How tight should my breeches be...

As an adult ammy, I’m starting to worry that the trend of ‘tight breeches’ that is taking over won’t be all that flattering on me. Back in the day breeches used to be tight in the waist, but baggy in the butt. Now, not so much…

I love my TS Trophy hunters, but I’m somewhat in between sizes. The smaller size is comfy in the waist but they are pretty tight in the thighs. I’m ordering a new pair for show season and am wondering, is tighter the way to go? Or should I get the bigger size and wear a belt? Last thing I want is to look like a stuffed sausage…

Input sought from all you style gurus out there!!

I am between a 28 and a 30 in TS. I size up, and wear a belt. I feel much more comfortable with my breeches slightly baggy, and personally think it looks a lot better than a “stuffed sausage”.

I’m also between sizes in TS so I feel your pain. I just size up and wear a belt. Its easier to tuck in my shirts and I don’t worry about being uncomfortable.

Ha! I’m the opposite! If between sizes I tend to go with the smaller size. I find all breeches stretch as you wear them and I hate when they look baggy. I have muscular thighs so tend to find breeches tightest there - but with a couple of wears all is good.

Do you think your TS Trophy hunters stretch at all? I don’t think mine do much…

Unlike the TS of yore, I don’t mind the Trophy Hunters being a little bit more snug – I think the Euro seat makes them far more flattering, so I’d go by what fits best in the waist.

I prefer my breeches to be snug. I think it is really just a personal preference. I have found my Trophy Hunters stretch out in the waist band, so I buy a size down.

Wow, I don’t find they stretch at all!

Same boat – I am a 26 in the waist in TS Trophy Hunters but a 28 in the leg. I buy a 28. Hunny, I got cellulite and I don’t need to broadcast it to the world by stuffing my legs into tighter pants. I either wear a nice wide belt or get them tailored in.

I have noticed that the TS Trophy Hunters don’t really get baggy in the leg too much – not in compare to what other breeches I have worn (literally go up an entire pant size).

Ugh yeah, cellulite…

Just be honest with yourself. If the smaller size shows cellulite- size up. If you’re a tiny thing in a 26 or 28… size down if it makes you comfortable.

And above all- if one size will make you ride worse get the other. I can’t stand breeches that wrinkle over, so I tend to go tighter.

If you can read the date of the dime in your pocket, breeches are too tight. Otherwise, wear what is comfortable and you can easily ride in.

I can’t stand TS’s. I have never been able to find a size that fits me, and they seem to pouch/pooch/buckle in all the wrong places, and pull too tight in others. So not flattering. I recently tried the new FITS Megan breech which is their new H/J line (finally!) and measured in between sizes there as well. I originally went with the L, but it did like the TS did - the pooch/pull/tight in all the wrong places, but still managed to feel really good. So I exchanged them for the mediums, and when I got them and opened the box I thought “eeeeps” never gonna fit - they looked too small. To my surprise (and delight!!!) they fit like a glove, and looked like a million bucks!

I think the difference is the materials they use. They have some power-stretch something in the stomach area and the material overall is just super comfy without being too tight, while holding in all the areas you want held in. It’s like built in Spanx or something haha! Needless to say, I’ve now abandoned all efforts of ever fitting into TS, and am a lover of FITS! I’d seen their stuff before (I event as well) but while their FS breeches are nice, I mostly show H/J so they didn’t help me. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am with their new Megan breech!

The new TS have more stretch than old so they retain their shape better but also tend to be more clingy. I prefer them tighter, which for me still means the Trophy Hunters are too big in the waist. I would size down, because it is a pain to have to keep pulling them up even with a belt on–sometimes a lot of stretch works against you. The low rise TS are a little too tight in the waist for the same size but do have a more of a baggy thigh if you are more comfortable with that shape without the extra high rise. I haven’t tried the new Professional line, but if it’s the thicker fabric of the older 4 way stretch style then you may want to splurge on those in the tighter size because that fabric will be more forgiving.

I prefer tighter to looser, as my arse likes to eat my breeches if they are too loose.

I find the Pikeur Ciaras to fit me better than the TS Trophy (even though I love all the fun colors and they wear great). The Ciara seem to fit me the same in the hips/butt and are slightly tighter in the waist which I actually prefer so they don’t gap. The waist is the same height on me as the Trophy. I also think the Ciara’s are just slightly heavier fabric wise which can be a little more forgiving for the adult rider…

I’ve found that when breeches are too tight they give the wearer the dreaded camel toe. As long as you don’t have any of that going on I’d say they’re fine.

But(t), see my post too- sometimes we have to strike that balance between camel toe and a hungry butt. Oh the challenges and tribulations we face as riders. #horseworldproblems

My results varied. I tried on the Pikeur Ciara (26R) and TS Trophy Hunters (26R) and the TS Trophy Hunters were WAY MORE forgiving of cellulite/lumps&bumps than the Pikeur. The Trophy Hunters, to me, felt like heavier/sturdier fabric than the Ciaras.

Really? Huh. I just wore my Ciara’s today and fell in love with them all over again b/c they are heavier and have the less gappy waist. They do make them in a few different fabric types (and within those they have evolved over the years, kind of like TS) so I wonder if that is why we aren’t finding the same results?
