I got two fosters today

To me they look like they’re growing up. Their legs and tails are longer. They look like young cats instead of rolly poly babies.

They still have round tummies though… they eat really well. :joy:

The two little terrors went for their vaccines Monday and are up to 2.6 pounds already!

Unfortunately the dosage for everything went up as well and they are less than amused with their dewormer. And the gabapentin for Tabby must be terrible because he hates it!

Gabapentin just tastes so nasty. I accidentally got some on my hand once and like a dope licked it off and promptly regretted it. Took awhile to get THAT taste out of my mouth. glaaah

Why can’t they make tuna flavor for kitties? I personally would like pizza flavor lol

I think if the manufacturers had to dose kittens they might just do that!

Their antibiotics are cherry. So cherry followed by a chaser of gabapentin. Blech!!

They’re through with the dewormer at least. Got the last one tonight.

Is there a pharmacy that compounds meds in your town? My kitty Peach gets liquid gabapentin twice daily for spinal nerve damage and my local pharmacy can add either tuna or liver flavor (she prefers tuna!). Total cost for 60 ccs (one month supply) is about $33.

Ah ha, I had forgot the compounding route. I do know of a pharmacy- i think it was Roadrunner out of AZ - that does compound meds. Don’t ask but my cats just looovvveed Vaniila Butternut flavor. Go figure

I think I might like that but Snickers would be no way!!

There is. I’ll ask the shelter about that.

I finally asked the foster coordinator who was the boy and who was the girl because as they’re growing I kept thinking I saw little bits appearing on both.

They’re both boys! At least I’m not imagining testicles on a little girl. :joy:

Fat and fiesty. Only one more dose of antibiotics and they’re done.

They go for another round of vaccines tomorrow and they’re going to do another X-ray on Atoll.

I don’t know how much longer I’ll have them. Atoll has gotten so much stronger. He can do everything Cape (tux) does and doesn’t limp anymore.

I probably won’t foster anymore while I have Snickers. She just doesn’t like changes and I owe her peace and quiet. She doesn’t have to put up with them but she knows they are in the house.

Does this mean he won’t need the amputation? You’ve done a wonderful job & they look great.

No, when I took them for the last check they’re still planning on the amputation. :frowning:

She said the ends of the bone don’t meet where the break is and even though he’s better the vet still thinks it’s better to amputate.

If he were mine I’d get a second opinion but he’s not.

My vet once said to me that if a cat’s broken bones are just located in the same room together, they would heal—even if it was just a callous (is that the technical term?) holding them together and not actual bone.

Apparently they are about the best species to heal from a broken bone.

Wow! Impressive on their part!

Let the kids borrow the sedan and look what happens. :joy:

They kept Cape and Atoll and in return I brought home a solid black Chicken Nugget that has a fractured front leg and is either super scared or feral.

He’s about 3 months old too. I got him out of the carrier and held him and now he’s back in the carrier.

Unfortunately I have to give him two dewormers and Gabapentin later so he’s not going to be fond of that. They gave me some Churu to give to him afterwards.

Good luck! Can you wrap him in a towel for the meds?
