ICE Raid At Delta Downs

and I will stand firm that people defending illegal immigration and speaking out against immigration enforcement are enabling the unfair treatment/slave-labor of these peoples in their working situations that make sure everyday life is possible for you.
These are the same people who have some wealth and expect Romero to have their horse groomed and tacked up at the barn for when they arrive, or hold him for hours on end at the show only to make sure their boots are fully polished before entering the ring; while Romero making 8.00 an hour and living in a run down trailer on the back 20 acres. These are the same people taking care of 5 million dollar racehorses on the backside living in a a single room with a bed and toilet with barely enough money to feed and clothe themselves.

The same people crouched over in a field of strawberries or lettuce as far as the eye can see for 10 hours a day in the sun. The guys milking 5000 cows in rotating shifts for 8.00 an hour with no days off so people can pay 1.25 a gallon at the gas station. The women sorting and packing eggs in some back room at 15,000 hen chicken farms because god forbid eggs cost 8.00 a dozen.

People that have employed such labor are going to be defenders of it. Not just because they appreciated their hard work eithic but because they got the work ethic for such a cheap price which allowed their business to profit or enabled their hobbies to continue.

This isn’t just a human rights issue, far far from it. But certain political demographics within this country will push it from that; when in realty many of those folks have a hand in the suffering of these immigrants.

How is rounding up and deporting every single illegal immigrant, many of whom have committed no crime since coming to the US, supporting fair treatment? Originally it was stated that ICE would only be rounding up and deporting immigrants who had committed crimes after coming to the US. You are now arguing they should deport every single illegal immigrant. Which is it?

How do you feel about ICE forcing these immigrants to let horses loose?

Then make sure they are here legally or on the work visa. This is what i voted for.

I wouldn’t believe anything this article says-out to discredit our ICE officers-this is what I voted for!

I already covered my thoughts on the ICE/horse worker issues, read my post.

I think every illegal immigrant needs to be held accountable. Just like they would be in any other country. Setting a precedent and holding to it; regardless of who’s in office, protects our country, its citizens, our economy, our healthcare and housing and so forth, but it also protects them from ever being taken advantage of in order to earn money on our soil. I think immigration and protecting our borders is a bipartisan issue and the backlash we are seeing right now is because too many people have been permitted to get away with it for far too long (both from employer standpoint and illegal standpoint).

I think you are missing the point that if you cross into this country illegally; you are in fact a criminal under federal law; regardless of who is the president. So yes, they are detaining criminals.

there are countries in this world where you are killed on the spot if you are caught. Certainly not saying we are to stoop to that level, but the immigrants being detained and deported are treated like any other arrest.

I am not missing your point. ICE raids were only supposed to target “the bad ones.” Those who had committed crimes AFTER coming to the US. This was the entire platform. You are specifically saying that ALL immigrants are bad and must be deported. This is a massive change in policy.

that is standard in every country, not just ours. I have coworkers who return to their countries regularly to reapply. If you wanted to become a citizen while working under the Visa to continue being a well-trained and valued groom; you are allowed to do so.

Many employers will help to cover the visa costs but again, none of these million dollar employers want to treat people properly and lose their precious pennies. If they loved and valued their hard work so much; they would help to keep them around. Not pay them 8.00 an hour to take care of six figure horses in a multi million dollar barn owned by multi million dollar owners. It’s a vicious cycle.

I am saying illegal immigrants are bad. They broke the law. They did not declare asylum at a port of entry. They are being unfairly treated and paid by employers so you can have cheap food on the table and cheap barn help.

Again, your specific opinion is a massive difference from the policy as it was originally stated.

Your definition of “bad” differs from many other people, even those of the political leaders you support, which is likely why you are getting backlash. The removal of ALL illegal immigrants from this country would have permanent repercussions and would change this entire country forever. We do not have the mechanism in place to get food out of the fields without them, and our legal process does not move fast enough to get them back into the country. “Rich horse people” excluded, your personal view on immigrants being criminals would have massive negative repercussions.

