Just for fun - what is the weirdest food your cat has eaten?

Last night we were eating our dinner of gluten free spaghetti noodles (made of lentil and brown rice) in a white wine garlic sauce w/ chicken meatballs while watching the mandalorian.

I got distracted watching the show and old man cat did a very uncharacteristic snatch &run with the food on my plate. He ignored the chicken meatball and went for…… the noodles. Really? The lentil noodles are what ignited an insatiable hunger in him? I thought it was a fluke until he did it a 2nd time!!

Was it the garlic? The parsley? Who knows. He’s not normally into human food (aside from tuna or a small piece of ham) so it’s just an uncharacteristic move.

Aside from his new noodle obsession- he also loves eating grass (to the point of guaranteed vomiting) and chomping on plastic bags.

We all know cats are little aliens in adorable fur suits, so I’m sure noodles are far from the weirdest thing a cat has developed a craving for- tell me about your weird cats’ cravings!

Cats do like noodles. Maybe they remind them of snakes?

I had a wonderful Siamese cat years ago who loved microwaveable popcorn. You couldn’t open a bag without him running, his catflap jingling from side to side. We used to have a ritual where we’d sit on the couch and watch movies and snack together. He was probably where the cat obsession started and he left big paws to fill.

My cat Duncan is a food whore. He loves to try anything that I am eating. He also thinks that if he keeps sticking his paw in my plate that I will give him something. Yes, I will - a bop on the head with my fork, buster. His favorites - bacon (of course, duh) and popcorn - the more butter and salt the better.

However, that is not the wierdest cat + food thing. I had a cat once that ate quite a bit of my Indian curried cauliflower and it was very very spicy. She’d take a bite, look startled, then smack her lips repeatedly like it was awful then come back for another bite. Over and over. Dork.

Corn on the cob. Dad gave me some from his garden and had shucked them, so I got home and set the bag down to put my things away.

When I got back Sammy had gotten one out of the bag and eaten the top 2 1/2 inches all the way around one end. He loved corn.

And tortilla chips. And raspberry ice cream. And peas. :joy:

He liked quite a few human foods.

Thomas got into coffee one night. I was sitting in the living room and suddenly smelled coffee. I looked and there was a sample bag laying out half empty and Thomas off licking his paws.

I sat up half the night watching him to make sure he was ok, while he slept carefree.

He’d get into a lot if it was left out. Bread, coffee cake, ate a quarter pound of cheddar jack cheese once.

He pried the lid off a just opened can of bonita flakes and gave everyone a tuna party. I got home to full cats, an empty container and a lid that had cat teeth marks on one side.

I sure do miss that cat. He was one in a million.

That’s why cats eat grass. It’s a natural emetic. Helps with hairballs.

My cat Smokey was very picky, but there were some odd things she liked. She’s stolen my borscht soup before. She also loved peas and green beans, preferably cooked. The oddest food she’s stolen though was tomatoes - that was just unusual.

Ice cream was her absolute favorite food. She did like sour cream and yogurt, but she was very picky about what brand she would eat.

He chows on it like it’s his job. You know those little 3x3 cat grass pots sold at petsmart? He eats the whole thing in 5 minutes and pukes up nothing but grass and spit.

Sometimes I’ll give him a blade or 2 of crab grass but I can’t allow him grass access. I’d like to give him more since he loves it so much, but one vet told me that grass can get stuck in their soft palate and requires removal. One time he ate part of my aloe plant and had viscous green drool for a day.

He’s like a foundered pony who needs a grazing muzzle or dry lot. Portion control is not his strong point.

Chocolate. Specifically nestles crunch. I would get home from work, get dinner, take my shower and pick up my nestles crunch bar, my dessert, while I settled on the carpet with my velour bathrobe, and that cat would be waiting with her pupils completely dilated, whiskers pointing down, drool purring, to settle on a corner of the bathrobe and receive her ration of crumbs. I’d say a little more than a pinky fingernail worth. Once she got them and drooled them all over my hem, she was content.

When I was a kid, we had a cat that loved angel food cake.
When you brought one home from the store you had to hide it in the cupboard. If you left it on the counter, she’d jump up there, tear the bag open and go to town.
She liked corn on the cob too.

I had a female cat that loved Cool Ranch Doritos.

My dad’s cat, Minnie, loves Cheez It crackers. They’re so cute—it’s a “one for you, one for me” cracker-sharing ritual every afternoon.

My late cat, Camille, loved white cheddar popcorn.

We had a cat that loved the hot peppers off pizza, until one day my daughter fed him A LOT of them. I guess he had a few uncomfortable moments in the litter box after that feed and never touched them again.

I had another cat that loved canned tomatoes. He would beg every time I opened a can.

I have one of those :smirk_cat:
& indulged him until the day he bit off a piece that lodged in his mouth :scream_cat:
I basically had to do mouth-to-mouth (okay: hand-to-mouth) to stop him choking
Since that day, no more bagchomping permitted.

Current cats beg for Boca burgers, but then are insulted if I give them a piece :unamused:

I did have a cat who loved peas.
I’d be sitting at the table & a paw would come snaking up in an attempt to snatch a pea off my plate :paw_prints:

DH had a cat at work the loved his jalapeno cheddar snack crackers he took with lunch. Not any other flavor, just jalapeno :woman_shrugging:

My parents also used to have a cat who would take just one bite out of every tomato within reach when they brught them in from the garden. Yes, cat got evicted during tomato season.

Oh lord! These all had me laughing my head off. And they bring back a lot of memories. I had a cat too that adored angel cake. She ate quite a chunk once and would have eaten the whole thing had I not caught her - the unrepentant little princess. The cat that loved Mexican food (we think she had lived with the migrant workers), especially tortilla chips. She also loved these cookies we would get and if given a chance would snag them out of our hands and then run off growling around it in her mouth and slashing at us if we tried to get it away from her. Or the cat that LOVED butter so much he ate a whole stick. My his coat was shiny after that. LOL

The best was the cat that loved Baskin Robbins French Vanilla ice cream so much he helped himself to a whole gallon container of it right out of the freezer. He must have had to work quite hard to get the freezer open, but open it he did and then apparently wrestled with the container but could not get that open. My mom came home and was greeted by him running up to her and clearly wanting him to follow her. She followed him to the kitchen where he eagerly pointed out the container - covered with bite and claw marks - and wanted her to open it. She was pretty mad but had to laugh - he was so happy and obviously had worked very hard to get his prize. The ice cream was soup. Before she tossed it she gave him a bowlful - he was thrilled.

They are all so silly. Don’t tell me they don’t have likes or dislikes or no personalities. :smile_cat: :smile_cat:

I made tacos one night and the fixings, including the cheese, were on the counter.

I was eating and watching a movie and missed him on the counter. He walked into the living room, sat down and started cleaning himself.

I looked over and the cheese had been devoured. I don’t know how he did it, it was pretty darn spicy. :joy:
