Jingles for Evil Burrito: post 774 COTH jingles worked again!

Welll… vet appointment was eek, and I don’t mean the bill (which will also be eek ). Xrays were pretty depressing, as bad as I expected but a few nasty little surprises. Remember waaaay back when, his former vet thought the navicular might be trying to get in on the fun action? Yeah it did. Also p3 is not looking good either, plus all the ringbone. Sigh. Anyway, he is going to get an evil-burrito-sized dose of equioxx daily and she is going to discuss with the new farrier about fashioning some sort of glued something on the outside of his hoof because it’s starting to grow narrower, and we want the base wider.

BUT!

He was as always an excellent patient and got lots of treats, and this is by no means a death knell. Once I get the rads I’ll share  For now, his adorableness waiting patiently to see if we need another angle. He also challenged the vet tech that he can indeed balance on just two legs, on the same side no less, thanks very much.

AND the xrays. iPhone pics off the machine to my FB messenger, ftw

First the outside, where you can see the foot is narrower than its buddy Mr Left Hind.

And the rads

Hey, Evil Burrito…no limping allowed. You are our mascot. Jingles!

@TheJenners, could you explain what we’re seeing on the X-rays? I know there is something bad there but I don’t know what I’m looking at.

Well pretty significant ringbone, but the joints are trying to fuse which is good. Significant arthritis around the navicular bone, which is danged uncomfortable. And his coffin has degraded a bit on the lower medial side.

For comparison the original bad rad, with fracture, but you can see the cleaner lines without all the bad stuff.

Wow that navicular bone :anguished:
I’d be curious to see the other hoof, if it’s related to the injury or not.
That fracture healed up nicely.
He’s got his size going for him, even though that navicular bone and the ringbone looks nasty he is so small that it hopefully won’t effect him too badly.

It is not related, he broke just the one.

I’m kind of fascinated by navicular bones and how they respond to injury and genetics. One of my horses has a navicular bone that looks horrible on rads. He was diagnosed navicular when he was 8, he’s now 21 and overall really quite sound; he gets equioxx now but it’s actually for his hocks.

A friends horse was diagnosed navicular and actually didn’t have too bad of X-rays. But that horse has needed more treatment for that than any other horse I have ever met with navicular. Probably the worst case I’d ever seen, yet on his X-rays the navicular probably wouldn’t even raise much of a red flag on a PPE if they didn’t see the horse walk first.

Just a little bump/update on the evil one

He has been more than a little gimpy for a couple weeks so I scheduled the vet to come out for injections. Odie tolerated getting xrays fine yet again, though she got a new whatsitscalled and it didn’t fit under him so we had to improvise

Cooperation ended after that even with something (I forgot) and then two doses of dorm on board, so I opted to continue by having him go under general, which is one of my least favorite things but it got the job done. It was also easier to take pictures this way…

It was also one of Argie’s least favorite things. I’ll try to post the video too… he was big mad.

Odie is up, recovery had a couple slipsies but he didn’t so much as lose an adorable hair off his adorable self because honestly dealing with a 3/4 drunk mini donkey who got stuck on tilt, sat down and started to go over backwards was as easy as grabbing his neck and setting him back upright again  And even in that level of grogginess he had his glare game on at the vet. So he and Argie are in a stall together for a couple days, here’s hoping for big improvement - he actually already seems better, tbh.

He’s a character. And I like your that your vet gets creative. What is that yoga pose - sideways lying burro? lol

You made me do a double-take   my vet actually IS a yogi! She is a great vet, I don’t ever want to lose her.

The title scared me until I got to the second half that said update.

Jingles that his limp is nothing major and he recovers from the evil vet torture quickly!

Poor little burrito! I hope this injection keeps him more comfy.

Sorry, since it was only 10 mos after the other update I didn’t change the title.

So far he is still gimping around but I think it’s the bandage. Remember back when he had his cast(s)? He wouldn’t even put it down and try to walk on it. So we are halfway thru stall rest and then I’ll probably take the bandage off when they go out to truly assess. Fingers crossed!

Also, side note, stall rest ugh. They trashed the stall but mostly it’s the mare drama  Normally the pony is in this stall at night, leaving the senior gelding and the 2 yo mare and the donks to share the two open stalls and the paddock and all is basically harmonic. The pony mare is a pony mare, she loves to beat on the baby who towers over her, and the senior loves to beat on the pony, so it was drama all night along even though they go out in the same big paddock during the day :woman_facepalming:

Evil Burritos should never have to do things they do not want to…not with all that cuteness.
Jingles that his limp is gone after the bandage is removed.

Laughing at the pony mare drama.

For a little lighthearted donkey drama, check out the new French film “My Lover, My Donkey and I.” The trailers are pretty funny.

I love the Times’ synopsis:
“In this idiosyncratic comedy from France, a besotted schoolteacher crashes her married lover’s hiking trip and befriends a deeply opinionated donkey.”

Aren’t they all “deeply opinionated”?

Jingles for the Evil Burrito!

I actually want to read the Robert Louis Stevenson book that inspired it.
