It seems True Colours has been holding out on us!

the most painful part about this thread - well, almost the most painful part - are the spelling errors in the title of the thread -

Neddy Devine - yea of only 8 posts - could you make the spelling corrections? My red pen brain is on overload ;);)
TC appears to have “been” holding “out” on us - though I am not sure I want to be part of the “us”

I am hard pressed to know why this mare should be a broodmare - based on available info - “breed the best” is a mantra I subscribe to.
I don’t think anyone has any delusions of these colored TBs making it to the Olympics. I agree that you shouldn’t breed JUST for color, but I am still a sucker for a nice buckskin and even went and looked at one a couple weeks ago. But the bottom line is, it seems that these flashy colored TBs SELL. Whether they sell to a SERIOUS competitor nobody seems to know or, more importantly, care.

Sadly the colored TB breeders probably sell as well or better than the “serious” breeders. To each his or her own.
But how do we know that?

I don’t really want to make this thread about TC’s sales, in particular, but I’ve seen more than a few coloured TB babies for sale at rock bottom prices in recent years. Maybe its a marketing issue, but it isn’t like they are all flying off the shelves  Realistically, we won’t get any answers because no one, that I’m aware of anyway, is out there gathering the data.

Sorry about the typos earlier. I had posted from my phone and when I went to edit, I couldn’t figure it out.

A tech nerd I am not.

I have looked at that photo trying to figure out the gait and I am still stumped. The posture says pacy walk but the angle of the hind fetlock says trot or canter as it seems to be very low to the ground. Either that or there are some suspensory issues?

Lions and tigers and bears, OH MY!!!:eek::eek:

It is a VERY pacey walk. The legs are not in position for anything else. It’s not a picture at a bad time. It’s a bad walk. I will grant that maybe she doesn’t walk like that ALL the time but in this picture she is pacing, so it is something she does. Breeding expert, I’m not but given what I do know, I don’t think I’d pick this as a broodmare.

I think that in serious sport the boldly marked ones are often not taken seriously. This past summer my friend competed a painted gelding by Fidermark and one German FEI judge actually wrote “unfortunate - he has very good gaits” on the test

I think she looks about 300 pounds over weight. Would like to see her again once trimmed down a bit.

I saw this mare once - in person - many many years ago and liked what I saw then

If she gets here and my recollection is flawed and she is built ass backwards, cant move correctly and has not one single redeeming feature that says “Breed Me!” she will get backed, and I know of several people that I can contact that would love to have her as a trail horse, pleasure horse, hunter, dressage horse or whatever - depending on where her paticular strengths lie

I will NOT breed her solely to produce some funky strange looking dilute foal and then hang a high “For Sale” sign on it to boot …

The picture angle is absolute crap and cant tell you anything except she is a “different” colour. Wait til she gets here, her mane gets pulled, she gets weight on her if she needs it or weight taken off if she needs that instead and THEN I’ll stand her up and take a few pictures of her. And then at least she can be honestly and truly assessed

And for good measure, if we have good footing, I’ll even get some video footage of her walking and trotting so we can lay the “pacing” issues to rest as well …

TC-I hope you (and the mare of course) prove everyone wrong because I love when that sort of thing happens.

And I’d like to add that your reply was just about the nicest I’ve ever read in response to what some might consider borderline nasty criticism.

I don’t seen that very often on this board.

A friend of Florentine Gold (or Blondie as I like to call her).

The nice responses or the nasty criticism?

I’m not passing any judgment on a poorly-shot picture. The mare has a good home now, and she will be well-looked after whether she is bred or not.

Ha ha. I think she’ll look a lot better very soon, and I can’t wait for the after photos. There are a lot worse looking broodmares out there. Coloured AND solid.

I would love for those who can see glaring, gawd-awful faults from this poorly angled picture, list them.

Just so we have the record when we get a real conformation shot of a filled in horse

Beautiful and I knew right away she was Pucchi. Shes a sabino but just to be safe I would check for the lethal white gene before breeding to an overo. Should be OLWS negative most likely.
That color always seems pretty dominant. I used to have one who was splash and sabino. He produced tons of color but sometimes would get a deaf foal if they had a full bald face. I don’t think sabinos or frames have this problem.
I also like that your mare is bay, should get some cute foals!

The mare is Dominant White. Posssibly also Sabino, maybe also Splash. Highly unlikely to be Frame. But most assuredly DW

Thank you JB, couldn’t have said that better myself. Good luck with whatever you decide Donna. Bottom line is the previous owner knew you’d give her a safe place to land. Good for you.

I’ve caught pictures with exactly this type of foot fall before and it was a true walk, weird picture. Unless she arrives and paces or is gaited, I wouldn’t worry a bit. Just a goofy picture, like the sorrel overo in the picture below it.
Look at the canter picture on Panoramic Black’s website, the foot fall is identical.

Colour or not, pacing or not, it’s an ugly picture.

We’ll be looking forward to seeing better pictures in the spring in a more flattering position/angle/everything.

Could be a picture at the canter.

It’s not the canter. It’s a walk
