That looks like a creature with a whole lot of scheming goin’ on in his mind.
He’s a mini, that goes without saying
We used to call those forelocks Brillo pad ones.
Congratulations! I cannot wait to see photos of Dudley.
Congratulations to both you and Dudley! May you have many happy and safe years together!
Sounds like a match made in heaven! Nothing better than already knowing the horse you just bought is a perfect fit. Congratulations to you and Dudley
My Hackney pony had one of those. I have a picture of him showing before I got him, and his mane and tail are smooth, shiny, gorgeous, including his forelock. All I ever had was a frizzy mess for forelock and mane. Oh, well, it was fine for cruising around the neighborhood.

My Hackney has about 5 hairs in his forelock
His mane looks like I pull it.
I have not.
Ever.
It grows about 4" & stops.
Unlike his showring brethren with flowing shoulder-length manes & beribboned forelocks
It doesn’t seem fair, does it?
Rebecca
Thank you again, everyone. I really appreciate your kind wishes! Okay, I think I figured out how to post pictures. Thanks, Bluey, (though you may come to regret telling me!). I apologize for poor quality. They are not conformation shots and I’m obviously not going to make it as a photographer.
So here are a few pictures of Dudley, as he was enjoying (attacking) his hay.
He’s gorgeous! So happy for you!
Thank you!
Good for you, great pictures of your handsome and ok so shiny horse!
Happy for you, now you own a horse you have known for long, no surprises there, that is priceless.
Never mind posting many pictures, everyone loves horse and barn pictures.
You said he is 15?
He looks like a youngster.
Oh, he is very fancy! And look at the sheen on that coat!
Oh my… he is a hunk!
What a sweetheart! And so beautiful!
Thanks, Bluey. Yes, I was really, really lucky with my previous horse. I bought him when I was 23 (so long ago now!) and he was a 14.2 hh, 5 year old, green-broke Arab. I was younger and braver then, or at least more fool-hardy. But my sweet boy always had a good heart and a good mind. We worked through our issues and he became an incredible partner. When I lost him 21 years later, it was devastating and I didn’t even want to ride for a while after that.
I took a long hiatus, and in retrospect I guess it worked out because then my mother became ill and my dad and I were her caregivers. I would have been hard pressed to find time for a horse during that period. Then it was the pandemic. By the time things were opening up again, I had realized that I really missed being around horses and riding. I wasn’t sure if owning another one was going to be in the cards, but I found a lovely stable to take lessons at, and Dudley was the first horse I rode since my last ride on Smokey.
Dudley is an easy horse to love and grew attached to him very quickly. The barn owner / trainer and I became good friends too, and she offered me the lease opportunity and things have just gone on from there. But yes, I’m so happy to have my friend and Dudley, and to have another chance at owning a great horse. And I’m so happy that I’ve had time to really get to know Dudley. It is priceless.
He is 15, but here’s hoping we have many good years together!
Thank you, everyone. I think he is just the most handsomest boy-but I might be a tad biased!
I like how he talks with his eyes, he is really nice looking horse
