How many beds does your dog have?

Hi, my name is RTR and I have a dog bed hoarding problem…

My JRT has around 6ish beds and I just bought him 2 more at lunch. He does share them with my mother’s daschund (whom I borrowed/stole to keep him company), so that makes it not as bad right?

Sometimes he will pick a favorite and drag it around the house behind me. If I stop for too long in one room he will climb in and lay down while waiting for me to finish up and move on. Sometimes he will pile 4 of them up on top of each other in his crate and sleep on top all princess and the pea style, and then sometimes he will lay his body on one with his head on another. He NEEDS all those beds. >.>

Sorry but I do not see this as a problem. You should not be beating yourself up about this. Granted, perhaps you are overcompensating for some trauma in your childhood. Maybe you knew a dog that only had one bed…? I think the type of care you are giving your JRT is spot on. My rat terrier has 3 beds. The other three dogs have to share three beds and um…the couch… and …um… my bed. Go ahead, call me an enabler.

  1. Unfortunately, the cat, who considers himself Emperor, takes the nice ones, poor JRT…We joke that the cat considers them his thrones, and that by giving the cat his bed, the dog is just paying appropriate tribute.

Hummmm, let’s see. We have 4 house dogs (a lab mix, a yorkie, a silkie and a JRT). Beds… Well, there’s the couch, an ottoman conveniently placed right in front of the wood stove, a recliner, an overstuffed easy chair, a queen sized bed with pillowtop and memory foam topper, and as an absolute last resort , the two oversized, overstuffed pillow thingies on the floor that are otherwise known as dog beds - in MOST households that is!

HAHAHA! I knew I couldn’t be alone.

I completely failed to mention that said JRT has his own recliner and usually sleeps under the covers in my bed after midnight. When I go to bed, he brings a dog bed with him and goes to sleep in it beside my bed, but later in the night he climbs in my bed and crawls under the covers. He is also known to nap on the couch or loveseat as well. He likes to pile his beds up in his Discovery kids tent and nap too.

HPF, I think the issue is that I come from a family of pet over-indulgers. The pets know manners, but they just have stuff that some other peoples’ pets don’t. Picture my father and I in the backyard building my GSD and Siberian Husky a 2 story dog house complete with a screened porch. Our reasoning was that they liked to sit up high and be able to survey the land…lol. This was after the project where we fenced in a wooded acre next to the backyard for the dogs to play in. We called it their enrichment area…lol.

When my animals are happy, I am happy.

Hmmm…
Two dogs 1 3/4 beds. Because they cannot resist chewing up their beds! Current beds have lasted a while and they have only chewed the bottom which has flat foam - easy to pick up. When they move on to the edges it will be snowing inside again. Last beds had green fuzz inside!

I have one dog but 3 beds, and he sleeps in MY bed with me at night.

I only have a 500 sqft. apt.:lol::lol: and his beds are all 3X4 feet…he is a big boy who likes to stretch. Between his toys, the cat and Riley’s beds, I do not have much floor space.

Our two dogs and one cat share one jumbo bolster bed, a smaller bolster bed, two crate beds and a mamasan chair, plus two smallish outdoor beds on the screened porch. The cat has three beds of her own, none of which the dogs can fit into (but that did not stop the little dog from giving it a try).

Couches are by invitation only.

I must be mean.

One lab, two dog beds. One besides the couch and one in his crate where he usually naps. No dogs on the furniture or human beds. Helps cut down on the insane lab hair everywhere in the house.

I had two big ottomans for him, (one by the computer stand/front window for maximum viewing and snoozing opportunities) with one ottoman to make the bed more accessible (yes, my bed). The sofa and loveseat should count too, plus my bed that had throws on it bought just for him.

Four dogs, 3 beds.

Riley the 3 Legged Wonder Dog (aka Mr Opportunity) has a dog bed in the closet in the laundry room. That’s HIS spot, whether there’s a bed there or not. He chose it. Stay the he!! out.