I don’t disagree that people take advantage of cheap immigrant labor, but removing all immigrants isn’t altruistic or often in their best interests, not to mention your observations about detention centers have been proven to be untrue, and dumping people back in their home country is possibly more harmful than leaving them in this country at low pay.

AND you are breaking the “no politics” law yourself
 so aren’t you
also bad?

This is probably the only thing I’ll agree with you on. I do think it’s a problem with exploitative American work culture as a whole vs. just because of access to immigrant labor. Thankfully the barn I’m at does not exploit laborers like that, but we also don’t have the sort of amenities that the modern equestrian seems to expect

Have you read the reports of people being detained? Not fed, watered and kept under humane conditions, according to reports.

Everyone has a right to due process or no one has rights. If you don’t have a right to due process, how do you prove that you are legally here or not. You are silenced and disappeared. People are being grabbed up while going to immigration court - with proper paperwork and trying to do it legally. This is what americans are having “a problem with”. Unidentified, masked, armed men in unmarked vehicles should not have the authority to grab up anyone. Full stop. They are the ones breaking the law.

How do you plan to prove that you are a citizen of the USA if you are at a show or stable or any other equestrian venue when masked ICE police swoop in?

I’m wondering if I need to renew my passport and always keep it with me. Or will my Caucasian appearance and driver’s livense be enough? I sure don’t want to end up on a deportation flight. Or even spend a night locked up in a jail.

Actually, EVERYONE in the US is entitled to due process according to the Constitution. Without a hearing they have no chance to show if they are here legally or not.

Also, they should go after the employers. If there is no demand, the supply will eventually stop, but as long as there is a demand there will be a supply.

If you’re going to post with all of your self-righteousness on the subject, you should at least get your facts straight.
The constitution does not require one to be a citizen to enjoy the protections it offers.
They apply to everyone inside out borders.

Just a quick clarification from someone in the Race Track industry in the area of Delta Downs. The workers just left the horses not necessarily because ICE demanded that they turn them loose. Some of the workers chose to just turn the horses loose. Some workers did have documentation and were released.

I agree with the statement that the trainers and/or owners are knowingly employing illegal workers to pay low wages and they should be held accountable.

Not all illegal immigrants are criminals, but some are and they need to be removed. How do you weed out dangerous criminals without arresting large numbers and just sifting through them?

If you don’t think the criminal aspect is a problem, then maybe try talking to the family of a victim of an illegal immigrant criminal.

Leaving horses as they did is so very wrong. Doing everything the way they do, is very wrong. Doing what they are doing, is very wrong. If you think it’s right maybe it will happen to you. With a close up view you might change your mind.

To leave the animals in that situation is flat out wrong. No good reasons, no good excuses for those ICEhearts.

My (limited) understanding after talking to an immigrant that I know personally, is that many “illegal” immigrants come here through the proper channels/work visas etc. It’s when those expire and there is still work to be done that complicates things. It’s not easy for an immigrant to navigate this on their own due to language barriers/lawyers/costs. I agree that employers need to better support their workers and not just continue to pay them under the table and hope. That’s bad for everyone.

With all that said, I don’t think it’s fair to assume that every immigrant that is here today, came illegally.

I can talk to my neighbor if I want to talk about criminal aspects. She deals with, mainly white, men that molest children. Can we deport them instead?

There are FAR MORE people who are victims of US citizens yet we don’t really care about that.

We don’t do anything about school shootings because we don’t care about that.

As Snaffle has stated multiple times, all illegal immigrants are bad and must be deported, and ICE for the most part seems to have this same idea. ICE doesn’t let illegal immigrants who haven’t committed any crimes once in the US go with a warning. Nobody is going to argue that people who are criminals should get to stay in the US, but you can’t ignore that the vast majority of crimes are committed by people born and bred in the US.
