ICE Raid At Delta Downs

Respectfully no I don’t.
I’m very particular about those with whom I associate and I have no problem doing some checking if I feel the need. I do not associate with people with criminal records.
A passing acquaintance, like in public etc, is one thing and that usually can’t be avoided.
By associate I mean a friend, person who visits my home or I visit theirs or spend any significant time with.

And again with the Fox News insult.
How productive . I have already stated twice now and this is number 3 I dont watch Fox News.

When they’re paying them cash per day under the table because they’re illegal it’s unlikely they’re paying taxes on them. That’s hysterical.

I’m sure no one here would have called 911 for a possible kidnapping, as per the previous discussion.

I think there needs to be a link or some documentation to support this. As well as the 12 year old left alone on the street comment. That seems to have been COTH SOP in the past or is that only for certain posters.?
I dont recall “a friend posted it on fb” being considered credible

A boy in Boston, a girl in NY, and this story of a military vet’s wife being taken because her estranged mother missed an appointment and a judge issued a removal order for the entire family. The woman had been attending green card meetings, was married with two children, was breastfeeding one, and was not informed of the deportation order until Ice took her.

Thank you

Gee, I wonder why multiple different people have that same impression?

Because they are being rude and insulting. That seems to be a pretty popular insult here, not just at me.
No matter what they “ think” personal insults aren’t really necessary, are they?

So Annie - now that “credible news” links have been provided to you, would you care to comment on the ICE raids that are leaving children behind with zero thought to their well-being? Please enlighten us.

(oh… and here’s another example, just for good measure: https://www.newsweek.com/children-left-behind-inside-truck-ice-detains-father-california-2070907 )

The disposition of property in Southern California belonging to Japanese Americans who were interned was at a loss, sometimes a very extreme loss. There was a Mexican restaurant in Pasadena where the family who owned it had bought it from a Japanese family being shipped off to internment. The family who bought it paid very little (not the buyers’ fault, I don’t think, that’s just how it was) and the Japanese family who had a thriving nursery on that land were left with next to nothing. I wish I could remember the name of the restaurant.

In the mid 1970s, I worked with a Japanese American woman who had been interned as a child. The stories she told about her family and the people she knew in the camps were awful. She said they were sent to the camp with only the clothes on their backs.

ETA: I can’t believe I incorrectly used “that” instead of “who” three separate times. I’m going to have to turn in my Grammar Police badge.

I said Hispanic type names. I didn’t say they were did I? I also didn’t mention anything about the shade of their skin either. I also said I was watching the races. I guess I should have added I saw them in the winners circle, they were not very very “white”, though with the amount of time horsemen tend to spend outside even they can look pretty dark. By decent they were likely of Hispanic origin based on my observations, though I could be very wrong. Being racist has nothing to do with my observations or comments. I’m sorry if you assume so.

If you’re referring to the people I met in NYS, they are/were from South America and were working to send money home for their retirement, but still had to buy food etc when they were there. My daughter got to know them quite well over the years she raced there.

Also met a couple of really nice guys from South America one summer, who were there buying race equipment to bring home (so just there for a visit). We sold them a fair bit out of our tack trunks that we had doubles or triples of. They were very gratefully, especially since we didn’t overcharge them.

I don’t know how many times it’s been pointed out that many employers, big employers, DO NOT pay under the table. I believe you have a horse and dog business, or you used to along with your regular job. Are you projecting your business practices onto others?

It wouldn’t even be “hispanic” names per se but names of Spanish origin.

Which not everyone will have.

I know someone who is married to a groom who was originally from Mexico, although he became a US citizen several years ago.

According to her, the term he prefers is Hispanic. So that’s the term I use.

I don’t mean for the people I mean the last name itself, Hispanic (or Latino and Latina) is an ethnicity, the surnames tend to be of Spanish-language origin e.g. Rodriguez or something. That’s all - didn’t mean to be confusing, I was noting.

And not all Hispanic people have those specific surnames.

Why take things so personally? I was talking in the general “you” as in anyone. And why do you automatically think it’s an insult? That is interesting. It’s not an insult, it’s just a statement of fact. this information about undocumented workers bringing in billions of federal and state tax revenue (which is fact, not an opinion) will not appear on that entertainment news site.

And if some employers ARE trying to get out of payroll taxes then they should be the ones held liable. because I am sure it’s not only the undocumented immigrants that are getting paid in that manner. And on that point, how come the companies that are hiring these workers aren’t getting punished as well? because they probably aren’t then paying these workers minimum wage either.
