Is this Devoucoux Oldara good deal or no?

A 2010 plain flap no blocks calfskin Devoucoux Oldara for $1,000? Does anybody know what it would cost to have blocks added? Not overly concerned with having a padded flap just blocks. Thanks

Don’t know how much it would cost to add blocks, but, yes, that is a VERY good deal. Might call Devoucoux with serial number and make sure it’s not stolen ;).

Definately not stolen. There are 2 of them sitting in my local consignment shop that have been there for months. The owner rode with Eric Lamaze and he made all his clients get no blocks no padded flap Devoucoux’s. The serial numbers are good and they say Canada at the bottom. The shop owner told the owner she’d have to take them back by the first of the year due to the lack of interest. Hence the price

Yeah I would double check that the tree isn’t broken, that it’s not stolen, and that you can take it on a short trial. But that’s a nutty great deal.

My horse loves the Oldara. I’d pick it up if I were you!! With blocks and in pristine condition I had a friend who sold one for $3500!

you could even just add a velcro patch and buy the Bates/Wintec blocks

I have it on trial until Monday. I think it’s the plain flap and seat size that’s making it a hard sell. They were originally priced at $4,000 then was marked down to $2,000. I went yesterday and was talking to the shop owner about them and she said she’d make her my offer of $1,000 since there has been zero interest in either of those saddles. To my surprise the saddle owner accepted! Hopefully it works for my horse.

Blocks/no blocks=meh. Plain flap=really hard to sell. Is that what you want, a plain flap? Or are you planning to have that added. That might be a pricey change.

I was looking for a Crosby Equilibrium which is plain flap with blocks, but came across this saddle instead. I found a never been on a horse Equilibrium for sale locally but came upon this saddle by accident while making a trip to the consignment store. I can tell you my tush prefers the seat on the Devoucoux over the Crosby. The Devoucoux was pushing My budget which was under $1,000,that’s why I was asking exactly how much roughly it would cost to add blocks.

That’s a great idea!

I believe Bevals will add blocks for something like 300 dollars. I’d be worth it in my book.

Probably still a good value even if you add a padded flap. Just be aware that with a plain flap the resale value is fairly chancey (note that this sat for a year unmoving before you came along).

Here’s the saddle…

I agree with almost everything said above - although I wouldn’t alter the saddle with Velcro to make it compatible with wintec products. In my mind that would significantly decrease the resale value that is already not going to be great. It’s a different market for a Devoucoux and a Wintec, and a MUCH different quality!

I purchased a used County with damage to the seat and knee pads , and paid around 1,000 to have them both replaced, the work was done by a woman in CO and it was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. I almost cried when I got it back - I’m sure she could add blocks - and I would think the cost would be under 400. Devoucoux also does very reasonable repairs on their own products - so contact them as well.

I’ve ridden in two different Devoucoux and I think they are by far the best. I’m in a forever search for a used one. If it fits your horse and you I would go for it - you will probably keep it forever.

It’s a good deal if you want a plain flap saddle. It’s not a good deal if you’re looking for resale. Devocoux or not, plain flaps are a deal breaker.

No, go to a saddler that will match the blocks to the balance of the saddle & your leg.
Ask around for references & get quotes, discuss leather quality & block shapes & fill options.
A matched suitable block will add value to your saddle.

Certainly consider the Bates/Wintec blocks (they may be your cheapest option) but they are designed for a very different balance saddle.

gorgeous saddle! well worth investing in nice blocks.

If only I had the horse that fit  can you take some photos of the underside, showing panels & gullet channel?

I have seen quotes considerably higher than $400 for adding padding to a flap. I guess you can shop around.

That is a lovely saddle for $1,000…if YOU want plain flaps, buy it. If you are at all concerned with selling it some day, don’t buy it, because most folks will want the padded flap and blocks. Personally, I’d go for it, but I prefer minimal to no padding and blocks. Comfy Devoucoux seat with plain flap sounds pretty cool to me!

Have you ridden in it yet without the blocks? Do you feel you need them? If you can afford the $1,000 and like the saddle for you and your horse and don’t anticipate really needing to get much money back when/if you sell it, it is a good deal, popular flap setup or not.

Short video of me riding in the saddle. I felt so balanced in it and it seemed to fit my horse as well.
