Interest in Ladies foxhunting clinic weekend

Va Hunting License?

Do those of us coming from out of state to hunt with ODH need a Virginia Hunting license?

Yes, you will need a Va hunting license. I think we had a link for dept of inland game and fisheries website earlier in the thread. JSwan will have the info memorized, too. The license isn’t expensive and supports the conservation work.

License

Is it the 3 day, non resident for $46?

I checked with JSwan, our resident hunting license guru. She first of all wants to tell you thank you for getting the license. Yes, that is the correct one. Since we don’t hunt with firearms, the Sunday hunting ban doesn’t apply to foxhunting.

I thank you, too for asking and getting the license. You help the sport when you do, and our MFH’s appreciate the consideration you made.

Quick note before I drift off - staying up much too late…

Thanks for purchasing the license, guys. I know many of you are making an expensive trip to hunt with us, and a license for out of state residents isn’t cheap. But… thank you. Thank you very much for supporting wildlife management, conservation, and our game dept.

Looks like the weather is going to hold up and we’re all going to have a terrific weekend hunting in the Piedmont.

chiming in!

Weather report for friday is 70!
Expect muddy footing altho’ no rain in immediate forecast. ODH cancelled today because of the 3 inches of rain we’ve received over past few days. Our rigs would sink.
I’m off to the Blue Ridge Hunt point to point this afternoon. It’s in upper 50’s, sunny. Wunnerful spring weatha!! Hope car doesn’t sink!

Blue birds sighted

Spring is on a roll!
Right now I have a blue bird wapping into the window. He is furious that the one in the window is in has the audacity to be in his territory!

Usually, it is just the cardinals and the mocking birds that are so fiesty. It is going to be fun to hack out later in the day and see what changes there are along the trails.

Last night, one of the horses came in smelling of wild garlic.

Time to remember the tick repellent for everyone, too…

Come on sun!

I’ve given up watching the forecast. Yesterday morning the 10 day forecast for Warrenton was SUN, SUN, SUN. Somehow by mid day rain snuck in for Wed. and Friday. I just don’t care anymore! Either way, my mare and I are coming down for a weekend of fun… wet or dry - it doesn’t matter.

If we hunt, FABULOUS. If we don’t, I think we have enough activities on our social calendar to make the 4.5 hour drive more than worth it! I can’t recall off hand, but what are those of us arriving on St. Paddy’s day doing???

I can’t wait to see everyone.

Here’s what the girls (mostly foxhunters) did yesterday afternoon… I don’t think there are any photos of the tailgate… but I’m sure you can imagine.

I planned on taking my uber quiet 5 year old gelding… Instead I had to take my super hot recently recovered (from an abscessed cellulitis) mare. Thanks to foxhunting I think we’ve overcome our fears… Don’t worry, I won’t be wearing my checkered breeches, blue helmet, or purple safety vest if we actually get a huntin’ in.

Pleasantmeadow,
I like your beach outfit! Queen B looks like she handled it well this year.

There are some photos that you took of the island foxes that are great fun. I hope that you will put up a link to them…

Down here, the frogs started cheeping last night.

I rode over to the base of the neighborhood mountain and followed a trail along one of the streams. The creek has dropped in water level from it’s flood stage. It is back to looking like a Sierra Club calendar, with the water rushing over the rocks. There are mini rapids and waterfalls along the way, gurgling and splashing. The water is clear and I could see the little fish dashing about.

The only footprints were from the deer. I saw a huge owl and a flock of wild turkeys. Lots of song birds have arrived on their way north.

General schedule:

I’m sooo excited! I hope we have weather like this past weekend. Do I need to bring anything else besides beer and soda for the hunt breakfast? Is the rest of the weekend BYOB? Whicker, are you set for dinner Sat. night?

I havesome stuff to drink but byob is a sure way to make friends/influence people/have exactly what you’d like to drink, and plenty of it.
I keep iced tea going all the time/hot tea too, of course coffee and some beer and wine but bring what you like if you wish.

Saturday dinner party

If Betsy/Hunter’s Rest thinks that everyone will be ready to party at 7pm, we will go with that. I just want to still have daylight for people to find my place.

Those of you with chairs are welcome to bring them along. I’m not sure how many there are of us, but there will be a houseful, at least. If the weather is as lovely as I expect, we will be out on the back porch, too.

Our chefs are creating an eclectic fun menu. There are elements from Turkey and New Orleans, among others… Those of you who want to bring some parts of the meal, please email me.

Will ODH definitely be hunting Saturday? If not, when will we know? I’m coming anyway, but just want to pack the right stuff.

We won’t know until 7 am Saturday morning if ODH (or any hunt in the world, for that matter) will for sure hunt that day.
I’ve told the masters that I have up to 20 cappers coming and am very eager for us to go.
Hoping so.
Pack your hunt clothes.

OK, thanks. I guess I can play “dress-up” even if we have a mock hunt…or at least practice tying my stock

If we end up with a mock hunt, we WILL dress up and we WILL do a formal inspection – a la pony club rally – and we will JUDGE THEE. (all of thee.)
; o )
'S what foxhunters do best.

Formal attire note

Remember that the tiaras are not worn in the hunt field…

They are for the evening soiree!

Tiaras? Gah! I can’t even get my hair to stay right much less a tiara!

Smart Alex, I think I’m going to wear my feather headdress and fur stole. So you can borrow my tiara.
