I have a little lost dog - Owner signed her over to neighbors

For the love of god, put ID on your stinkin dogs. Chips are fine. This little 3.6 lb black and white Shih Tzu has no tags and an unregistered chip.

Nobody has posted anywhere in my area about her and nobody is looking for her.

I can’t believe someone would dump a little dog like this.

I can’t keep her because she’s so tiny my GSD could easily unintentionally hurt her.

Believe :rage:
There are so-called people who toss animals out like they toss out garbage.
I hope you can rehome this one.
Someone cared enough to microchip, too bad the trail goes cold there.

I have her on FB, Pawboost, lost and found pets in my area and craisglist.
I also have a sign in my yard.

Not a single response.

Maybe if post your general location here, a local COTH peep might help out!

My house is the official local pet-dumping ground so I understand your frustration! We regularly get dogs with marks in the hair on the necks, indicating that the owner took the collar off right before abandoning them.

In one really sad case I was working in the yard when I saw a big, pricey pickup pull onto the shoulder and drop a puppy off 6’ from the road. They drove off and the puppy ran after them in the road.

By the time I was able to run down the hill to the road, another good samaritan had stopped and picked up the puppy. She said she would take care of it and find it a home. If I’d had to pick it up I would have had to turn it in to our shelter.

And you won’t…

I would also suggest contacting any local shelters and giving them a description of the dog and your contact information. That way, in the slim chance the owner calls the shelter looking for her, they can call you.

And BTW, she’s adorable!

Have you tried calling area vet clinics and boarding facilities? It’s worth a shot to see if someone recognizes the dog as one of their patients or clients.

What @chestnutmarebeware & @DownYonder suggest.
I had a very friendly, older Golden show up at my place. No collar. Overnighted in my garage, then next morning drove her to AC.
Where they told me owner had just called looking for her dog. Dog had come about 5mi to get to my place :open_mouth:

There are stories of dogs getting loose when someone is pet sitting. Don’t give up, yet.

One of the saddest stories I’ve heard was a dog that had been at the pound for a year. She was found wandering and scared. Owner was murdered. The family asked about the dog when they were told. None of them could keep a dog, so off to the pound she went. My MIL was looking fit a dog and we all fell in love with Misha. She was nine when she was adopted. She lived a good life for six more years.

She is darn cute.

My cat was thrown from a moving vehicle, fortunately the Good Samaritan who saw it picked up the kitten as he was then, and took him to the vet. Fate made me drop in to pick up meds just after he arrived, the rest is history.

My dog was found abandoned by the side of the road

I kind of get that one

There are people who just don’t care.

Not totally sure what it is, but pretty sure it’s canine, or a Wookie, maybe a cross  I would love to say, but she’s got a great personality, but she doesn’t. It definitely looked like she had been feeding pups, she probably ate them and sealed her fate.

That dog is so freakin’ adorable! Hope her owner is frantically searching for her!

I just brought her over to my neighbor’s house. They have small dogs. They will keep her until her home is found. (if her home is found)

I told them I will babysit when they go on vacation.

I agree with the above posters that suggested contacting the local shelters/AC/vets to make sure no one reported their dog missing.
Lots of people are not on social media and might have used the old system, of calling the shelter/AC/vet when their dog went missing.

There are also lots of reasons why a dog can go missing that have no nefarious reasons behind them.

If you have ever owned one of those pets that likes to escape, you would understand that.

Not possible on a holiday weekend. People should have tags on their pets. This could have been solved so easily…and…if anyone I know had lost a nice little dog like that, they’d by combing the streets. Nobody is looking for her. That’s the weirdest thing IMO.

Wookie? I dunno. That face screams Ewok to me. One that would definitely eat a stormtrooper’s liver.

Give it a little time. If she’s clipped like that, chances are someone will be looking for her at some point. IME, Shi-tzus that are dumped usually haven’t been clipped in ages.

I had a little dog I found running down the middle of the road. Her owner was out of town, her dad was dogsitting and didn’t realize the dog was gone for hours; he also didn’t know how to look for lost dog ads, etc. I put up flyers all over and when the owner came home, she found one and called me.

This is a great idea, not everyone is online, flyers broaden the chance of finding her person, if they are indeed looking for her.

It’s a holiday weekend. It might be someone’s relative’s pet that escaped.

One of my dogs decided to head home on his own once when we were staying with relatives who had shelties. Apparently they were scary and my dog wasn’t having it.

Kind of terrifying since we knew he had no idea where to go. We found him pretty quickly but if we hadn’t been keeping an eye on them he could have been miles away. (He jumped out of a fenced yard).

I think she saw the one I’d put up at a nearby gas station, but I had them at every vet office in the county as well, plus the local Humane Society and every bulletin board in every store I could find. I included a photo of her on the flyer. (I also did all the social media things, but it was the flyer that did the trick.)
