What an honor, I’m so thrilled, I just have to share. Last night, 2/6, was my hunt club’s ball in Rochester, NH. The food was good and the festivities were thrilling (silent auction, raffles).
Three of the hunt members were awarded their colors and I was one! I’m so honored. Wow. To think back to Fall 2007 when it all began…
I was at a Tom Davis eventing clinic where Tom told me to take my horse foxhunting, as it might really help her become more bold. I was scared to try foxhunting, although I’d always wanted to. I didn’t know anyone who hunted, and the protocol was intimidating.
I contacted the Wentworth Hunt and was met with a very friendly and welcoming feeling. In August of 2008, the beginning of cubbing season, Daatje and I hunted for the very first time, in the hilltopper field.
We were hooked. We hunted about 9 times in 2008, moving from the hilltoppers to 2nd field.
The 2009 season began and we were eager to join the 1st field. Daatje was loving it, as was I. I volunteered to be the new Dressage Show manager, as the previous manager needed a break. I joined the jump building committee and spent many hot afternoons in good company building coups for the hunt to negotiate in the fall.
2009 ended, and rang in 2010 when I was nominated to the board as a Steward. This will be voted on and official at the March general meeting.
I love my hunt club, and the people in it, I really do.
What a highlight to my Birthday to be awarded my hunt’s colors!