Little Sis has the wicker bed with the memory foam, her daughter Boo inherited grandma Bumper’s cushy foam bed with the bolster ring when Bump died.

Bug sleeps upstairs with my husband on the king bed. Jay gets one side, Bug gets the other. Srsly. (our sleep patterns are SO DIFFERENT that neither of us get any sleep together).

There are two cat beds in the house and varied cat spots for sleeping. they mostly sleep on the couches/recliners or in the cat tower. Once the puppy is gone (she ships out Wednesday) the cats will start hanging out in my room again. Right now they are seriously pissed at me for bringing the barracuda into the bedroom.

I have 4 dogs and they each have a bed in the living room, the bedroom and the office. So that’s 3 beds each. Nevermind that in cool weather they’re virtually always on the couch with me (living room), bed with me (bedroom), or one or two are curled up around my feet (office). During the summer, they’re usually passed out on the nice cool tile floor. But you know, those are the three rooms I’m always in and they might need or want them, you never know so it is best to be careful. I have 3 ACDs and a German Shepherd so they all always have to be in the same room with me so it’s especially important.

hmm one puppy, he has his inherited bed, blanket in the crate, and full rein of the couch and loveseat when we are home and he gets on our bed to, I think he is set

Typically 8-10 dogs in the living room and kitchen area. 6 permanent, the others are mixture of various fosters. Ideally there are 3 large beds, but sometimes we’re down to one, like now. We cover the bed innards with two lawn and leaf garbage bags, so in case someone pees on a bed (usually the only reason we have to take one away), we just have to wash the cover. We have a whole series of photos from the years of fostering of 3-6 dogs sharing the bed. So cute and cuddly.

Sams club occasionally has awesome dog beds at good prices. Memory foam pieces and the like. That’s where we get ours.

Human furniture (and the bedroom) are by permission only. saves the sanity.

Is this a trick question? We’ve bought 4 beds for the dogs, my mom bought 2 for her “dog kids”.

However, it’s rare a dog is actually using one, as they are typically filled with cats

One bed, two dogs. Neither ever sleeps in it. Sometimes younger dog will lay on it and look out the window, but that’s about it. Cats do like it…

My puppy loved the cat bed though:

We had to give it back to the cats when it got too small for him, despite his best effort to keep it as his own:

He actually “used” it for months after that 2nd picture…mostly just as a pillow but I can’t find a copy of that picture right now.

She has a round bed with sides, an indoor/outdoor mat for nice days, a fluffy pink bathmat for the crate, one elderly wing chair with a nice if faded hunting print fabric, one shaky (gee, wonder how that happened) divan, one large sectional (which we mutually pretend doesn’t have dog body imprints on at the end of the day), one queen-sized human bed and, of course, the exact center of every doorway in the house. Also, the top of any dark stairs at midnight.

And now I’m questioning why exactly I’ve been making goggle eyes at the orthopedic beds at Petsmart. The $120 orthopedic beds, to be exact.

My flattie X has two actual dog beds…one is a big fluffy square one that he lies on to chew his bones instead of scraping them on the hardwood and the other is a soft fleecy bolster bed that he curls up into a wee ball in order to fit inside comfortably. Sometimes I see him sleeping with his head outside the bed and on the floor at a very awkward and what would appear to be uncomfortable angle.

BUT he also routinely sleeps on the couch upstairs which now has a special red wool blanket just for him. He knows enough that he is only allowed on the couch if he’s on the blanket and has to ask permission to get up IF someone is on the couch. If it’s vacant, then it’s fair game.

And he sleeps on my bed almost every night. He went from curled up into a wee ball on the foot of the bed to sprawling like a sultan diagonally across the bed and using my pillows as HIS pillows while I’m curled like a shrimp trying to find some room.

I’m also planning on making him a new bed for Christmas. XL dog beds are sooo expensive! I’m sure once I figure out how to make him beds, he’ll have more!

My dog has 3 dog beds, plus the couch and the bed. Spoiled!

… p.s. he also keeps a dog bed in the horse trailer to nap on while I ride.
