How much regular shampoo for a hose-end attachment?

Terrible title, I know, but I don’t know the formal name LOL It’s the little container that you attach to the end of your hose, with options for off, water only, and on/shampoo. Clearly it dilutes the shampoo.

I’ve never been willing to spend money on one, but Santa Cruz sent a free bottle, and while I don’t pretend to think that all you have to do it spray, let sit, and rinse for a deep clean, the utter ease of getting the shampoo on the horse has me hooked!

There must be a starting point amount to put in there. Do you put it in full strength? 50/50 diluted with water?

I received the same thing in the mail from Santa Cruz a couple of months ago. It confused me when the box came in because I couldn’t remember ordering anything from them recently!

Anyway, I just hooked the bottle up to the hose and started using it. I had the bottle’s nozzle in the off position first to get the horse wet then switched it on and got the foaming shampoo. I was amazed at how well it cleaned my horses. Even my haflinger’s mane and tail came out very white. I got a total of 4 baths out of the bottle. I kept the bottle to see if I can add my own shampoo to it but I’m thinking about ordering more of the Santa Cruz shampoo.

It’s the first time I’ve used a foaming shampoo and it was so much easier than the traditional way of shampooing a horse. I have really good water pressure so I don’t know if that makes a difference or not.

ETA: my bottle came with shampoo already in it so all I had to do was hook it up to the hose.

Hi all! The travel foamer you received as a free gift is set up to hook directly to the hose. No need to add water or dilute, as the attachment does it for you! We offer the foaming shampoo in larger sizes and with foaming tools, which I tell people not to fill more than half full (or you go through much more product). Feel free to PM me will any questions!

I love love LOVE these things. I don’t dilute the shampoo at all, the water mixes in automatically and does that for you.

I use this one

And add my own shampoo and/or liniment

Yes, I know how to use the freebie, and all other similarly pre-filled containers

My question is - once this is empty, if I want to use my own shampoo, does it need to be diluted? I’m going to assume from @vxf111’s comments that it doesn’t need to be. But, the stuff I have is really concentrated, so I might need to.

@bugsynskeeter do you work for SC? If so, awesome! Big fan.

The SC shampoo smells SO good. I do have a good bit of my regular shampoo left though so will use that up before buying new. But once that’s done I’m going to get the SC stuff.

Foaming shampoos are specifically formulated to foam correctly when distributed in a foamer. Most regular shampoos do not work in them. We have had several foaming tools broken at horse shows where we set up wash racks because people put the regular shampoo, or even conditioner, in the foaming tools.

Yes @JB I do  If you haven’t already, be sure to leave a review for the products and we send you a $15 coupon for each review! You might be able to get that bottle of shampoo for free!

How did I not know that after all these years?! LOL Well nuts. I really do have at least another year’s worth of shampoo LOL The “downside” of having highly concentrated stuff - it’s almost like Orvis LOL Since this container was a freebie, maybe I will try my shampoo, diluted probably 5:1 or so, and just see what happens. If it breaks… :frowning:

I’m not sure what level in the company you are, but awesome move on SC’s part

I will definitely pass it along  . With a regular shampoo, diluting it would probably be best!

I use liquid shampoo and don’t dilute it. If I was using a paste like Orvus I wouldn’t use this nozzle for fear of clogging. Liquid shampoo seems to work fine. They’re the Sam nozzles used for car washing and that shampoo is liquid

I can’t wait to try my free sample from Santa Cruz! I have a horse show on July 16th so will be trying it out then!

FYI @bugsynskeeter the fly spray works better than the stuff I had last year that was super foamy, thanks for the replacement!

I got the SC one and I have previously used a Vetrolin one. The Vetrolin one to me looks like it’s got straight Vetrolin Bath soap in there, but perhaps it is a bit different…I haven’t ever investigated closely. I think these things are great for this time of year doing a quick job on sweat and dust when show-ready kind of clean isn’t needed.

I wish I’d taken before pics, but I honestly didn’t think there’d be any real difference to show. The amount of whitening this stuff did on my horse’s seemingly perma-stained (red clay) socks is astonishing, and that’s with about 30 seconds of "soaking* and ZERO scrubbing.

The 2nd time, I held the nozzle up close to the legs and “scrubbed” that way, still only about 30 seconds of soaking, and even brighter white. I can’t imagine what I’d get with soaking and scrubbing!

Makes me want to try the SC version!!!

I don’t find it replaces the purple stuff for sock scrubbing, but it does smell really nice.

Wonderful! So glad it does!

@IPEsq - we might be developing a whitening shampoo for the foaming tool in the future. Stay tuned.

No doubt. Getting white, white, sometimes takes an act of some god LOL But I find it pretty much a miracle when a 30 second “soak” does a number on red clay

:applause:

I’m getting a sample! Can’t wait to try it and will report back. I just brought Somerset home so I have plenty of dirty white markings to try it on
