The NBC News story you cite does not use the phrase “illegal alien.” No legitimate news organization would use that phrase. They use the phrase “undocumented immigrant.”

The “illegal alien” was used in a quote by Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin. So NBC just quoted her. The paragraph that SLW posted even included “the statement said.” Come on people…

This 2019 Vanity Fair article indicates that despite railing against undocumented workers, the Trump Organization used them extensively at their golf courses and resorts.

He made exceptions for those of course, at least temporarily, telling ICE to back off on farms and hotels. That was right before this raid, so I guess a bit of whiplash for the horse industry folks that thought they might have been included in that. Then he took it back as he does.

I guess those details don’t “fit the narrative nearly as well” for some.

WTH? A 64-year-old woman was grabbed by ICE while working in her garden. How can this be justified?

Kashanian arrived in the US in 1978 on a student visa and later applied for asylum, citing fears of persecution due to her father’s ties to the US-backed Shah of Iran. Her asylum request was ultimately denied, but she was granted a stay of removal on the condition she comply with immigration requirements, a condition her family says she always met.

She has no criminal record but remains in Ice custody.

From the article: As members of the media trailed one ICE agent down the hallway, other officers made threats against the press, claiming that just a few feet from the court was a restricted area — even though they were inside a federal building and near a publicly-used elevator. Agents also took photos of reporters’ press credentials with their cellphones in what could only be described as an intimidation tactic.

Wearing ski masks and baseball caps, the federal agents came decked up in bulletproof vests, and some even wore sleeves to hide their tattoos. Some ICE agents physically fled out of sight when amNewYork aimed a camera at them.

There’s also a quote from the city comptroller where he says the judge told a young woman in the US from Guatemala who had filed an asylum application that she’ll be granted a hearing in February 2027 and then ICE detained her when she was leaving the courtroom.

How anyone can see these photos, read all this and still think “ah, yes this is fine” I don’t know. But they (g) are lacking in basic human decency and empathy, IMO.

More specifically, here’s what it says - only exception is in direct quotations:

illegal immigration Entering or residing in a country in violation of civil or criminal law. Except in direct quotes essential to the story, use illegal only to refer to an action, not a person: illegal immigration , but not illegal immigrant . Acceptable variations include living in or entering a country illegally or without legal permission.

Except in direct quotations, do not use the terms illegal alien , an illegal , illegals or undocumented .

Do not describe people as violating immigration laws without attribution.

Specify wherever possible how someone entered the country illegally and from where. Crossed the border? Overstayed a visa? What nationality?

People who were brought into the country as children should not be described as having immigrated illegally. For people granted a temporary right to remain in the U.S. under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, use temporary resident status , with details on the program lower in the story.

I don’t. There’s a difference between watching it and a link popping up on an internet search. I was wondering how long it would be until someone pounced all over that.

I googled “children left behind at ICE raid” and that was one of the articles that came up. In spite of the inflammatory headline, the “child” is 19 and legally an adult. But a headline of “adult not seized in ICE raid because hes a citizen” doesn’t fit the narrative they want to portray.

who cares if he drives. He’s an adult. ICE nor anyone else has no responsibilty to do anything with him unless he asks them to. He’s not a child.

the younger child was left with an adult. Not left alone. They have feet, they are able to leave. there is also public transportation in that area. And access to phones to call for a ride. Ultimately those decisions are left up to the adult. The 19 year old.
