Vacation1-try looking at jeffersonline.com for a price comparison with Petsmart or Petco. Even with shipping costs some of the online companies sell a lot cheaper than the big box stores do. I used to live near Jeffers warehouse in Dothan, and it was so interesting to go to the main warehouse store and see the huge call center on the other side of the building. In fact, since it was about an hour drive I would call the catalog service to find out if the big items I wanted were in stock before I drove down.
My older girl dog loved her puffy, shearling ball, but the other dog who inherited when she died didn’t curl up, but instead laid flat out with his rear and head hanging off. I got him a rectangular bed that was a better size, and gave the puffy one to a friend with a smaller dog. Her dog would get in the center and start pawing until the bed was moving across the floor like a hamster wheel. The little dog would pick a different spot everyday and keep pawing until she was content. She really loved that round bed and really liked moving the bed all over.
None.
I’ve never really understood dog beds. My boy has access to my bed when I am gone and when I am home he can be on any of the couches or my bed. He is always at my heels when I am at home so if I am watching tv he is flopped across my lap or curled up next to me. The closest thing to a “bed” is when he nests on my favorite pillow when I am gone (which is why I neurotically change my pillow case every single night before bed).
If I had a “floor-sleeper” then I would probably buy beds but I don’t think my guy would use them.
Ms. kitty has one that she has used a handful of times but she would rather snuggle with the puppy or sleep under the bed.
Currently 8 dogs. I have a dog bed in my bedroom at work (small animal Er doc) for whoever goes to work with me, one in the kennel in the car. Then 5 more at home. If you have the chance to troll an L.L. Bean outlet, you can score high quality dog beds at good prices. Right now I need two more covers for the memory foam I have left over from the mattress topper I bought a few months ago as we trimmed a king size one for the queen size bed.
My dog has at least one in each room, if not two and she uses them all.
There is also one in the garage and two in the pickup, front and back seat and one on the tractor.
Lost count!
Toula the Irish Wolfhound has a nice big LL Beans’ bed upstairs, but I really wish she had one of those nice big ones with the head rolls for downstairs - since downstairs her preferred choice is the couch and she loves to lay her head on the arm rests - but not at $350++. (Very interesting to see how slinkily a 125 lb dog will get up on it, or off…)
Ricky the orange Maine Coon cat has a lovely wicker basket with an old feather pillow in it - but turns up his nose in disdain for his short cardboard boxes - which he also loves to knead - 1 in such disrepair you can see through it to the counter it is on top of…
or for my office chair, which carefully removes all of his loose orange hair, lying in wait for the backside of my pants/jeans.

Just at the Beans’ outlet outside Syracuse with my sister last week. At Thanksgiving she gave my brother-in-law a black lab puppy he named Duke. There, in the bin of dog covers, was a small one with “Duke” on it. He’ll grow out of it soon enough, but of course, she had to have it!!
We are now also going to carve up the mattress topper my son brought home from college… the one that became no longer useable for human rest when he used it in his truck bed to support the wooden bookshelf of his father’s, that he forgot to move before the last day allowable. Tried to wash the grime out of it this summer, but it was so heavy when wet it ripped in a few spots. Lucky Toula & Duke!
Oh, hell, I don’t know. Maybe a half dozen? For the one dog?
The cats are on them, more often than not. The poor dog is usually sleeping on the floor. I guess they’re cat beds, then?
I buy BIG dog beds at Sam’s Club for $30 or so. They’re not a $300 bed, but they’re the same quality as the beds (sometime the same BED) I see at PetSmart or PetCo for $100 or so.
CVPeg, have you thought about getting your hound her own couch? I have one in the bedroom that is the “dog couch” and it’s worked great. I bet you can get a loveseat in good condition off Craigslist for waaaaay less than $350++.
2 dogs… 2 dog beds, plus 2 floor pillows that were acquired for human use but have oddly enough become dog beds, and a sofa AND a king sized bed that the dogs kindly ‘share’ with us.
My dogs have helped me to understand that they need at least one cushy sleeping area in each room that I spend any amount of time in. So, bedroom, office, library, all need beds. Kitchen doesn’t need a bed because they will be ‘on patrol’ for fallen food items. They are good about sharing or rotating who uses which bed. Since they are also in charge of security, it is common for one dog to be sleeping on the bed in the office while I work, while the other takes up a defensive position down the hall on the bed or sofa.
The Airedale is also kind enough to drag the beds around to strategic new locations in the house, which helps her to monitor the nefarious activities of that suspected terrorist, the cat.
I have been given to understand that this is The Way of Things and although I am allowed to contribute more dog specific beds, none can be removed without seriously compromising the health and safety of the entire family.
One dog, 3 beds, 1 cage mat, the couch, my bed, and the list go on. Even with all those beds, if there is a blanket on the floor, thats what he’ll chose.
My dog has 4. She has two that are doughnut shaped that she can curl up in. She uses those when she sleeps in my room. She also has two flatter ones that are made for crate use. She also has about 4 rectangular pieces of heavy fleece that are used under the flat crate beds for extra padding.

