I want one! Can anyone make one?

A friend sent me this photo via text, so not sure where it originated from, but I totally love it. Anyone crafty that could make one with faux material that I could re-use every year?

YES ! Anyone ! Wire frame model is the most time consuming part ~

Yes ! anyone can make one !

First one must make the wire frame model ``` use heavy wire.

The frame is the most time consuming part …

Attach the greenery with lighter small piece of wire or green mini cable ties ~

*** many evergreens Yew bushes (as seen on the pic the neck of this horse ) are TOXIC … just a bite will kill a horse !

SO one must be careful in which greenery one chooses and where the horse head will be hung !

Yew is also ( though used for landscaping around many homes) Toxic to dogs ~~~

** Easiest way is to just purchase one for the front door

Your idea of using faux material is really good ~ IMHO !

I think the greenery is the artificial here. I think I’d try to go the natural route and also use an old broken leather halter for pieces and go more realistic with the eyes and nostrils leaving the pine cones brown.

My local rescue (well, local when I was in Colorado, anyway) was selling these to raise some funds. I think they might have sold out, but look around at who you’ve got nearby–perhaps a group near you is doing something similar?

There are a variety of tutorials on the web, if you want to try it yourself:

Lots of choices on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/search?q=horse%20head%20wreath

Or you can buy the wire frame and make it yourself:

Thanks, everyone! Didn’t even think to try Etsy or anything. Would definitely be better off buying a pre-made one, as I’m not very artistically talented at making crafts. (However, I could wait until after Christmas and buy a bunch of garland and other ā€œgreeneryā€ deeply discounted to try with.) And the idea of using real halter pieces is also good-- could use one with my farm’s name on a cheek nameplate!

Almost every day I get a message on Facebook that so-and-so has posted on my wall. I click the message, and time and time again, it’s a picture of THIS! LOL! I guess all my non-horsey friends see a horse and think of me!

I loved it (and reposted it) the first time I saw it, which was ages ago now. LOL.

I’ve bought several of these in the past couple of years, but mine were made with a styrofoam horse head with the greenery somehow attached. I still have the ones from last year, which I kept with the intention of making my own this year. Somehow haven’t gotten around to it yet … sigh.

Thanks for linking that frame…I am going to give this a try! Looks very cool!

I think you could modify design by using cut out horse head from plywood. Paint plywood form green. Drill holes in wood to attach evergreens. Trim evergreen to edges of horse head. Then decorate w/horsey stuff.

I’m actually in the process of trying to make one. So I’ll update if I succeed. Or not! I had looked at etsy but the ones I liked the best were the most expensive, so I decided to try my own. I found a few different DIY posts around the web, and kind of combined some to come up with my plan. I’m finishing the frame tonight so hope to cover it tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes…

Here’s mine.

It was pretty easy.

I just had one gifted to me, and it was done on that 1/4" thick plastic poster board that election type signs are made of, with the greenery glued on. Quite pretty, would be very easy to do!

You did a great job and should consider selling them as this is nicer than the ones I’ve seen. My sister is a crafty person and I tried to convince her to make and sell these since I live in an area where people would scoop these up. Sadly, she has not given it a try. I would totally buy one of yours though!

It doesn’t exist unless you post evidence.

Well, there’s my next project.

Thank you jenm! I used the guide on hawk hill. I drew a horse head freehand on a piece of cardboard and then shaped the chicken wire to the shape of the head. I then laid out the garland as she did in her guide and then used green zip ties to attach it to the wire. I used three strands of the cheapo green garland ($2) from Walmart so the whole thing cost less than $15 to make including the bow.

finally got mine done and hung on our gate, so attaching a photo. I think now that I have completed one, it will be easier to do more in the future, as I’ve learned from the first one. I used artificial greenery so I can reuse it, and I’m planning to stock up on materials at this year’s after Christmas sales so I can make more next year. I’ll start a lot sooner!

horsepoor - yours is gorgeous!:yes: I hope to do the same style next time - more dressage than QH. I especially love the poinsettas in the mane. So pretty!

Many of my friends have done the staple greenery to a wooden horse head cutout version and they’ve come out lovely.

Wow:applause:
You guys are amazing !!! So BEAUTIFUL :encouragement:
Y’all are inspiring me & this would be an excellent hobby for this pony:tickled_pink:
