No fancy or funny story… The first horse I bought as a 37 y/o adult was a Chocolate Varnish Appaloosa mare that I named Star Au’ Chocolat.

I am short, so I like smaller horses, my TB is actually 15 hand but he is compact so he looks smaller.
I used to board at a jumper barn and one day I was jumping him ( he is a very stylish jumper)
and a visiting trainer started say,“look at that pony jump”
so my friends at the barn started chanting “jump pony jump”
It stuck and everyone started calling my horse jump pony!

In the year 2000 I bought my humble, long neglected farmette. The barn had a cedar shingle roof, totally covered with pine needles and completely rotted through in parts. The southwest corner walls of the barn were sinking into the ground due to the water damage. A kind horseman, a construction guy, whom I did not know real well yet (he was partners with a very good horse buddy of mine), offered to jack it up and put in pressure-treated. He did so. When finished, he walked up to me, and said, May I speak frankly to you? (Me: ummm, yes??) He then said, looking at my barn, “This is a hell of a project for a broad”. I took no offense, he was that kind of guy…rough but kind…and thus my farmette is named Helluva Project Farmette. Still humble, lots of repairs…but it’s mine.

I hunt (as in foxhunt, but here in NZ we don’t have foxes so we hunt hares) and my partner is a huntsman. When in Ireland he hunted foxes in the winter, with foxhounds, and otters in the summer, with otterhounds. I love watching otterhounds work in rivers and streams, so figured it was as good a “name” as anything. =)

My last several horses, including my current mare (of 22 years), have been Appaloosas. I also have a weakness for the longears (donkeys and mules). So my friends came up with Donkaloosa, Donk for short. Works for me!

The owner of Red Raider Camp where I first took lessons as a kid in the 70’s used to call me ‘Brown Eyes’. Fox Smith and Red Raider in Novelty, Ohio was a huge part of my childhood and shaped me as a horse person. Are there any other Red Raider graduates out there??

When I first joined, I was riding a mare named Good Fortune. Shortened that up a bit to good42n.
My horse-of-a-lifetime was a registered Hungarian Horse who had spiraled down through a few owners until he ended up with an old-time Iowa horse trader who bought/sold little QH trailhorses. He had no idea what to do with this ‘big English monster’ in his field. I had been putting miles on this trader’s sale horses, just to get some riding time, and he said all of “my” horses sold well for him. So, as a thank you, the Hungarian came to be mine for a song. He was a big eater- when he got grain it was like the Hungry Hungry Hippo game. Hence, Hungarian Hippo. Still miss that horse, we had 19yrs together.

I used to restart/tune up horses my BO had for sale. A lack of forward thinking was the common issue. My training mantra was 'let’s go, just go!" I wanted the horse to just jump, climb, wade, weave thru, whatever, however and whenever I asked. “Allons y” had a better sound, especially when spoken with conviction, so I used that.

I’ve owned many horses in my lifetime and usually in threes. Awhile back I had 3, sold 2, and ended up keeping the last one - a gray pony. I’m not pony sized, nor pony aged, so it always cracked me up that THAT was the one that stayed, the gray pony. I lost my old username a long time ago with a forum switch, so when I rejoined that’s what I used.

When I joined I owned a little chestnut gaited mare that I was able to register as a Tigre horse. I did this so that, if and when, I ever sold her she would have some kind of papers and wouldn’t be just a “gaited” mare. Best darn all around horse I ever owned. We had a blast together - trails, sidesaddle (rode her in the Obama Presidental Parade, several Chicago Thanksgving Day Parades and the Milwaukee Circus Parade). She was a treasure. When I decided to focus on dressage full time (not her cup of tea) I sold her to a freind of a friend (a vet) - she now lives a life of leisure and goes on the occassional trail ride.

It’s my mom’s big grey Andalusian mare’s nickname. Real name Omega. She got the nickname because of her size, color and general boss mare personality!

Needed a catchy name for my horse blog/Instagram page when I started chronicling our adventures… My mare is bay and named after the “Bond girl” Vesper Lynd from Casino Royale.

Mine is easy, it’s the JC name of my current ‘Favorite Horse (â„¢)’. Now, I’m a sucker, so I’ve had tons of ‘Favorite Horses (â„¢)’ over the years, but I admit that this one is special to me.
He’s retired now, and his predecessor isn’t exactly making me want to name any online accounts after him :lol:

I was using my sister’s driving pony’s name as a password a lot at the time but that was taken when I signed up. He is a little bay pony so I went with that I hopes that I wouldn’t forget it.

Put an I in front of my user name… and say it out loud: I’mscapen ( pen as in pen) the horse world is always where I have found myself to be most at ease, most my self , most who I am. Therefore it is where I escape… not really how the name started but somewhere inside myself as a teanager I must have known.