 Airedales…
My husband says if I buy one more dog bed he will divorce me. LOL. Its my obsession. Sams Club (we live in the south and not sure if it is everywhere) has the best dog beds for our LARGE dogs. I think we have 6 right now for our two big dogs. And then the younger one is allowed on the sofas, my lap…and sleeps in his crate at night. Older MAIN MAN can do what he darn well pleases!!! Call me crazy and don’t let the breeding or hunter jumper forums know who I am!!!
LOL
Ha, ha, so I’m not the only one.
We have 7 dog beds for 2 dogs. 2 in the bedroom, 2 in the exercise room, 2 in the kitchen, and one currently outside. They also spend some time on the couch and on our bed. They rarely have to lie on the floor, I guess
Need 1 more: where to find cheap memory foam pillow?
I want to see pics of OP’s JRT surveying the land from his stack of beds inside his tent! You know the rules!
2 small dogs have 7 crates plus 1 coming from Santa. That’s 7 beds plus 2 around the house = 9. Plus all furniture and throw pillows. My Pap will scale a throw pillow propped vertically on the couch again and again until it smooshes down to a less extreme angle so he’s not sliding off or his servant fixes it for him. Apparently the couch isn’t comfy/tall enough: he needs to be on a pillow on the couch.
I would love to spoil my old man with a memory foam pillow. He loves the human ones and juuust fits. Anyone know where to get one without breaking the bank? I’m too cheap to get one for myself, but for my dog…
Haha! I don’t have any photos of him on his stack of beds, but here is one of him in the tent just after I threw all of his toys and one of his blankets inside. Yes, there is an empty Big Red bottle in there. He loves to play with empty bottles so everyone who comes to my house will wash out there empty bottles to give to him.

I had mistakenly thought that with the addition of 2 new beds I could remove the falling apart bed from the rotation. After much whining and crying and absolute fit throwing, the old bed is back and I am just going to get material to recover the bottom of it since it has been sewn back together about 20 times already.
Bicoastal-wandering through Walmart (yes, my primary social event) they had knockoffs of memory foam pillows, and though they don’t list them as available in the store, they are there. And Bed, Bath & Beyond has latex foam regular shaped bed pillows for about $30 each (just let them air out for a day or so since latex foam is a little stinky at first).
The Foster and Smith catalogue has dog “couches” and beds that I’d probably be comfortable in!

A few years ago I found a memory foam mattress pad (not sure what else to call it–it was about two inches thick and covered the bed) at Walmart for around $40. I bought one for my bed and one for the dogs, which I cut up into quarters and covered with fabric. Those were really nice until my house flooded and they got too disgusting for me to want to try to clean (like many other things did).
Just an idea if you happen to come across one of those.

I can tell from the pics that this little/BIG fellow rules your life!
3 dogs and only my bed as many many dog beds have ended their lives in tiny pieces. Two dogs sleep in my room and have access to my bed. The little beagle/GSD mix curls up beside me. My big guy, the Anatolian has a huge pile of blankets in the kitchen to sleep on as he chews those less than a dog bed. I fluff them up and rearrange them for him at least once a day so he can burrow in them and bury his antler chews.
