ICE Raid At Delta Downs

I see a lot of this speculation flying around on the internet, that these plainclothes masked men who refuse to identify themselves or produce warrants are some sort of deputized vigilante militia rather than real ICE agents. In my opinion, these are conspiracy theories that distract from the real issue.

The egregious behavior and abuses we are seeing are being done by federal agents. This is the reality of how federal immigration enforcement agents behave when given cart blanche to ignore any and all legal guardrails. That might be uncomfortable for some people to acknowledge, but this is what state violence looks like. Their behavior is fully sanctioned by this administration and many of the tactics they are employing are specifically to prevent any of that annoying accountability for rights violations.

And btw, when ICE says ā€œno that wasn’t usā€ what they really mean is ā€œoh, actually that was BP, or CBP, or FBI, or DEA, or ATF, or IRS, or or orā€¦ā€ any of the thousands of other federal agents that have been tasked to interior immigration enforcement. That’s the real deputization that has happened. (Unless they’re just lying about it not being them, which does happen).

That is incorrect. He had on a face mask, described as a realistic silicone mask - not a ā€œplastic type Halloween mask.ā€

It wasn’ t a question it was a statement, and an accusatory one at that. So yes, an insult. And not the first time you’ve directed it at me either.

And Probably because I’m not seeing it on the news. I’m seeing it in real life. They have been in my area quite a bit recently. Things look much different in person through your own eyes than through someone else’s.

Did you see the photos and videos of him at their door? I did and it was obviously not his face and fake.

Maybe I"m incorrect but if someone is in our military their paperwork should be in order. So why would they waste time doing that.

it wouldn’t matter because ICE agents are federal law enforcement not a municpal agency. But when in doubt call 911 and verify.

Here’s a link to a news story that has the photo of him with the mask on. I wouldn’t be so quick to assert that the mask was ā€œobvious.ā€ Consider that it was late at night, the lighting was (probably) bad, he was wearing all of the usual trappings of a police officer, etc. I’m sure he also had a plausible story to tell about why he (a supposed police officer) needed them to open the door.

Not just federal. They’re making deals with counties and/or following local cops around and inserting themselves into routine traffic stops.

One woman’s husband, who was the passenger, couldn’t ā€œproveā€ he was a US citizen. Her driver’s license was treated as though it did (it doesn’t).

Got a passport? Time to carry it at all times? Disgusting.

Yes, I’ve seen the picture PostingTrot posted, and others. This was local to me, and Rep. Hortman was someone I greatly admired. But this is a red herring - the mask was realistic enough to fool more than one person ( see https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/16/us/vance-boelter-minnesota-suspect-complaint-takeaways). Impersonating a cop is dangerous - but if you can’t tell who is the good guy, that becomes dangerous for all of us.

There are ICE agent replica badges for sale on ebay, among other cosplay items like FBI ID’s and badges and Secret Service badges. I would not know enough to tell real ones from these cosplay items if a fake federal agent accosted me. I’d guess that some federal agency is covertly monitoring these sales, though.

Heck, I have a State of Georgia junior fire marshall’s badge from being a page in the state senate back in the 1950’s that from a a few feet away might fool a cowed and shocked person.

There has been more than one recorded incidence lately of ICE ignoring valid documentation.

ICE has taken in multiple people who thought they had their paperwork in order, who had been in the process for a decade or more and were going to a final citizenship hearing.

They’ve also arrested a few military spouses. And, for that matter, citizens, as well as veterans.

I think it’s pretty clear that for whatever reason the ā€œold rulesā€ and justice are no longer in play. I don’t think it’s safe any longer to assume someone in uniform is acting in good faith, or even who they claim to be. There are copycat incidents besides the tragic assassination of the public officials.

There are plenty of inexplicable stories.

It’s very clear that racism is in play as well, so even if your workers are citizens or otherwise completely legal, if they might look latino, and they might be in a place where agents might be thinking there’s easy shopping, probably wise to be thinking ahead about potential emergencies.

ICE doesn’t care who they nab as long as they meet their quota. The inhumane way they are treating people has resulted in at least one death. This elderly man was drugged and died during a transport. What did he do to deserve this? He lived and worked here for 40 years, paid taxes, raised a family, and now he’s a problem?

Interesting. And a good reminder about the warrant requirement.

But, the security guards at the gate don’t work for the HBPA, they work for the racetrack. So, I’m interested to know how this HBPA suggestion would work in practice. I also have a hard time believing a security guard could stop an ICE train—been there, seen it, it’s a shitshow. When ICE wants in, they get in, and a little 4x2 wooden gate with a person standing next to it isn’t going to stop them.

9-1-1 would not be able to verify movements of ICE, BP, DHS, FBI or other agencies. So, please stop spreading that as an option to verify ICE agents. The best 9-1-1 can do is dispatch PD to the scene and hope ICE will wait for officers to get there.

Given they don’t care to take the time to ID themselves properly, it’s beyond ridiculous to think they would wait for someone to call 911 and wait for the police to arrive.

Maybe or maybe not. It’s still the right thing to do. And every time someone stands up to them and asks them to follow the law, you never know what downstream positive effects that will have.

You can always call 911 and have the real
Police check it out for you. Plus a legitimate officer would have no problem with that.
