In memory of November Rain

It’s so funny, when the thread started, I tought ‘yeah, right this horse went to the Olympics’ … Like many other said, I thought it was just some people who don’t know anything about jumping who marketed the horse like this.

I can’t believe that he actually went to the WEG in Roma and won some World Cup GPs and the whole nine yard.
I was working at the WEG in Roma as a journalist, so I actually saw him jump !!!

Wow, what a story.

I’m happy that somebody went to get him, he deserves a good home.

Thank you…

Please give NR a big pat for me! :)
I most certainly will, and, if you have the time and inclination, I would love for you to send me a private message with your name. I am putting together an album/scrapbook for him, and, would like to include a page with what you have written, and I would like that page to have an author.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with him. I enjoyed reading them, with tears in my eyes.

Dux is doing well

I am happy to weigh in on the part I know, but only if Tazer wants me to.

How is he doing, by the way?!
He was a bit stocked up this morning, but turn out seemed to help him. The naughty boy had a broken strap on the blanket that fits him nicely, so I switched blankets and went on a shopping excursion for supplies so I can do repairs. He was great on the crossties and enjoyed his grooming immensely. I gave him a new leather halter today and he was looking spiffy when I left. He is stiff, so I have grabbed some Cosequin, which I will start him with tomorrow.

And yes, please feel free to “weigh in” if you wish

Is any one else sobbing after reading this? I know I am an emotional sop… but had to go grab some tissues.
Oh yeah - TOTALLY crying.

You want to talk about a COTH Miracle Horse - this is it.

It sure would be interesting to see if COTH (the actual magazine) has any pics of him in his prior career!!

Tazer - God bless you, once again, for saving this Grand Old Man.

Copper1 - same thought I had - If Ferdinard, a Derby winner, could end up in Japan and eventually sold for slaughter, I believe anything can happen.

Lucky Dux - thanks to you

Sorry if the name does not please anyone, but I’ve known some pretty creative and smart people who claim to be a “redneck”. Dux is because he thinks he’s top man, literally. If he can be identified, then his true name will be considered, I would not deny him that.

He was quite happy yesterday, eating the apple I offered him when I asked him if he minded the name and if he wanted to come home with me.

And yes, his barn name will be “Dux”.

What I learned yesterday, is that he was in a lesson program and then sold to a dealer. He was then traded to the gal we just purchased him from. I am hoping to maybe back track a bit, and learn more about him.
WELL DONE!!

Oh, I’m sobbing here…

Tazer, maybe COTH would like to do a story on Dux and how you found him? I think it would be a great human interest story for them, and maybe include retiring the old campaigners. Something to make people more aware of what happens to our wonderful show partners when they get old.

Excellent suggestion, wholeheartedly seconded!!!

What a great story! Yes, I’d like to see it in COTH, or maybe a selection of similar stories incorporated into a book, with sales proceeds benefiting rescues.

It’s 2009, do you know where your old horse is?

I do agree that people need to be made aware of what can, and often does, happen to these horses. Don’t know that we’ll be reading this story in COTH any time soon though but it is a nice idea…something that can follow the lives of some of the great one’s and share their happy endings. In truth, I would like to see the unhappy endings shared as well to bring more awareness to what can happen to horses, despite their individual greatness or talent.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I think that once Dux is rehabbed and looking splendiforous, if Tazer is up for it, a formal retirement ceremony at HITS Saugerties would be entirely appropriate.

That would seem very appropriate in deed!!!

Posting these for Tazer and dunno’ if this will work, pictures of Dux the other day when he arrived:

Where did she go?

I had tears in my eyes as well. I am overly joyed that November Rain will have the retirement he truly deserves. Those pictures are adorable.

Tazer- please be sure to give him a hug from ALL OF US! And what is his name now?
