Like the title says, is there such a thing? I can only find KPH and MPH. Is there an app that can be converted to meters per minute? I’m always ridiculously slow on XC and stadium and could use a more constant reminder to check my pace.
Do you have an iPhone or Android? I have an Android app that can show your current speed in mpm.
Android
SpeedCheck on the App Store.
SpeedCheck says it’s an app to test internet speed.
I’ve had trouble with that too, so I looked up what the mpm for each level equates to in mph. If anyone knows of an app that will measure speed in mpm for an iPhone, I’d love to hear about it, though!
BN (350 mpm) = 13.1 mph
N (400 mpm) = 14.9 mph
T (450 mpm) = 16.8 mph
M (490 mpm) = 18.3 mph
P (520 mpm) = 19.4 mph
I (550 mpm) = 20.5 mph
ooh, thanks for this. I found speedcheck, but the reviews say it’s very buggy and a battery hog. Maybe I’ll try a mph one and just use this translation.
Let me try and find my altered version of a GPS speedometer – has the exact MPM so you don’t have to memorize the conversion.
I have been using Equilab. It’s not perfect but has some fun features. I don’t see how getting mpm in real time could help much (how do you check while galloping?). But this app will give mpm (it’s Dutch I think) and you could use it for each individual canter if you wanted to be specific.
So, some tech savvy person needs to invent a GPS eventing watch that reads out time AND speed in mpm (would that be competition legal?)
I also use Equilab, it will give you a fun little graph of your speed throughout your ride, although mine is in feet/min. Not sure if that can be changed in the settings, if not, you can just do the math and convert it.
It’s a neat app for free. Not perfect, but the data is both useful and entertaining. It also seems to be pretty easy on your phone’s battery.
Yes you can get metric in Equilab.
Would not be legal. I don’t think using your phone at all is legal. You can use it for training to get a feel for speed though.
Aww, too bad … so much for my million dollar idea, ha ha. I knew using an actual phone would probably be considered unauthorized assistance, but I wasn’t sure about something that would just give you your speed in real time!
i got a Garmin GPS watch that works well. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/164366 does time, distance, pace/speed.
ok…the old school way. Measure out however many mpm you want to learn, say 400. Then ride it, until you get the feel for what 400mpm feels like under saddle.
Hard to believe I know, that you can actually teach yourself this without needing technology
Take miles/hour and multiply by 28.6 to get meters/minute. Done.
Otherwise, I did what Jealoshe said. I just rode and rode until I could feel the pace on whatever horse I rode. I still never use a watch outside of training.
Doesn’t that work better for galloping courses and lower level courses versus some of the newer more technical courses where you can’t really get a consistent speed?
