If money was no object... which would grab your fancy @ Keeneland September?

Of the top 10 pinhook prospects at Keeneland September 12-25, which would you spend your $ on (if you didn’t have to worry about how much it cost?)

Looks like the list is based on purchase price when they went through the ring as weanlings (all but one through the Keeneland November sales last November.)

And, IMO, many tasty morsels. A few Pioneerof the Nile’s, a Tapit, a few Tiznow’s… me? I’d be looking seriously at the Scat Daddy filly (hip 254) out of a Classic Strike mare just because it seems this summer the Scat Daddy’s have been running well and the line is lost :frowning:

And your fav doesn’t have to be on this list but thought it was a good start :).

I have to see them in person. Although I don’t really have a good eye for the finer points, I do like a nice well proportioned well balanced horse that is not really big.

Hips 14, 20, 23, 34, 37, 43, 45, 64, 93.

You can see video of some of the yearlings (not necessarily the big pinhooks) here; http://thorostride.com/current-sales/182

Of the yearlings shown; the Sea the Stars colt #192! I like the walk of the Tapit colt #639
I like the Ghostzapper filly #701 Elusive Quality colt #911
Distorted Humor filly #1196

The More Than Ready filly#1362 has interesting breeding.
There is something about that Eskendereya colt #2503…I like him.

I think it would be inappropriate, on a public forum, to speculate about and mention my opinions regarding, what seem to me to be less than desirable aspects of any of these horses’ conformation so will keep those to myself.
It’s nit picking anyway. These are lovely horses.

I look forward to seeing LaurieB’s fillies sell. Good luck LaurieB!

DRF says sale has air of uncertainty.

I wouldn’t be buying for racing prospects but I would take any of the following for sport horses.

HIP 192: hate his roman nose but love how compact and balanced he is.

129: Maybe a little immature but love the chrome and the fact that shes a Malibu moon.

35: love the walk on her. Always a fan of speightstown. Shes lovely.

257: Love Tiznow and love this colt and his breeding. Hes so balanced. Huge walk on him too

349: Love this Arch Filly’s type and shoulder. shes lovely.

403: Always wanted a medaglia d’oro! lovely colt, not the biggest but balanced

444- Hunter lovers rejoice!

582- lovely tapit!

Where are you finding the photos?

Looking at the catalog pages I don’t see any?

Totally a novice with no $$. Was looking at the Scat Daddy’s (just impressed with how I saw some of his offspring run this year). Last year’s fee was $35K. Looking at the book 1’s that have sold so far, a nice investment for the pin hookers

In post #5 there is a link to some of them. Scat Daddy’s death in December of last year was a great loss.

Any Tapit filly

how much did the chocolate palomino TAPIT filly sell for? My goodness she was gorgeous. Seems like Tapit is throwing dark colored horses with lighter manes and/or tails. Perhaps a silver dapple gene in him>?

Thanks skydy. I think his premature death is partly what attracts me to him. It seems he’s had some nice runners this year so far (supposedly his fee was going to go from $35K in 2015 to $100K for 2016). I know he didn’t stand long enough to really prove himself which is unfortunate.

I would have to confess that if I had $$, I might be attracted to the Tapits because the history is there on performance but I’m more likely to be drawn to the more sophomore stallions such as Scat Daddy that are showing sparks of brilliance as a sire and take my chances that they don’t fizzle

Arrogate’s half sister by MDO in the ring now…

EDIT: Sold for $300K. I wonder if she’s a buyback? I couldn’t tell much from the sales live stream, but I wonder what about her had buyers less than impressed?

It will be noted if she was RNA.

crazy money for yearlings.

Yup, crazy money and big risk that doesn’t always pay out.

I notice that when I watch the races on TVG, at most of the larger tracks, horses that have gone through Keeneland have the Keeneland logo next to their name. And if a horse wins a nice race with quality company, you usually see an auction hammer fall if the horse went through Keeneland. Sometimes when ou see the card for a stakes race at the bigger “name” tracks 2/3-all of the horses came through Keeneland.

That’s why I think it’s fun to mentally play as heaven knows I don’t have the $$ to even join a syndicate for some of those youngsters if there was one even available.

Yowza… Beholder’s and Into Mischief’s half brother for $3M!! This one was a Scat Daddy colt

I give up. If money were no object I’d buy almost all of them.

What a lovely bunch of yearlings.

Calumet bought “my” Sea the Stars colt #192 for $250,000.

Maybe I should change the “rules”… you only get to buy 5

At this age, so much potential and such a gamble if they live up to their breeding and looks/conformation/walk/etc.
