as I know, it wasn’t used by others (I kept it fairly hidden, and the barn owner had dressage whips to use freely available in the arena).

I write my name in sharpie inside the fold of the leather popper. You don’t see it unless you’re really looking for it and you can’t peel it off or cover it up.
