I thought network TV might have a problem with it. Cable says much worse every day.
I don’t think Big Ass Fans got their money’s worth from NBC.

well, they ran at least two commercials for them. Didn’t they say the name? The graphics don’t say it, but it is freely said on TVG:lol:
See my posts on the last page.
They got it from Baffert’s remark about Improbable needing a “big ass” race. No way that wasn’t a setup. Of course Bob has never been known for his self-censorship.
Yes, it was great, he smiled when he said it. I’m glad I was paying attention and didn’t miss it.
Yes - Broadcast vs Cable vs Premium Cable vs Streaming all have different levels of what’s considered OK. And sometimes context is part of it. In this case it’s a play on words and not directly referring to a person’s butt, so it’s a bit more ambiguous, but I’m still surprised they let it through several times. People like to refer to the “7 words you can’t say on TV” but in reality there is no hard and fast list like that, although you are certainly unlikely to hear any of those seven words on broadcast TV. There are many additional words that you will only hear very rarely or never. What’s acceptable can also change between dayparts - you can get away with more during the overnight (safe harbor) hours.
Even if the FCC won’t fine you for something, typically your network or company will have a Standards and Practices department which may be even more limiting with regard to what you can say or do. I’m sure they had a discussion about this one
I think it should have been agreed to before hand. When you take the sponsors money their name should be said.
I guess if Big Ass Fans is OK with it, then no harm no foul.
I just thought there might be a problem with NBC. Awkward for network TV announcers to say Big Ass Fans repeatedly, in the daytime.
It was announced by the race caller twice that I heard during the call of the race, on the replay.
Was it not said during the live call?
Not on the NBCSN livestream it wasn’t. I wonder if they were able to cut it somehow? There did seem to be a delay between the live and the live streamed.
It probably would have been noticeable with a gap or beep unless the delay was massive. Usually live events with a risk level for swearing are on at least a few second delay to get the beep in there or pot down the sound for that moment. But to take the time to actually edit it would have been a decent delay and not seamless. There’s always some amount of additional delay simply due to satellite, microwave, or internet transmission time.
Well, they didn’t censor the CEO, or Bob Baffert or the one person (NBC guy who said it only once), but I did listen carefully and the NBCSN people weren’t saying it. We must have been watching different broadcasts.
Just a note for anyone interested who didn’t get the email. USEF members are offered a 10% discount on Big Ass Fans.
