Jingles for Evil Burrito: 10+ years later, gimpy but good!

Aww! Maybe when he is better Odie will have be Yukon’s growing up buddy!

I thought Yukon was at Kim’s?? Doesn’t she have donkeys?

Hey, I’m not the Official Mini-Donk Enabler for nothin’! I can’t help that I have the most photogenic and darn-right adorable donkey-donk ever… He just needs to stick around for a lot longer .

As an aside, he was really lonely yesterday. I brushed him for a solid 10 minutes (or more) and he loved every second, and when I put him back in the stall, I got the big wet Puss in Boots eyes peering up at me as I closed the stall door. Ack!! Heartbroken! So I am going to go out and read a book at the barn today. Also, still not walking on it :(.

Also, I got Odie’s rads in my email. Here’s the one I think looks the scariest :(.[/QUOTE]

OH MY. How on earth did he do THAT?!

He is absolutely adorable. I think I might need a mini donk!

She does, but they are only friends with each other. Yukon is only friends with Newt. I think he needs to expand his horizons.

Simkie, vet says that’s a weird place to see a fracture. Says he could have been stepped on or could have kicked and got his foot stuck in something. But no trauma to the leg, and all mine are shod all the way around.

Aww poor Yukon.

Update? Hoping Odie is still on the road to recovery.

Well, I’ll copy my FB post over so I don’t have to type too much

“Odie update: talked to the vet today after MVVH had their weekly meeting, and other vets looked at his xrays . I guess “guarded” is how the vet sounded on the phone. Basically it’s a good thing Odie hasn’t been putting any weight on it because the surgeon felt he could have caused little slivers of bone to fracture off. Also, they are more concerned about his tendons contracting since he was casted with his toe down. Another appt next Wed for more rads and mostly likely a recast to put the leg/foot in a more normal position. Moving the foot has me frightened at this point, but Odie is still acting like his normal self, so we’re going to keep moving forward to give him the best chance possible. Staying positive for my little buddy!!”

So that was Wednesday, I spoke to the vet after their Wed case discussion meeting. He did not sound as positive as he did before, I think because of the other vets comments (there is a surgeon, he’s is pushing for external fixation, and two other vets (maybe more), so a total of at least three other eyes were looking at Odie’s rads on a big projector screen).

Otherwise absolutely no change in Odie’s condition or behavior. Still hopping around quite nimble-y, and neither leg is warm or swollen. He was much better about me feeling for warm spots on the cast last night than he has been. I’m working nights now, so I went out to see him after DH went to bed last night and spent an hour hanging out with him. It was adorable when I first got there, and walked down the aisle and turned on his stall light. He was laying down, but hopped right up and was trying to stifle a yawn so he could squeak at me! D’awww!!

Here’s last night’s pictures :). He says hey! and “moar brush pls, kthx.

Awww

Here’s hoping next week’s films turn out well…

Hoping the next week recast/xrays/assessment will be positive. Heal, bones, heal!!!

Go, Odie, go!! He’s such a tough little bugger, he’ll be just fine. He’s got all of COTH behind him, after all!

Continued Jingles from SW WA! Heal, leg, heal–no more scary films, “guarded” reports and giving your mom heart attacks. Jenners, thank you for the pictures!

More jingles from Wisconsin! hugs to you and your hubby.

Thanks everyone  Yep, DH is the best, I got pretty lucky. This was the first time I’ve ever had to “ok” a financial decision with him and he came through like a champ. Of course he said it was because he would spend that much on my neurotic dog and he hates the dog… He likes Odie.

AWWWWW! Cute photo of those two! Best wishes for Odie’s recovery.

HE’S SO CUTE AND FLUFFY I’M GONNA DIE!!!

Seriously, big jingles for Odie. My TB fractured his LF short pastern in 2006; not as ugly as Odie’s but not pretty either. He was on stall rest for three months and follow-up x-rays showed not only did it heal, but there were no arthritic changes where the fracture had gone into the joint with the long pastern. He eventually returned to eventing and hasn’t had a problem with it since.

Best of luck to little Odie, and you for getting to be his nurse while he heals! And keep fluffy donkey pics coming, he’s kyoot!

Odie update!

OK, two week appointment today. Vet had initially talked about recasting, which I had my doubts about, and seemed negative on the phone. But today, seemed much more positive. We decided that the “best” course of action right now, all things considered, was to keep in him the current cast since we know that a. he’s not weight-bearing, which is good for the bone, b. the cast isn’t or doesn’t appear to be bothering him, and c. the chances of a new cast causing problems are greater than the current cast. While there is still concern about his tendons, the vet understands that we are more willing to rehab that.

Vet was pleasantly surprised at Odie’ behavior and mobility, cruising around the barn checking things out. Vet was also happy that Odie has been laying down and resting the other leg, and was happy with how cool and tight both legs were. All very good. And the bones appear to be doing exactly what they should be doing at this point… which means they don’t appear to be doing much, but have gone past the looks-worse stage where bone is being reabsorbed and into the ‘knitting’ stage.

A quick comparison of rads:
This was the initial  bad xray.
This is today’s.

And here is Odie chilling and waiting for his xrays. He says he has this shit down, whatevs.

And a little video :). I had to rebed his stall real quick and that little bugger would sneak out given a little luck and half a chance, so he actually had to be gasp tied. So there is some Odie squeaking, and DH and the vet discussing different times they’ve gotten stuck in the mud .

Hey, I wanted to hear the rest of the story! The neighbor kid came running over on his dad’s…what?!

Hurray for Odie and his continued improvement! He is sure a cute little guy, as you obviously know.

Awwww I am glad things are going well. He is a cute little bugger! Seems offended you had to tie him lol

I believe it was a $50k orchard tractor of some kind, which also got stuck, and they wound up having to have a big tow truck come yank the truck, the tractor, the Blazer, and the orchard tractor out of the field  And the neighbor kid caught hell from his dad for using the tractor   !!!

And Nootka, he HATES being tied. HATES it. I can do almost anything with him untied, I can pick all four feet (well, could ) but once he’s tied he doesn’t want to cooperate with anything or anyone.

So glad to hear Odie’s doing well - he’s so stinkin’ cute its ridiculous.
