How to look slim and trim in riding breeches.

OK ladies, what have you found to be the best ‘smoothing and smooshing’ thing to wear under riding breeches? I’m looking for something that can work for my food basket (belly) and my somewhat chubby inner thighs. So something that is knee length or little longer.

Actually, I look terrific in riding breeches, I’m really asking for a friend of mine.

My er friend is a size 12 who would ideally be a size 10 but consumes too much beer and nachos.

I did a self-video the other day and happened to be wearing gray breeches with a black full seat. Against the black saddle, the full seat creates an optical illusion of thinner thighs. No advice on the smooshing undergarments though.

The ONLY way to LOOK slim and trim in riding britches is to BE slim and trim in riding britches.

Yes Marla 100 I know. I have been hitting the gym regularly since the end of September and doing aerobic and strength training. I am feeling stronger but would need to significantly cut back on food to actually be slim and trim- I’ve done this to some extent but realistically I’m probably just not motivated enough to go on any sort of low calorie eating plan. I’m about 10 pounds (15 max) over ideal and it is harder to lose as we age (I recently celebrated the 33rd anniversary of my 21st birthday).

I find anything “slimming” is too slick under my breeches and makes it harder to ride so I embrace the bulge.

The better quality breeches solve a reasonable amount of the problem but even they have their limits.

And then there are the baggy sweaters frowned on by most instructors.

I have one pair of breeches that have a broad black stripe down the side and a black seat, the rest being a black and grey plaid. And they have a high waist. You will have to pry them off my cold, dead body…

I think it’s hopeless .

But yes, the color block breeches that match the saddle are very slimming.

Great for you for working out!

This seems to me to be a very universal problem, regardless of size!

the material matters. I dislike “yoga pants” material and prefer a thicker feel.

Cute details done right (!!!) can break up the fabric and make you look trim- piping, embrodiery, pockets, etc. (this can easy go bad, so caution here!)

To your question of slimming garments- the only one I like is the Smart Pak one. Using non-riding shapewear never works for me, it is too restrictive.

Black, yes, lots of black!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Love this! I was a skinny stick for most of my life. I never understood how anyone could have trouble taking weight off. Then I hit a similar age and now I get it. The more frustrating part for me, more than trying to lose the weight to begin with, is not being able to retain any muscle. One day off and it goes back to jelly.

I have a pair of white breeches with a grey seat that seems to help when I look at photos of myself. Got nothing for the gut yet.

At my lightest and heaviest weights, I’ve always had a belly. I have surprisingly great luck with the bargain brand slimmers from Walmart. They significantly change the horse show photos and sales videos. Less jiggle and lumpiness under the clothes.

i’ve read good things about f.i.t.s wunderbreech. i haven’t tried them though. you could always go with spanx lol. goode rider has some compression tights that are FS and KP. i like them a lot, it’s like riding in leggings with grip.

@Mukluk If it makes you feel any better, I diet and run, also do some yoga, and while I’m thinner than I would be if I didn’t do those things, I still have a gut. So you might as well just hit the beer and nachos, I’m not sure it makes a difference! @tbchick84 you are so right about retaining muscle. Even when I work out like a madwoman, I always look “soft.”

I don’t have any great advice to give other than wearing clothes that fit. It’s so tempting to buy the smallest size I can squeeze into but sometimes sizing up actually has a slimming effect.

Spanx. Breathing is over rated. :0

Slim is highly overrated compared to enjoying life, nachos and beer.

That, and FITS Performax breeches that really do hold things in place with the possible exception of the muffin top.

According to a friend of mine, of course.

I do find my excess butt blob helps me sit the trot better.
