If you were a horse for sale

I love this so much! I’ll add my brother:
Young 18 hand palomino Belgian stallion, shows potential as a work horse or cart horse. Quiet in all senses of the word (You’re lucky if he even nickers at you) but can be opinionated. No buck/rear/kick/bite, just stops and takes some convincing. More woah than go. Needs some work with being groomed as his mane is thick and naturally curly and he is not a fan of it being brushed.

Loves his stall and is a homebody. But when you convince him to leave the farm he doesn’t mind going out alone, actually prefers it. Good trailering, but does like to sleep on the horse next to him so dividers in trailer preferred. Can be a picky eater.

Blood bay sporthorse cross ,mare; 16.3hh. Will go for the right person but is known for some stubborn freshness. Happiest if feeling challenged but not in constant work. Loves outside courses but also enjoys indoor flatwork. Has potential to do low level eventing and dressage. Not 100% bombproof, but only does a sideways spook with a jiggity jog. No dangerous vices.
Gets along with most horses as long as they give her space (ignore the pinned ears every time you walk by- she just didn’t realize it was you). Not broodmare- don’t even try. Likes neck scritches and peppermints. Will get bored and sour if left in a stall all day.

Can I sell my kids?

Gawky adolescent with German and Dutch lines. Currently butt-high, but he’s filling out and should mature nicely. Much more go than whoa and always game for anything. Will make an excellent sport horse or fox hunter, but needs to be in a steady, supervised program. Great with bathing, not so good with clipping, very messy eater. Loses focus around females. Ground manners are atrocious in the barn, but cheerful and reliable off the property. Rads of left front available.

Half-feral native pony is your next Teddy O’Connor or gymkhana superstar. The stick says 14h, but rides and thinks like a 17.2 TB. Not a lot of focused training in the past 1.5 years, but clever enough to thrive in a program with experienced connections. Not suitable for beginners. Smart and sensitive, he will jump the moon or die trying, as long as your aids are soft and tactful. Won’t bathe, won’t clip, picky eater. Multiple rads of right front available.

For sale: 16.3 hand, WBX 12-year-old palomino mare. Well put together with a big, comfy stride. Can go in many directions, but likely better suited to enjoying the lower levels. Requires a confident rider, ideally intermediate or above. She’s well-schooled, tries hard, and isn’t nasty, but can have a spook, some anxiety, and occasional stubborn streak.

Easy keeper, lives in or out. Fine in a herd, though can be a bit of a loner. (Does need to be separated for grain feedings, though she doesn’t really need grain anyway). Never buddy sour! Stands tied for hours, great for the farrier (barefoot), tolerates the vet (if you catch her before she gets sight of their truck in the driveway). Has been clipped a few times, and bathes ok if the water is warm. Sound. Old surgery and some changes to the right hock, but hasn’t bothered her for years. Mid-high fours, negotiable to the perfect home.

SO: Do you want to have fun and bring home the ribbons? This is your guy! 16.2 hand, 16 year-old QH/TB gelding. Naturally competitive and athletic, this guy has excelled at every sport we’ve tried him in. Jumps, does some dressage, extreme cowboy, games, you name it. Hacks out amazing. Knows all the ring work but can get bored and lazy about it. Best suited for an intermediate and up, simply to keep up with his brain and athleticism (we’ve had beginners on him occasionally with no problems).

Easy to have around, this guy clips like a dream, bathes, and is great for the vet and farrier. Loves a stall with a nice deep bed at night, but goes out with a group no problem. Requires very light maintenance and some management considerations for allergies, but sound and with years of riding in him yet. Don’t miss out on your chance to own the barn favourite! Message for price.

Untouched feral ponymule. Athletic and smart, she will tear down the walls if put in a stall…very determined and busy all the time. Would thrive in rangeland or large open pasture. Good with other equines, but not trusting nor trustworthy around people. Perhaps, with the right person she would be a good working mule, but you would have to be smarter than she is to win her respect.

14h Connemara pony mare. This sassy redhead has plenty of chrome. Seasoned trail horse- she can ride all day and then some. Not much speed and 0 jumping ability. No spooks either- she’s been there done that, rock solid on the trail even when other horses spook around her. Extremely ring sour; only good as a trail horse. Prefers stall to 24/7 turn out. Rides well alone or in a group. Barefoot. Stands for farrier. May kick or bite vet if given the chance. Goes well in a hackamore; very soft and responsive. For experienced riders only. Due to past abuse, has trust issues. But once you win her over, she’s loyal as they come and will go through fire for you. One person only horse. Not for children or beginners! Will happily buck them off. Also will take advantage of unskilled handlers. Prone to nipping when she runs out of patience. She likes to be the boss and needs convincing other wise. Opinionated and stubborn but if you handle her soft but fair she’ll take care of you on the trail. Self loads in trailer, loves to go camping.

Thoroughbred mare. Aged, but still has some pep in her step. Not for beginners. Knows the ropes but requires a rider with tact. Will do anything for treats. Low maintenance, will vet.
