Just for fun: Stories behind user names? (If horse related)

I had a friend ask me why my username on some places is Rain Weasley. When I signed up on COTH (finally after lurking for a while) and couldn’t think of a name, I’m not the best at coming up with names. My gelding’s name is Rain (I didn’t name him), he’s a redhead and can be brave if he needs to be but is usually a bit of a wuss, and just reminds me of a certain ginger from Harry Potter. I joked to someone that he should be called Rain Weasley (like Ron Weasley). Stupid joke, I know, but it popped into my head and so I put it down since I couldn’t think of anything else, so now I’m stuck with it  Still haven’t decided if we are going to use it for showing or not.

It made me wonder if anyone here has any funny/sweet/meaningful to them stories about how they picked their names on here. I’ve seen some interesting ones. Might be a dumb post, but if anyone wants to share, I’d love to hear!

When I bought my farmette I was thinking of calling it Bought The Farm
Clever, yes? :o

Then a friend suggested calling it 2 Dogs - from a corny old joke DH used to tell that made him LOL.
And thus it was named & so became my handle on this BB

FYI:
Joke is about an Indian (Native, not East) child who asks his grandfather, the Chief:
“Grandfather, I know you pick all the names for the newborn babies. How do you do that?”
Says Grandpa:
“When a baby is born, I take the newborn out at daybreak, and the first thing I see gives me the name.
When your brother was born, I took him out and a deer leapt from the bushes - so he is named Leaping Deer.
When your sister was born, I took her out and it began to rain - so her name is Rain Falling.
Why do you ask, Two Dogs F***king?”

Cracked him up, Every.Single.Time.

Miss Ariel was my first horse. She taught me so much about patience and horses and life <3.

I started riding and showing cutting horses in 1999.

When I joined COTH, Skip was my riding horse. I know - unimaginative COTH name. I rode him until he was 16, and then he became my daughter’s horse. She rode him until he was 23, and he told us he was ready to retire. He’s 30 now and does therapeutic riding for kids - mostly walking, a little trotting.

Re-riding, only in my case it was more like Re-something.

When I discovered COTH I was working as barn staff to a barn local to me. There was a cute bay trakehner in the second stall down that was such a character, named Beowulf. He was one of my favorite faces to see; I loved opening the barn because he would fling his head out and nicker to let us know he was ready for breakfast! Caretakers/barn workers get attached to the animals they take care of too! I still miss him.

Maxwell was my horse when I joined the forums (in 2004!). Don’t remember exactly why it’s To The MAX, probably just trying to find something clever in my high school brain.

Tabula Rashah was the first horse I bred (and she got her name from the episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Tabula Rasa which is Latin for blank slate)

I made mine back in high school. My first horse’s name was Rock and I was into rock/punk music hence “rockon”. I was in my teens so xox sounded good… because I didn’t want to be so hard with the rock part?

Luseride because my horse is named Luse and I ride him. Didn’t think at the time that it sounded bad but when I went to get a personalized tag for my Jeep I asked the lady if that sounded skanky and she said “Well…” My tag says Lusive which is the unshortened version of his name.

Mine is pretty boring, it’s just my horse’s names combined, Skip and Apollo. Not very creative but easy for me to remember

Famous horse in Scandinavian mythology, look it up if you already don’t know him. Just seems like such a cool and relatable symbol.

Funny how we read things. When I see yours my brain goes ‘rockonsox’ as in groovy socks!

Actually it was my xbox live name first! But the origin behind it was when I got my OTTB mare. I wasn’t super creative.

Part of my horses registered name and her breed make up my user name when I joined here . Boring , boring, boring but it is what it is.

That’s the way I always read it, as well! Only I assumed that was the name of a horse…

Mine is because I have two stereotypical chestnut mares (and one brown one), and I couldn’t believe the name wasn’t taken. I had a previous user name that I can’t recall from when I took a year or two away from COTH. May have had something to do with Cowboy, my cat’s name. I used his name a lot until he passed away at age 19.

I’ll take it  When I give out my email (yes, I still use it for non professional things because the reactions I get make me laugh - and because I’m not inventive enough to make another one I like) when people repeat it they’ll say “SOS like save our soul” and I go no no “xox like hugs and kisses”. I also was obsessed with Gossip Girl books back then so that probably is what led to the xox part as well. I’ve actually met quite a few horsey people by explaining that it was about my horse.

Mine is a play on the name of my Friesian/Appaloosa cross, who sadly had to be put down 2 years ago at age 16 (way too soon). His registered/show name was Neon Knight, born in 2001. So I became Lady Neon and added his birth year to the end. I’ve had this handle since the days of AOL Instant Messenger and decided to use it when I joined here.:lol:
