She’s not a dumb bunny. You’d think she’d be well aware of the literal gift she’d been given in that lack luster conviction and making darn sure not to rock the veritable titanic they gave her.

She is not dumb but she is also self centered enough to think that her world is just fine and no one can do anything to her. I am guessing that is more the case here.
Does the recent arrest have anything to do with her past plea deal? Or is this a new case filed against her? I do not think it is related to a failure of her probation requirements because it says reason: animal cruelty, not probation violation.
I am so sorry to hear that the lease is ending this fall and Redwine will be returned to Jill. I admit that I think the leaser’s actions have been shady but I have seen recent photos and he looks lovely. He is in regular work and being fed. It must be so hard to send him back to hell.
That is sad poor guy got a little bit of time being well cared for to have to go back to her.
It must just kill the people at Ashland Farm to know hes going back to this ,
http://www.ratemyhorsepro.com/userfiles/images/Burnell5.jpg .
It seems like they genuinely love and care for him.
I wonder if her arrest was just an official arrest in connection with the current convictions.
I got a phone call from Ashland today asking me to explain why I characterised their dealings as being shady. I figured if they were unsure that others may be as well. We can argue about whether doing business with a known criminal is shady and or enabling etc but we can not argue about using someone else’s property to advertise your horse. To take my horse’s photo without permission and use it in an ad making it appear as if I condone the whole Jill Burnell fiasco is the epitome of shady. Hope that clears up any confusion as to what I was referring to.
It occurred to me that before accusing someone of being shady that perhaps a simple phone call could have rectified this. I understand your worry of looking like you might support Jill Burnell but I believe this picture was chosen to attest to the quality of the offspring that this beautiful stallion produces. So be flattered!
Redwine is receiving professional care by people who have produced and raised quality horses for many years and I understand that the care he is receiving is superb. Maybe a more positive outlook would help in coming up with a solution for the future of this wonderful man.
Meh, if you are using a product of my breeding program to advertise your breeding program I’d like some kind of kick back or royalties at the very least. Of course that would all be AFTER seeking my approval for the ad… All this is hypothetical, of course, because it wasn’t my horse being advertised

Should I be flattered by my choice of cars if he were to steal that and drive it around town? Give me a break. The solution is don’t do business with criminals or people who do business with criminals. Problem solved.

I won’t use adjectives describing business practices but the ownership of the stallion was clouded for a time. People with moral objection to supporting the owner were a bit dismayed over the issue. Glad the horse was treated well and hope that continues in the future. But maybe if Jill didn’t get any breedings under her ownership, she would see the benefit in selling RW. As long as she can hide ownership, she is able to continue doing business with RW. That is probably the biggest ethical dilemma to this.
VLF - it is completely unacceptable to use someone’s photo of their horse in an ad without getting their permission! Long, long ago my foal’s photo was used in a stallion ad but the stallion owner contacted me and asked permission. That is the professional (and I believe legal) way to handle it.
Really inca! I was not suggesting that it was a free for all. Maybe you can read my post again. I suggested that a simple call to the farm would have resolved the situation. I don’t know all the details but perhaps it was a misunderstanding. Unless you know something I don’t know? Until then… let’s take a deep breath and shake hands.
You really don’t get it do you? It’s called ethics. An ethical business would call ME, not steal my stuff and hope I don’t notice. Ironically, a matter of time after I insisted they take my photo off their ad, they did contact me and ask if they could use her likeness again. So I guess we can give them credit for not stealing stuff twice but they definitely lose credit for not taking the hint when I said I in no way wanted to be associated with Jill Burnell and regardless of their statements to the contrary, I knew they did not own him and Jill did the entire time. Back to ethics again. That poor horse.
It is pretty evident from Laurierace’s post that Redwine’s “connections” did NOT get her permission to use the photo of her horse. Your post states that "I believe this picture was chosen to attest to the quality of the offspring that this beautiful stallion produces. So be flattered! "
To me that statement says that you think that Laurierace should not be upset that a photo of her horse was used without permission. Then you later stated that she needs to “unwind a little.”
I am just pointing out that the professional thing to do is get permission BEFORE you use a photo of someone else’s horse in an ad. The person who owns the horse should not have to call the farm after they see the ad to straighten out a “misunderstanding.” It’s pretty black and white - you either obtained permission prior to using it in the ad or you didn’t. Laurierace states clearly that they did NOT get her permission. That is very unprofessional behavior.
I can actually not really beliebe that people who feed and treat a horse well can look at themselves in the mirror in the mornings syending a horse back to known problems.
But sogar so good - i recken no matter who is really the owner of this horse - at the moment he is at least in hands that care for the horse…let’s hope it stays like this. Again what is the status about RS ? Did Rhonda (?) ever try again to get him ?
He made it clear that he was heartbroken about sending the horse back but since he does not own him, despite many claims to the contrary (I have screenshots of those claims too if anyone wants them) he doesn’t have a choice. I have heard estimates ranging from $250-$500k asking price, no one with a brain would pay that for Redwine so back he goes. Hopefully no one will breed to him and that price will drop. I just pray she feeds him in the meantime.
Why would Laurie call them? don’t you think THEY should have called her instead and asked permission to use the picture? By the way, hers is not the only offspring picture Burnell and her friends have used to promote their “program”, never asking for authorization… that in itself is shady!
Do stallion owners typically buy digital copies of the stallion’s offspring and then use them in their ads without express permission from the owner of the offspring? That certainly seems like an ethical breach to my mind. Who does that?
Laurierace absolutely had the right to object to the use of her horse’s picture in any advertisement as she did not give permission. Yes, a simple phone call or email TO Laurierace would have been the ethical, considerate and correct thing to do. If she chose to decline, that would be the end of it. Laurierace owes nothing to the stallion owner and to say otherwise speaks volumes about their business practices. That in and of itself would make me hesitate to breed to any of their stallions, based on that alone.
I sent the digital copies (that I purchased) of my filly at Devon to the stallion owner of Amazing so she had my permission to use them in any advertising she chose to do. His owner has been nothing but gracious and kind to me and I wanted her to have them. Big difference. JMV
I have often said that I would love nothing more to sing the praises of my filly’s sire but until he is owned by someone with no ties to Jill Burnell, that is not going to happen. If a time comes when it does, I will personally let them choose from my entire library of photos and do whatever they like with them.
