Bwahaha. I swear I hate autocorrect
Glad I wasn’t the only one.
QH has broken 32 boards and 2 4x4s scratching his big butt and then goes on a walkabout. I counted the boards I’ve replaced last night then drank a rum and coke.
As much as I miss my old high-maintenance boy who was PTS in May after a sudden bout of colic, I don’t miss the stress and the anxiety and the hope and the extra feeds and the medication.
As much as we love them and don’t want to lose them, there is a certain degree of relief mixed in with all the emotions after they’re gone.
This. It’s a roller coaster with these guys. I have had several serious discussions about my 12yo, and then he immediately comes in with minimal soreness and a happy attitude. And maintains that for weeks, despite me not changing anything.
I wish they could talk. TELL me what’s bothering you, or what’s helping!
Do you have just the two horses or are there 3 total?
I really do nothing with the retiree besides hose him off and feed him expensive (ish) meds.
And pay his bills and worry about him and wonder if you should be doing more and post on COTH about him and and and… The time you spend physically caring for him may not be much, but don’t sell yourself short by discounting the stress and emotional energy you invest. That stuff eats away at you and can sometimes be more draining than anything else. This is absolutely not a critique of your love and care for him—just a reminder to consider all that when you’re deciding how best to care for yourself too!
