Who has these?
Last year I rescued one from a high kill shelter. He has the markings of a Jack Russell (hes not full blooded) but every thing else, body type, temperement, you name it is Italian Greyhound. I had him DNA tested (not that it made any difference I was just curious 
) and the largest percentage is IG. Hes a great dog, gets a long with my older JR and loves other dogs. Hes very nervous with different people tho and anything that is different. Once hes comfortable with you hes fine but hes litterally will jump into my arms when he gets scared. It was actually the reason that I adopted him because he was so scared and unadoptable and would run to the back of his kennel and not let anyone catch him.
Other than that he is and incredible dog that I love to pieces. We are luck to have found each other!!!
He came from a horrible abusive situation so Im sure that this has something to do it with it but just curious about others experiences with this breed etc.
Italian greyhounds tend to be insecure, vacillating, “soft” dogs, that will act scared, even if never abused, if they live in situations they don’t understand, like in a pen in an animal control shelter.
Don’t assume abuse just because your dog is shy and a scaredy cat, it is how some iggies tend to be.
Iggies come in many markings, some similar to JRT, called “irish marked”, so yours may be fullblood.
We had one a breeder raised in her dog room in x-pens, that was socialized properly, given time with people in the main house, etc. but was not raised in a household and she also had her moments where she rather run and hide.
Ours was a wonderful dog and great for therapy work.
She also was the smartest dog to learn obedience I ever had, from many I started.
The breeder assured me she didn’t have any training, but that dog just took to it right off and was a star.
Iggies are wonderful dogs for quiet households with sensible, kind owners.

i have done tons of research on Iggies (i love that nickname) and he has so many of their charateristics. Kind of skittish with new things etc. Very slow to mature lol. I dont know if this is one either but he squeaks when he is excited like when I come home and he sees me or when I go to my parents he gets really excited to see them and the other dogs and makes this happy noise. He runs just like a grey hound tho and is built exactly like them. You can really see it when you are walking him or hes out playing none of the other dogs can keep up with him.
He is crazy smart as well. He catches on to anything I teach him and never forgets it. Hes a big cuddler too.
Im definately a fan of these dogs now!!! Hes great!!!

love the breed but have never owned one but I have done a bit of reading on them, from my reading they tend to get cold easily so they do need doggie clothes and I have read that due to that they can be difficult to housebreak due to outside weather making them want to come in before they are ready
I do think they are adorable and just adore them but not sure if they are the right breed for me
i have read the same thing about getting cold easily. mine when its really cold has a fleece newmarket and then a weather beeta that hes wears (yes i know its overkill but i dont care it makes me happy lol). funny enough he never want to come in and handles being outside when its wet or cold better than my jack russell who is a princess. he has been that hard to housetrain and hardly ever has an accident and usually gives me signs he needs to go out.
Mine came at almost a year old from the breeder and with the warning it was not housebroken and that the breed is very hard to housebreak.
We didn’t have any trouble at all, but then, we had other dogs and a dog door and, of course, didn’t give the new dog the run of the house right off, until we were sure it was realiable, kept her confined and took her out a million times a day.
She didn’t mind the cold at all, or the snow, but she didn’t like the rain.
Then, we don’t get much rain here, so it didn’t matter too much.
They are harder to housebreak than most, but not impossible.

i was thinking whippet or some type of other terrier too especially with his coloring. when i got him and took him to a vet to get neutered and shots i had them do one of those dna tests and it was overwhelmingly Italian Greyhound. After researching the breed I totally see it when he moves (especially when he runs) and all of his little quirks.

love the pictures especially of the one where he is jumping. mine is like a little jumping bean. run and jumps in my arms is i ask him too. its our party trick :).

Guess that iggy it is then, they sure are a bit different than most other dogs.
Ours sure turned heads, once in a parking lot, sticking it’s head out the window, a fellow walking by was asked by his little boy what that was and he answered “a ferret”.:eek: :lol:
You can see the toy I thought I had hidden way up there, when she was not in the room.
I don’t know how she knew it was there, but she sure was trying to get to it, if she had to climb to get there.
mine guts his toys that have stuffing in them. im talking within 15 minutes there is stuffing all over the house but he takes so much pleasure in it i just let him do it till it is totally lifeless :lol:
i usually stick with his nyla (sp?) bones or rawhides but occasionally ill surprise him with a stuffed animal.
he also love to his his rawhides and bury them. who knows how many are scattered around the house that hes hidden. sometims ill get in bed at night and find them under my pillows.
awww his clothes sound cute.
regarding the stuffing in toys, my heeler/pointer mix does the same thing, then he carries the shell around and plays with that
i used to blanket my horses so i figure as long as they wear their mini horse blankets and i dont put people clothes on them that is ok 
Well, if you were at WEF or KY the past few years, you have probably seen my Iggie… And here he is on his off days, with friends….
When I get home, I’ll tell you all about my experiences with the breed. I love them but will freely admit they are not the dog for everyone.
definately not for everyone i do agree. they take a very PATIENT and understanding owner. never planned on getting one. actually when i got him he was a rescue and rehome but i couldnt leave him where he was. after having him for 2 weeks though i had a friend who was going to drive down and meet him and possibly adopt him and i had to call her in tears and tell her i didnt think i could let her go. she just lauhed and said she knew that was going to be the case all along.
Iggies are really neat dogs. They are good at obedience, excel at lure coursing, and are like living works of art or china. They are terribly sensitive to cold, and love to roll up in blankets, throws etc. They have a relatively high metabolism and eat a fair amount for a dog their size. They are a true sighthound in minature and can be quite shy and nervous in new situations. Most of them really dislike kennel life. They prefer their family and their house. I really enjoy them and am glad you found yours. I am not surprised he was out of his mind in the shelter.
you are so right. his favorite thing is to make a “nest” and either lay on me or right by me. he has a lot of energy but if its nasty out and we dont get out much he is totall fine and doesnt get crazy.
