I was awarded my Colors!

What an honor, I’m so thrilled, I just have to share. Last night, 2/6, was my hunt club’s ball in Rochester, NH. The food was good and the festivities were thrilling (silent auction, raffles).
Three of the hunt members were awarded their colors and I was one! I’m so honored. Wow. To think back to Fall 2007 when it all began…

I was at a Tom Davis eventing clinic where Tom told me to take my horse foxhunting, as it might really help her become more bold. I was scared to try foxhunting, although I’d always wanted to. I didn’t know anyone who hunted, and the protocol was intimidating.

I contacted the Wentworth Hunt and was met with a very friendly and welcoming feeling. In August of 2008, the beginning of cubbing season, Daatje and I hunted for the very first time, in the hilltopper field.

We were hooked. We hunted about 9 times in 2008, moving from the hilltoppers to 2nd field.

The 2009 season began and we were eager to join the 1st field. Daatje was loving it, as was I. I volunteered to be the new Dressage Show manager, as the previous manager needed a break. I joined the jump building committee and spent many hot afternoons in good company building coups for the hunt to negotiate in the fall.

2009 ended, and rang in 2010 when I was nominated to the board as a Steward. This will be voted on and official at the March general meeting.

I love my hunt club, and the people in it, I really do.

What a highlight to my Birthday to be awarded my hunt’s colors!

Congrats to you!!! Happy Birthday too!!

Congratulations - I’m really happy for you!

Bravo! My husband did not get the whole ‘colors thing’ until someone explained it like this: It’s like joining the varsity squad. Congratulations!

Happy Birthday and Congratulations!

Congratulations on your Birthday & your COLORS ! What a GRAND day for you !! ENJOY !!!

I like that analogy.

Hurrah, for you Daatje! What jacket do members with colors get to wear?

I believe I will wear my black wool coat with the black collar replaced with the grey color of my hunt club.

Thank goodness my Mom is a good seamstress!

congratulations!!!

congrats!

Don’t know much about hunting, but I understand, it’s a HUGE deal!

Congratulations!

Congratulations - but you are worthy of the honour for all the volunteering, jump building you do to make them proud to have you.

I would like to say you the happy birthday with all the blessings of God.

Congrats to you Daatje! What an honor.

Thank-you all! I am so glad to have found foxhunting and honored to be a member with colors. It’s unreal!

I am anxiously waiting for this blasted cold New England winter to leave so I can get on with things.

Congrats!

Congratulations,

I got my colors last year. Went hog wild… it cost me a bundle.

New custom Dehners with patent tops and insulated foot - $900
New custom Frock coat from Alexander James with tattersall lining and colored collar - $500
Hunt buttons - $175
Vest in hunt colors $75

Total $1650 - but man do I look good!

You can get by much cheaper than I did. I actually had a local seamstress sew my colors on my old coat while I waited for my new coat to arrive. Could have gotten tops for my old Dehners for much less but wanted new boots anyway. I actually had a hand me down vest from my mother-in-law but I had a new vest made anyway.

Now I have spares of all sorts. I have three weights of coats with my colors and a couple of pairs of boots and two vests.

Congratulations!! Very special feeling when you get them! :)

Looking awesome: Priceless…
