Is anyone else finding CoTH forums periodically unreachable?

Periodically, every day, for the past week or two, the forums won’t load for me. Sometimes if I ignore it for awhile and come back to the tab, it will have pulled up and I can continue on. Other times it freezes and I have to close my browser and start over. Start over later, of course, when it decides to work again. This is happening at the office, at home and on my smartphone. Three different internet providers. Only the forums. Just now I tested it and tried to open it on the office computer and my smartphone simultaneously. After several minutes, both of them came up with it at the same time.

Or is it just me?

Me too and it happens sometimes after I have “discussion forums” up when I try to view a thread on a given forum. Mac/Safari.

Oh yes. Either I can’t reach it or it freezes and won’t load threads or comments. It is very nearly unworkable.

I find this on my PC and android phone on home internet and phone on coffee shop internets as well. When other websites are loading easily.

It is not just you. It is discussed in the thread here about forum glitches. They know about it and are working on getting us a new platform to hopefully fix all of the problems we have had lately.
You can read more about it in that other thread.

Yep having the same issues whether with Windows or Safari.

It seems like the cloud hosting software used for the forum portion of the site is improperly configured, resulting in unresponsive server errors and time-outs. You can bounce from server to server in the cloud simply by clicking anything from next page to one of the forums or a thread title.

Yes, most of the time since last week.

Hopefully is the key word. Switching from vBulletin to another format will be a major production and come with its own set of new problems. Or complaints from members who don’t like the change. I say this as someone who used to own and administrate a vB forum. It was not the size of COTH but I learned a lot about how the structure and “buttons” work. What’s been happening since the crash is either a configuration issue or because the server can’t handle the amount of users. My entire site shut down once because I made a tiny error in a DIY upgrade. It took $20 and 5 minutes for someone more knowledgeable to figure out what I’d done wrong.

Thanks you all! I thought I was the only one going crazy with the CoTH website not opening up for me. I use an older IPad (Safari) for my web browsing and I was really hoping not to have to consider buying a new one. I appreciate this thread!

I was just able to open and post on two threads within 5 minutes so not going to jinx it and will put this here… Maybe it’s just me but thread titles get bumped up and down pages without showing any new posts when there might actually be 10 responses. Hours later the thread will say 12 responses when it’s actually ballooned into 3 pages of drama. LOL

@Moderator 1 This could be as simple as ensuring all components are set up for the same time zone.

I’d say it has to be one or both ^. If I leave mine sit in the background to chug away for as long as it takes, it will come up with an error message about the Server being unreachable. I’ll have to remember to snip it next time. Yes, in general it is a little slow to turn pages or save new posts, but nothing like the time it is taking to enter in the first place.

I’m working to get clarification on how things are proceeding at this point, and I’ll update you all when I find out more. For what it’s worth, I’m making sure they are aware the site’s performance is currently garbage.

Thanks, Mod1.

It really is painfully slow, and it’s getting worse. And I am usually hardwired into my router.
