How far North are the barn swallows?

Lots of them at the barn in NH…

see below

Southern Ontario here and ours were still around on the weekend but for the last 2 days not a single one. Over the summer I counted 16 visible nests, I know there were some hidden where the arena and barn attach and there were several high up in the arena rafters. I have no clue how many in total we had. Most of the nests had 4, three or four had 5 and one had 6. All had two sets this summer - last year we had a couple of nests with 3 sets. The barn is so quiet now. I loved sitting and watching the parents fly in and out feeding their young and the young squawking away and learning to fly. Hopefully they will all return next year.
‘Bye, bye birdie’

Now we have flies. :frowning:

Yes!! Like a switch went off! I just figured it was that time, it never occurred to me the swallows were the difference…

Thanks for that site! It’s lovely to hear their song - I miss it already!

our are all gone, but the light fixture that they nested has been replaced! thanks to all of our boarders for being so understanding that everyone made do with a plug in trouble lite at the tack up area.

I have a question. Does anyone else still have killdeer hanging around. I have about eight that have not left yet, and this is rather late for them to still be here.

I also saw a small herd (flock? grouping?) of killdeer yesterday.

I have 2 barn swallows (at least I THINK they are barn swallows) in my barn this evening.

They are heading north! I hope to see them soon. I know we are truly in the spring season when they arrive.

At least two pairs showed up at my barn in Tennessee today. Flying around, choosing their nests and chattering all the time. It was wonderful!

I hope they stay away a bit longer, I love them but it is too cold here still.

My swallows are back! Just spotted them a few minutes ago. So excited to hear their chirps. I am about an hour north of Charlotte, NC.

Our pair showed up a week after St Patricks, right on time.

I saw my first 2 today in Pittsburgh, PA!

I moved in March 14 and have a pair on my front porch . Mineola TX now.
