Is there anything cool about my horse's pedigree?

Is there anything cool about my horse’s pedigree? I figure race enthusiast would know more about breeding than I.
I am bored at work…
I know he was not very successful on the track but has found his place in the hunter/jumper world and as my best friend.

Thanks

Well personally, although I’m not a big racing bloodlines follower, I think it’s interesting to see Alydar in there. I haven’t seen that too often.

Thanks, I just goggled “Alydar” . According to one website his owners allegedly broke his leg for insurance money? That is horrible!

Allegedly. I don’t think anything’s been proven…

You should read the book “Wild Ride” by Ann Hagedorn Auerbach. It’s about “the rise and fall of Calumet Farm” and the first part of it is about the night that Alydar broke his leg. It’s really sad, but REALLY interesting. The whole book is.

Alydar is actually quite common as a grandsire in horses right now. I tend to look pay close attention to Alydar in exactly that spot (grandsire/male line) as I think they tend to be good, athletic movers with a great jump and a mind that is cooperative but likes to be ‘asked’ to do things. I own two
Granddam goes back to Double Jay, I have one-a those too
Interesting bottom pedigree–

You mean besides the fact that he traces back to Seabiscuit?

Alydar is pretty common in a pedigree, but that’s pretty rare.

Wow! Seabiscuit and Alydar! How cool! And like FairWeather commented my horse definitely is athletic with a “great jump” and he definitely has to be “asked” to work. Maybe those blood lines don’t lie after all. I have ridden numerous TB and this one is special because he has a great mind and is really brave and nonspooky. I would take a million more like him.

He is the chestnut in the first picture in my thumb nail.

Thanks guys!

Coolio, missed the Biscuit, but there he is! (VERY COOL!)

Here is my Alydar (one of them)

'scuse the position, he surprised me with that jump
we usually are much more reputable,

Fairweather! You’re horse is super cute and jumps great! He is a chestnut like my Levi as well. You look great in the picture! (you don’t even want to see the pictures of me when I take my leg off over the fence and Levi cracks his back.) You’re not kidding Alydar does produce nice jumpers!

Here is one more link to my Alydar guy:

Wow, what handsome boys these guys are!

I had no idea Aly was so common as a grandsire these days.

I may have to look around and get one!

My new mare is an Alydar grandaughter. She’s coming in the Spring. She bowed at the track, so will get to be a mommy instead.

Maybe I’m blind, but I don’e see Seabiscuit in that pedigree - is he another generation back?

We have and Alydar great-grandson as well - he’s only a weanling, but he seems to have the same head as Fairweather’s boy and the same engine (butt). Here is our boy “Alystar” and his pedigree:

http://www.pedigreequery.com/index.php?query_type=horse&search_bar=horse&h=ALYSTAR2&g=5&p=0&f=1&l=

and the link to his pictures:

He does have a great personality and is very quick and cat-like. We think he is really cool and he is headed for a racing career and then, hopefully, a show career.

Alydar is definately making his mark in the showjumping arena. I heard that another son of Alydar was accepted into one of the warmblood registries after his jumping ability so far superceded that of the non TB stallions presented at their inspection. Eclipsed the warmbloods at their own game. I have had three draft cross half TBs by a son of Alydar (not the one accepted by the WB registry, but another one) and they have all be quite spectacular over fences and are regularly defeating WB contenders at the A circut shows here. So any link to Alydar in the pedigree of a show horse prospect is definately a big plus. Incidently, the mare being by Aurelius is interesting, there is a breeding farm in Washington state who apparently set about collecting Aurelius mares as their core breeding stock. I am not sure why, because I don’t know much about him. But they obviously thought they did, and have had a certain amount of success with the theory.

Another Alydar grand-child

My mare is an Alydar grand-daughter too! I got so excited when I saw the clips of him before the Derby the other day. I ended up with her by chance, she was half starved and 15yrs old when I bought her 2yrs ago. I was so excited when my friends and I deciphered her tattoo and discovered her great breeding!

Here’s her pedigree, she has War Admiral on her dam’s side

Seabiscuit was a GELDING guys, from an early age. No horse “traces back” to him.

They may have relatives in common and there is a Sea Orbit on there…but too late to have anything to do with the Biscuit who raced much earlier then his '56 foaling date. Fact he raced in the very late 30s to 40 as I recall…was by a horse called Hard Tack.

What? No, he was a stud. He stood in California after he finished racing. He sired 108 foals, according to wiki. He certainly was NOT a gelding.

incorrect…click on Sea Orbit’s dam (Sea Flora)…she is a Seabiscuit daughter - yes, THAT Seabiscuit :).

Might want to refresh your memory on that one. He wasn’t a gelding.

I have a young mare by Wheaton (Alydar x Terlingua) and I agree 200% on the “good athletic movers with a great jump” and 500% on the “cooperative but likes to be ‘asked’ to do things”. What a fun horse to ride.

Edited to add: I had to take her to the vets at Fairhill last year and someone there asked if she was a warmblood. I was highly offended!
