Oh no! I am so sorry! Definitely cute, tho.
So sorry!
Bummer! Hope everyone is OK and the rest of your season goes better. Next year!
Well good news it was $218 instead of $300
Every person I know this week has had a shitshow week. Mostly just the weather; but they did move up classes over an hour when it specifically said on the prize list they wouldn’t start before 3pm on Tuesday.
Does anyone know when the big Jumper Classic starts tomorrow afternoon?
In the past it’s been around 2:00 - but on the website they list this:
&D BUILDERS GRAND PRIX RING- 7:30 a.m.
802. $7500 1.30m NAL/SJHOF Jr/Am Stake - II, 2(b)
803. $10,000 1.40m SJHOF Jr/Am Stake - II, 2a
2:00 PM
852. $200,000 FEI 4* Upperville Classic - 238.
I will be going with several friends so we’re trying to confirm 2:00 - TIA!
While this is a shame I had to laugh at this dry characterization of the Virginia hospitality in the show office
Can anyone speak to the conditions in spectator parking with all the rain? When I left after the Welcome Stake on Friday, it was a little muddy but manageable. I wanted to watch the GP today but I also don’t want to get stuck in the mud. For what it’s worth, I do have 4WD.
Horseshowsonline is saying GP at 2:10pm
Great, thanks!
We’ve also heard 2:30.
Flashback to the time many years ago that I had to hop in my friend’s secondary truck and drive it from New York to Upperville after his primary truck got so mired down in the mud there that it needed a repair of some kind before he could drive it home. Lol.
Parking in the day parking for trailers was a mucky mess yesterday on the jumper side, but I got out after our division without needing to put it in 4WD so you’ll probably be OK today. It got hot yesterday afternoon and dried the roadways etc up pretty well.
My mare was a little over the heat and politely said “no thank you” to the very solidly built hack line (she hasn’t jumped much at shows since coming back from injury), but was such a good girl for her first time out aside. Hopefully the first of many!
I’m in Upperville right now – at my boarding barn – we got quite a bit of rain and it’s still raining lightly – I’m assuming everything will go on rain or shine, yes? God knows we’ve had our share of thunderstorms at this event over the years! I know they’ll stop for thunder and lightning, but if it’s just rain – Still on schedule?
Storm just passed through but rings are drying out and the show will go on. This afternoon is scheduled to start at 2 with first horse at 2:10. They haven’t updated that so I’d say they’re still planning on that start time.
Cool, thanks for the update!
I saw your under saddle yesterday and thought she was adorable!
Thank you! I was so so happy with her, she really does like being a show horse and is quite comfy to ride aside. Lack of steadiness into contact at the trot hurt us in placing undersaddle, I think–I could see a lot of headwag on the video friends took. I think we need to do some playing around with bits, since her everyday one is a KK Ultra, so the pelham (or double!) we need for sidesaddle is lot more bit than she’s used to. But we’ll get that sorted out and hopefully be back even better next year
I had my horse DNA tested and registered him with the IDHSNA, but that only works if you know his sire and/or dam. I knew my horse’s sire but his dam was unknown. I’ve done the Irish classes a few times and the judging completely baffles me. My horse was partbred and hadn’t fully developed when we took him. But a friend took her RID - won the in-hand class. In the U/S not sure what kind of movement they looked for but the jumping was a disaster. Most of the horses refused, ran out or jumped horribly, except my friend’s horse who jumped perfectly. He went from winning confirmation, being a good mover and the only one who jumped well - got 4th or 5th in that class. I was told by an local Irish breeder that it was his confirmation in the U/S that moved him down. So odd.
I mostly wanted to do it for the novelty of doing something different. My horse’s strengths do not include his conformation or movement (though he has a very good canter!) so we were never going to win anything, but I thought it would be a cool experience.
Alas, all attempts to get his papers failed. I even tried to track him through JFK! Unsurprisingly they didn’t call me back.
If it were me I would much prefer to stay away from a series of shows at the same venue for weeks or even months at a time, I hate the whole concept. I loved the days when my area had a show every week at different farms and estates. I don’t even like spectating at shows anymore.
It was fun when I did it even though the judging was perplexing. When I did it, they had a pro-rider get on each horse, hack it around, and then discussed their ride and the horse w/ the judge. So that was cool aspect to the class.
