Jill Burnell Gray Fox Farms - FACTS THREAD
If I understand correctly that is a photo of Romantic Star and Aloha as they were found

http://www.ratemyhorsepro.com/userfiles/images/Burnell5.jpg

So what becomes of them ? Does she get Romantic Star and the mares she starved back? Since she pleaded guilty does she have to foot their vet / car bills ?
Oh, holy crap. How in the world is she allowed to have horses again???

I too am very surprised that Jill Burnell , Gray Fox Farm, is allowed to own horses after this guilty plea.

Then again, I am not an attorney and have no knowledge of the ins and outs of plea agreements. After seeing those photos,I think that the PTB had to have done the best they could to stop this person.

Four years is a good stretch of probation. Hopefully the local probation/parole officers have more time to keep up with their charges than ours do… Ours seem to lose track of paroled felons…released from prison… that are wearing ankle monitors…:eek:

According to the linked article the horses that were seized are still in the care of animal services.

A total of four horses, including Romantic Star, were seized from Gray Fox Farm and remain under the care of animal services.

One of the many terrible/upsetting things is that the woman doesn’t NEED those classes in horse care–she knows how to properly care for a horse and can talk a great game. She just doesn’t care enough (or at all) to actually implement that knowledge. In one of the other threads, someone posted a blog post or something that Jill had written, where she went into equine nutrition and supplementing and you could tell she does know a thing or two about horse care. She can’t even claim ignorance, which IMO makes it even worse.

Such a tragic, sickening situation from start to finish. Those poor sweet horses. I just can not imagine that, even with the mountains of evidence against her, JB is still allowed to own horses. I’m scared for them. :frowning:

Speechless :0

My only hope is that she fails to pay the restitution, and maybe then she will get into some real punishment. It seems like a likely scenario to me actually. She hasn’t paid anyone else, so why pay the courts? I didn’t think there was any money left anyway, and didn’t she pay her lawyer in horses?

" An unknown amount of restitution will also be paid by Burnell for damages."

Let’s hope it is a substantial amount to cover the expenses occured by Marin Co…I would love to know how much she got for breedings of RW in Canada… I doubt she earned anything in the past year.
I am sorry to hear RW will return to her as soon as September. He very well looked after in Canada… I just hope she drops the ball and the Marin Co vet is on top of things…She should not get a second chance on anything!

Maybe someone should send these kind of posts she made to those Marin County people who are in charge and explain exactly that she has knowledge. Could be used further down the road if needed…

WOW, that is so alarming. That she could write such a post and not even heed her own advice. To me that is clear evidence of a sickness. I think it is going to be very important to keep her guilty plea always in the public to prevent her from forming another debacle of a horse business. Especially since the authorities didn’t seem capable of doing their job to the full extent.

A lot of similarities with this case and the case in Kentucky, the Kate (Katherine Leigh) Ostermeier thread http://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/showthread.php?434251-Kate-(Katherine-Leigh)-Ostermeier-Situation and THE PROBLEMS WITH THE LAWS FOR ANIMAL CONTROL in our country. It is heartbreaking that such an obvious case (J.B.) goes lacking for serious prosecution.

KO had also publicly put herself out there as an advocate for equine wellness. Some people like the idea of horses but are not horsemen. I don’t understand, in a business where your reputation is everything, why they persist. We all need to keep this in the public eye, keep posting.

As a buyer I would be extremely careful of breeders that don’t feed well either on purpose or by carelessness. It indicates a thoughtless approach to breeding that probably crosses over into every aspect of their program to include mare care and breeding choices. - Jill burnell’s own words from that blog

Unreal. I can’t believe she got off almost scott-free. Disgusting. Just disgusting.

Yup, failure of justice.

Umm, not to make light of the situation, but you haven’t traveled much, have you? Animal welfare slipping through the cracks is a big problem in more countries than just the USA. It doesn’t even exist in many places - places where humans are considered expendable…

but since the USA are always ready to police the world, maybe they should start at home…
