Individual Showjumping- Spoilers to come

Well, it’s over and they still didn’t jump the topiary dragon. I was sure we would see it today!

Yes, that’s the strategy because there was a pack going for the bronze, so speed was most likely going to figure in.

Since only two were going for the gold, it was more important to go clear. Bengston didn’t dawdle, he had to move along in case Eric went clear, so he had to move fast, but then had the rail. That’s always the advantage of going last, Eric just had to go clear within the time allowed. (But then, Eric never dawdles).

Splendid!

Love having the live feed from NBC.
BUT the commercials come on at the worst times! Can you believe it cut away in the middle of Eric’s round?
Many thanks to NBC for the opportunity, just wish there was a way to not miss crucial times during their sponsor spots!

when do they do the medal ceremony?

Authentic pretty much got to the same distance and was able to squeak over it. You could be making the same comments about Beezie right now but her horse was able to save that one for her.
Beezie did some strong half halts into the turn, McLain did not. That is the difference I saw going to the last fence. Maybe they had a similar distance, but Beezie was not going as fast or flat as MW when she got to the jump.

But then, if he had cleared it he would have ridden out the remaining strides to the timer…

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Eric you so deserve it!!! Canada is so proud of you!!

Eric has always been my hero…now everyone will see him the way I did!
YES!!! I have always supported him as well. This better shut-up all the $hit-heads who are still talking about his past. Can’t wait to see them at Tournament of Champions! Wonder if Hickstead will go?

SO AMAZING!!!

In the end, only one was getting that bronze medal so they both had to go all out. So let’s all be happy one of our two in the j/o got that medal. And Hooray for Eric- if it couldn’t be an American, I’m thrilled he brought it home to N.A.

I have Verizon Fios in Massachusetts and Comcast for my tv, and I get NO commercials at all during the live feed on my computer. Right now I’m listing to the marching band as they’re cleaning up the arena.

That sucks. Lucky for us (and sadly, for you) not everyone had commercials. It depended on what market you are from. Remember when you had to enter our zip code and cable provider when you logged in? A handful of that areas sold commcercials.

Nope, McLain did not have to be quite that reckless to the last fence as he already had a good time by taking the inside turn over the bushes. Beezie showed him how to do it the correct way.
Beezie had one person to go after her, McLain had three or four. Lots more pressure to be fast to ensure you stay at the top after your round (i.e. are as fast as you can be, not as fast at you need to be to win at that time) when you are in the middle. Have you ever ridden a jumpoff?

Well, I’m sure McLain and Beezie would have if it had been in their way during the jump off.

Congrats to this fantastic group of riders … what fun to watch this past week. So many great, consistent horses and riders. McLain and Sapphire were amazing throughout - what a bummer about the bad luck to the last fence. Beezie and Authentic were amazing as well. Hickstead was awesome. Ninja is such a cool horse that I have never gotten to see before. What a great Olympics! Go North America!

PS - thanks NBC! Now I can get back to work.

That battle for the bronze was a bunch of riders taking risks to win it. Excitement at its best to see the best figure out what to try to… beat the best! That is what makes showjumping so exciting- any one of those people in the jump off could have won the bronze- just came down to ballsy riding and a bit of luck. They all went for it- Beezie just did it the best!!!

Yowzers- hope they show that on TV.

either way this was a wonderful show of horsemanship and raw talent! Congrats to all the competitors for making it to the final round!

I will be there too! First time at Spruce. Would love to see him ride Hickstead as well! If not at least at the Royal.

Yup, and and McLain certainly made the right turn through the brush look like an eq course ride - not nearly so smooth for Beezie - but a great horse and good luck made it work, c’est le jump off, right!

Regardless, BOTH are great riders and I think they schooled the world on how to ride a jump off at least on this day!

But I am very happy for Eric and Canada, if it wasn’t going to be one of our US riders, he was my next favorite. Congrats Canada!!! (and damnit, I was looking forward to Eric tring that turn because you know he would have if he needed to!)

Wow, the feed just showed closeups of the medals - those riders are taking home a big chunk of metal in their suitcases!

It’s more than that even. Mr Akro and I obviously have the same zip code and cable provider, but he got commercials on his computer and I didn’t get any on mine - not sure what the deal actually is.

And here they come for the awards.

lol, Eric must’ve found his helmet! He has it under his arm!
