How far North are the barn swallows?

I saw some yesterday, when I was walking the puppies at the park- but none at home yet. Since we’re only a mile and a half from the park, that’s kind of odd!

i was watching them mating while in the barn training yesterday… Makin Eggs!! whooooopie

Mine arrived South Central PA on Monday, a few more yesterday!

Just saw one taking up residence in the nest in my barn. By the amount of noise she was making I’m sure she was annoyed at how dirty it was. There are a lot of old feathers hanging out of it for some reason. Cats can’t get up there so not sure what that was from.

They’re here! Swooping and chatting. Love me some barn swallows.

I saw two this morning, Northern Virginia.

The first male arrived in the Twn Cities yesterday

Mine have arrived in lower Michigan! They must have arrived early this morning, they greeted me at 7 am morning chores.

Probably from the fledglings as they left the nest last year.

Had a male scouting out the barn two nights ago, but have not seen him – or any others – since. Soon, I hope…

About 30 now in my barn in MA!

They started moving in about 2 weeks ago.

30 barn swallows, lucky you! You must have a long residence group that have been coming to your barn for years.

The barn I have been boarding at for years sold in March. It used to have 20-30 nesting pairs every year. Unfortunately the new owner does not want them and is keeping the barn closed up. I’m absolutely heart-broken.

How awful…but they can make a mess.
I seem to have only one pair. Maybe we’ll get more.

Yes, they make the Appy look even more Appy and give honorary blanket spots to the OTTBs.

Saw 2 barn swallows in Metamora MI on Sunday. None at my house yet, a bit west of Metamora. We really have no insects at the moment, nothing here to eat yet. Been too cold for the bugs so far, which is nice when playing with the horses! Supposed to warm up this week, jumping 25 degrees into hot. Not going to enjoy that!

Ours are back and I believe the female is setting on eggs as she doesn’t leave the nest even when I pass by right below her.

Finally saw a handful of them hanging out on my fenceline this morning on the Eastern Shore of MD. Not sure if any will take up residence on mybarn or if they’ll move in at the neighbor’s (which isn’t as “busy” as mine).

And saw my first kingbird of the year, too! (They’re not as acrobatic as the swallows, but I love seeing them come back just as much .)
