If you board - how far is your barn? How often do you train?

I was always 45 minutes to an hour and twenty minutes away from my horse and went out 7 days a week. Now she is stabled two hours away (rehab facility, recovering from chip removal) and I only go out about 3-4 times a week. I hate it–all that driving after a full day of work is atrocious. I am hoping to move her closer to me soon. I did train the horse from training level to grand prix this way, but many days I was burning the candle at both ends for myself.

I have pretty much always been about 45 minutes from my horses (save for a stint in college when the barn was within 20 minutes). On a good traffic day, it’s 35 minutes. On a bad day (re: during rush hour, thanks DC!), it’s 1.5 hours or more. I try to go only when I know there will be little to no traffic, both there and back.

My riding schedule depends on my work schedule. I work 12 hour shifts, and because we have no indoor or lights, it’s tough to ride after work anytime other than the summer. So I vary from 2 days a week, to 5 days a week. Trainer comes once every other week.

Its anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half depending on if I have to deal with I4 or 441 during traffic. I usually ride six days a week on a normal week. If I’m hauling I still try to get out the days I’m in town.

10 miles/20 minutes away, and I usually go out 5-6 days a week. There is a barn 1 mile from my house - wish it would work for me, but it’s self care and no turnout.

I’m blessed with a great boarding situation…
12 miles / 15 to 30 minutes depending upon traffic from home/work
Ride 3 to 4 times a week
Mare lives on pasture 24/7 so this works for both of us

Urban area-
30 mins to barn, but it’s 20 if I go after work.

I am out at least 4x a week, every week, to ride.

The distance isn’t the issue so much as logistics- going right from work requires more organization then when I stopped home and was only 15 mins away (different barn, different work).

Most barns for me have been 30 mins away, the closest was 15. Longest I think was 45. I can avoid the highway during peak traffic, thank God. that is key.

35 mins each way without traffic. I ride 4-5 times a week.

I used to be 60 mins each way without traffic and rode the same amount. But I was getting SOOOO tired of the commute after 9 years of it.

I live in Chicago. But, I have the luxury of usually being able to time my rides so I mostly miss rush hour traffic, which lasts from 7:30-10am and 3-7:30pm.

I board my horse 1.5 miles away. I take lessons three days a week, and see him mostly every day, sometimes twice a day. I go down in the evening to feed him dinner, and I’ll usually take him for a hand walk, bring one of the dogs along for company.

6 months of the year (summer) lucky me lives 1 minute down the road. In the winter it’s an hour and a half and I get to the barn 3 times a week. 4 on a good week.

I live between 18-22 minutes from the barn (depending on the time of day). I ride between 2-4 times per week. Horse is in full training 5 days per week, either with my trainer only or in lessons with me. Then we go for a hack or do something other than ring work one day on the weekend (or 2 days off - weather and work load dependent). I am lucky to be able to go to the barn every day, even days I’m not riding to groom/graze/cuddle.

I currently have horses at two different barns, which is painful from a commuting perspective. My young horse is stabled at my trainer’s barn, which is lovely; it’s about a 25 minute drive from my (home) office. When I am not traveling for work, I am generally there 6 days a week, though I might only ride 4-5 times depending on my work schedule. My older horse is stabled at a different barn which is kind of in between that barn and my home/office, though not in a direct line - so I drive kind of a shallow triangle every day.

The added commuting between barn 1 and barn 2 means I seldom have time to ride my older horse during the week, which s*cks. However, the care is excellent and they have a really nice Eurociser plus great turnout, so he gets plenty of exercise. I’ve also allowed a couple of people there to hack him so that he stays in decent shape. All told, it is a 3 1/2 hour adventure to see both horses daily, even when I just ride one. Very hard to fit that into most workdays, but it’s my passion so somehow I make it work!

Too much time sitting in a car

So from my residence: 35 to 45 mins on a day without traffic.
From work normaly in traffic :1 hour.
Things are a bit better for the last month as Mme Mare found herself a junior rider to half leese, as some evening doing the commute is just a bit much.
The one thing is that since Mme Mare has moved to this place ( 1 year +) my car has become a veritable tack box, as before she was 20mins away therfore keeping things at home was easier.

About 15 miles so 30 minutes from my house I usually get out 5-6 days per week. If I leave right from work it’c about 40 minutes so just depends on time and schedule

I live 1 mile from work and 15 minutes from my barn. I work 50 hours per week. I own 3 horses, and ride 12 - 15 times per week (i.e. each horse 4 - 5 times per week). I know it this is crazy, and it means that my whole life is pretty much riding and work. But I just wanted to really dedicate myself to the sport for a few years and see how far I could get. I plan to keep this up for 3 years, and then cut down on the number of horses.
